Chapter 379: 379 The night before the battle

[Lucy’s POV: ]

"He was stunned."

"No he was astonished."

"He was shocked."

"He was flabbergasted!"

"How many times do I have to say it! He was surprised!

Not shocked! Why would he be shocked?! Why?!"

"Well, I don’t wanna play synonym games anymore so let’s just say he was surprised. You win."

There was no point in arguing with someone that knows more about the game and rules of a pointless argument anyway.

Surprised, shocked. It didn’t matter anyway.

"What do you mean I win! I was right from the beginning you fucking dumbass!!!"

She was smirking just like she does when she wins against me in anything.

"Now gimme my wish-."

"Not a chance."

I knew she was gonna say that. There was no way she wouldn’t ask for a wish after pointlessly wasting so much energy over such a trivial matter.

"What the hell do you mean?! I won! You said it yourself!"

"I never said I’d give you a wish if you win in this ’argument’ that you brought up yourself."

I mean, what was she expecting? She knows she’s not gonna get a wish anyway. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

What was the point of wasting so much energy before so many important people anyway?

"Gimme my wish! Gimme gimme gimme!!"

"Please ignore her, everyone. She’s just being dramatic."

She was being cute since she knew in a few hours, a battle that I’ll start that might or might not decide whether I will have that ultimate skill or not.

’She knew obtaining this epic was important to me since she knew the value of something that might possibly be connected with the nemesis of my master.’

She also knew fighting against the emperor was not going to be an easy thing. My life was on the line here.

"Whaaaaa! Cheater! You cheater!"

This was the night right before the day of the beginning of the battle.

A very important time for both sides to organise and prepare themselves physically and mentally for what was to come in the short time they had in them.

’Our side knew very well what we were going to face while going against the emperor, so every single person present in this tent with us was risking their lives for the sake of the ’change’ envisioned by countless other people of this empire.’

The Emperor was not a bad ruler since he knew what he was doing.

The way he had established order in his lands was so impeccable that even she was stunned the first time she learned about all that he had done in his long ruling history.

’He was a great ’emperor’ and that fact might never change throughout the whole course of this world’s existence.’

But, the fact remained the same— he had been the emperor for too long.

The empire might have a great stability and function from the eyes of the normal people within and outside the empire, but those who were above these normal people, those who knew the actual conditions of this Stagnant empire knew very well just how discordant this country actually was.

"So, where were we, your highness." Looking at the still ’stunned’ expression of Prince Rex that still couldn’t focus on the things going on before him with a serious look, I urged him to continue with the important task before us.

’He was lost in his own thoughts wondering about Our force present outside of these tents. While the rest of the people present here couldn’t take their eyes away from us— especially the pretty girl acting as a little child.’

She had executed a bunch of emperor’s spies without flinching just a moment ago, so this behaviour of hers was shocking to all of them.

"Haaaa. Right, we were talking about the initiation of the battle."

Rex was familiar with the two of us now but even though seeing our real appearances was the first time for the rest of his people, they just couldn’t believe how someone so... someone so dangerous could also have that harmless looking side to them.

This sister of mine knew how to Surprise someone very well.

"Right. The start of the battle... we will be taking a exhibitionist approach."

"Hen?"

"Hun?"

"...what?"

"Ah~! I like that! Let’s all go naked and throw the enemies off~! Hehe."

"What the f..."

"Exhibition... what?"

"Is he high or something?"

"Ahem. Everyone, don’t get the wrong idea. I believe mister Lucifer here meant we should show the enemies what we have from the get go."

Rex understood what I was trying to say... he sure knew us well now.

But, seeing the others’ expressions and those stupefied faces just showed how much seriously they were taking this entire thing.

"Yes, we will show them the full might of our forces."

Dormancy was plaguing the empire at such a fundamental level that even though who knew it, could see it, and understood it couldn’t help but just... live in it.

That was all that they knew, that was all that they could do until now.

There was nothing that they could do to being ’change’ into this dormant empire.

Things were going smoothly, there were no problems, there was nothing that could cause great disturbances and the emperor was someone capable enough to deal with all the internal and external problems all by himself.

He had created an elaborate system that worked with him as the centre.

Anything that could threaten the stability of the empire or his position in any way was dealt with even before it could bloom to a certain extent.

He had a kind of grasp on this entire system that made it impossible for the dream chasers of the ’change’ to even express their desire for that change.

’There was nothing that could rival the emperor in this world, and those who could did not want to because of their own reasons.’

They were bound by their own limitations and attachments to their loved ones who lived in this perfectly fine system.

’There was a need for change, but only a few of them out there knew of this need, This necessity.’

No one had ever voiced their opinions against the emperor since they knew what would happen to them.

They knew there was no way to even cause any disturbance in this dead calm pool of blood. Their sacrifices would mean nothing to this society and the world. Whatever they do to cause any change would be buried in the pool of blood and carcasses that the tyrants known as the Emperor was standing on.

’They were in the darkness. For years and years... they had been living in a dark swamp getting dragged by the system that they so badly despised.’

And then they saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

Their own crown prince, the personification of that light of change.

"Right before the horns of the battle are blown, we will show them the power that this army possesses with the goal to bring despair upon the enemy."

The crown prince was not the one leading this operation, they knew that for a while now.

They knew he was getting help from us, the thieves that had earned the hate of almost all powers throughout the empire.

They knew we were the ones that will do most of the things and reap most of the rewards as well, and they knew we might also get the empire if the emperor did fall in this battle.

’They knew we were doing all this, but still, the one that made it all possible, the one that brought this light to them was their crown prince.’

They knew we did not need any of them even though they were strong people.

We had all the forces that we needed to win this battle— they had already seen the armies standing outside so they knew the kind of power the two of us possessed was far superior to what the emperor, or the entire side of the empire possessed.

’They knew the hate their crown prince had for the emperor. They knew their story, and they could see his wish for change, the same wish that they shared.’

That was the main reason they joined him at first.

He was a charismatic figure that was doing something that no one else had been able to do until now.

He was one of a kind that this empire had longed for several centuries now.

He was the person with sufficient knowledge and authority to go against the emperor and thanks to us thieves that had appeared out of nowhere, he had the power that he needed to initiate this change.

’From their point of view, he was the one that started what no one else in history had been able to.’

Even though the price of this might be the empire in its entirety, the emperor would not be here.

The change that they had longed for would arrive, be it for the better or for the worse.

They were prepared for a rebellion, a revolution, a disaster or a complete collapse of this empire.

They had prepared their minds and hearts to give their lives this time. There was light at the end of this tunnel so their sacrifices on this battlefield will not be in vain.

The prince to pay will be great... however, if it could bring down the eternal dormancy plaguing this innocent land, they were ready to even kill their own brethren.

"We will crush their wills to fight, and bring down the casualties as much as possible."

They knew we had not harmed many people during our thefts.

They knew there was a reason their crown prince was trusting us.

And, they had already seen what we can do so even though I was given the complete control of their forces, even though this sister of mine was acting like a child right now, and even though they had their concerns... they trusted us a little as well.

This battle was not going to be possible without us and this force so, they knew it was much better for a force like us to lead this nation than be a force standing against it.
