[Morexis’ POV: ]

The situation was getting tougher as time passed on the island. The demonic humans that we had been fighting stopped hiding and soon, they were actually fighting us on their own.

They were not as careful as they had been a moment before either. They were showing their true natures as the demon contractors and it was getting difficult dealing with them even though we all were fighting them together on various fronts.

{ "The one on my end seemed to be a <Viscount> contractor. He was strong!" }

There were a number of students that were fighting against these bastards at the moment, and even though the teachers were operating the defence system and supporting them, these students were practically risking their lives to save the other students.

They were strong and they were also difficult to deal with by ourselves but still, we were taking them down by working together.

{ "Area 3: clear. Unit 3, move on to Area 4." }

{ "Yes!" }

They were fighting and I was too, however, since my main strength wasn’t just the ability to control the energies, I was making use of the knowledge and commanding abilities I’ve accumulated throughout my time in this academy.

’Having the two of them would have been better, but since they are stuck with the headmaster’s trial, we had no choice but to stall for time until they finish their work there.’

Until then, we were on our own. And, even though I wanted to say everything was going as well as it did when this entire fight started... the truth of the matter was something else.

-Swish!

"Muhahahahahaha!"

These demon contractors were insane bastards that were after all the children on the island now.

They weren’t after us before and from what I understand, they were creating some kind of summoning circle in here so that they could summon a demon but after Miss Lux figured their existence out and started snipping them, the situation got twisted for them.

Their numbers started declining first and then they started attacking the students as a sacrifice to the demons that they served so that they could use the possession skills of their kind and descend on this island.

’Now... the situation was getting worse.’

The students had evacuated to the safe areas that would be protected by the system so they were safe for most parts but if they managed to make a high ranking demon descent upon this island, even the system might not be enough to stop them.

’The system was an extension of the headmaster himself and he wanted the students to deal with this situation, they were certain to us already.’

He might be looking over us right now to see what things we would do in real threatening situations like these, so this was going to continue as it was going on right now.

We have no choice but to continue with what we are doing and defend the students, defeat as many of the bastards as we can until the two of them or someone else arrived here, or as long as the headmaster decides that we have failed this test of his.

’But until then, we were on our own.’

I was on higher ground, on a mountain to be precise and I was alone here, giving instructions to the rest of the groups that were going around the island dealing with this situation.

Cathy was with me until a while ago but since she was one of the best light element users as well as someone that could help out the fighting group more than I did, we had to separate and she had to go on with the other students.

"Kekekeke!"

Some of the them had managed to find my position but from the looks of it, they yet did not know the fact that I was the one that was giving the others any orders so, the one that had come for me were only two weakest demonic humans.

But still, it was not easy dealing with them.

They were strong opponents and there was little that I could do to stop them with the limited Mana and skills I possessed.

-Ooooooooooooooong!

Though, thankfully, I possessed something that they couldn’t understand...

-Swish! Swish! Swish!

-Thud. Thud.

If it had been a few months ago, I wouldn’t have been able to deal with these creatures on my own, but the day the two of them took us to that dangerous sea area, in that storm, in that shrine of the past... things started changing for me.

{ "Morex. We see three more coming in our direction." }

{ "Evaluate them. Don’t fight directly." }

{ "Of course." }

Thanks to the control technique that Mister Lucifer taught me, I was able to deal with the problem of controlling power that existed inside me and the power that I had always sensed existing all around me outside.

There were a number of things that I learned though that control method, and most of the things I used in that shrine’s trial.

{ "Hmmm? What the? What are they doing?" }

{ "Hmm? Cathy? What’s happening." }

The trial that I faced was tough but I was able to pass through that trial and thanks to that, I received a power that further strengthened the skill to know about strange things of this world that I always possessed.

’It was a skill that occasionally flooded my mind with useless information that I had no idea about. Most of those things are completely unknown to me...’

I used to search for what those things were in the books, and I used to ask myself questions.

{ "These people... they are doing something weird." }

{ "What do you mean my weird? Tell me in detail. Are they using weapons? Are they drawing something on the trees around you? Or on the ground?" }

There were times when I asked questions to the dimensional merchants that charged a tremendous price for the information that turned out to be actually useless...

And money from the system was not something even someone like me could get in large amounts.

It was a rare resource for all of us... but after receiving the artifact that gave me information about anything that I alredy knew about, those problems were solved completely.

’And since then, I had been accumulating more and more strengths.’

I was pretty confident in my abilities now. I knew for a fact dealing with a bunch of demonic humans was not impossible for me anymore. Not with the good stats that I possessed.

’They were strong and they had demonic power, but their power was useless against me more than it was useless against someone like Cathy that possessed extreme light attribute powers.’

The demonic energy was the single greatest strength of the demonic humans as it was too fatal for those who did not possess that power.

However, against someone that can control the energy in its pure sense, this power wasn’t that useful...

{ "Oh no..." }

{ "Morex...! They’re-..." }

I was pretty confident I could deal with the ones that were at least contracted with the Viscount ranked demon in this particular case, so I was going around on my own.

Cathy was not doing the same so she was with a bunch of students right now, so I wasn’t that worried about her or the rest of their group.

They had strong enough people that could deal with the situation on their own with

her help... or at least, that was what I had thought.

{ "Cathy? Cathy! Say something!

Anyone! What’s happening there?!" }

Their connection was cut off and... I had a very bad feeling about this.

"Shit."

For some reason, my mind got clouded and the only thought I had in my mind was the face of the person I had been talking to just a moment ago.

’She’s in danger...’

There was no doubt about it.

She was not someone that would shout like that.

She was strong and against the demonic beings, she always had an upper hand.

There was no one on this island powerful enough to surprise her like that... not until they were the leaders of this bunch.

And if they were the leaders... the only reasons they might have been there would have something to do with her.

’And that isn’t anything good.’

She was a strong person so I wasn’t worried something might happen to her since I know for a fact she can at least hold her own against those bastards but, it did not mean she can defeat someone that was contracted with a demon marquis.

It wasn’t even about being strong at that point since the sheer difference in their level would be significantly greater than any creature present on this island’s tests.

’They would even be difficult opponents for the Two of them!’

It wasn’t good...

She was in danger.

’I don’t know why I care about that, but... my heart...’

It was running wild for some reason.

And even if I had some idea what that reason might be... this was no time to think about things like them!

I used all the energy I had to run, to jump, to glide through the forest under the mountain I was on... I ran.

And ran. And ran even though my feet started bleeding. But, I did not stop. I could not stop...

She was in danger. There was something going on... so I had to go there.

So I came here.

And when I did... she had covered herself in a strong looking barrier, that was going to break soon, and...

"Don’t touch her!"

She was bleeding.

"You fucking demon!"

She was wounded, there was a demonic human attacking her that couldn’t be considered a human anymore...

"Don’t touch her!"

This was bad.

I had to do something.

Anything. I had to do anything and push that thing away from her...

He was hurting her. He had hurt her already...

The rest of the students that should have been with her weren’t here anymore but that did not matter.

She was hurt.

And that bastard...

That demon was the one that had hurt her...!
