Twisted Dreams-Chapter 258 - 225: Jessica
Jessica parked the car to the side and got out.
The beggar looked at Jessica in surprise, taking out a hundred US dollars:
"Did you give me the wrong amount?
Actually, I just need some change."
Jessica waved her hands repeatedly:
"No, no, no, that's not what I mean.
You misunderstood, I'm not short of this hundred dollars."
The beggar's eyes became even more puzzled.
Jessica frowned:
"I mean, why are you doing something so meaningless and without a future?"
The beggar let out a mocking laugh:
"You're quite boring.
I clean your car, and you pay me.
This is just a business transaction.
The things you're saying to me now, that's what's meaningless."
Jessica was stunned and opened her mouth in shock.
She was a company executive, with countless young talents under her, and she's used to dealing with numerous social elites. On the business battlefield, she was almost invincible.
Yet, she found herself stumped by a beggar.
She felt insulted.
Jessica looked around.
She was afraid of being seen talking to a beggar by acquaintances, thinking it would be embarrassing.
Luckily, there were no acquaintances here, not even a single person.
Jessica earnestly said:
"You could actually attend some skills training, or..."
She was planning a career for the beggar, like an adult crouching down to hold a child's hand to say:
Study well and make progress every day.
Jessica believed that because she had money and status, her words were as precious as gold.
She wanted to change the beggar's life.
Before she could finish, the beggar waved his hand to stop her:
"Wait a minute, are you lecturing me? Are you always so eager to teach others?"
Jessica closed her mouth, with a hint of embarrassment in her eyes.
She considered herself above others.
By her words, through her successful experiences, changing the fate of others, that was meaningful.
Meaningful things can satisfy some psychological need.
For instance, Jessica, if a few words could change a beggar's life, that would be a spiritual elevation.
That's why some successful people or elders are eager to teach.
The beggar looked at Jessica mockingly:
"Do you think I need your help?"
Jessica nodded as a matter of course:
"Yes, I believe you do, because our lives are worlds apart. If you're willing to change..."
The beggar interrupted Jessica again:
"Do you need help?"
Jessica's lips curled into a subtle proud smile:
"I don't need help, because I have everything."
The ignorance of this failure of a beggar made Jessica a bit annoyed.
The beggar looked at her with a deep gaze, a faint smile at his lips:
"No, you don't have everything. We will meet again."
Jessica was left bewildered, watching the beggar's departing back.
Suddenly, the beggar stopped, turned back, and gave Jessica a deep look:
"Vanity is my favorite original sin."
Jessica figured the beggar must have some mental issue. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
A pity, he's quite good-looking.
This world always has so many pitiful people.
...
New City, Central Apartment.
Jessica walked downstairs, and the security guard saluted her solemnly.
In this apartment, all the residents were wealthy people.
The higher the floor, the larger the living space, and the more prestigious the resident.
As the operations director of TT, Jessica was quite wealthy, living on a higher floor, and the security respected this rich lady even more.
Jessica went upstairs, walked into her room, opened the fridge, took out a bottle of red wine, and sat on the sofa to sip it slowly.
The words of the beggar from Xia Country when she left lingered heavily in Jessica's mind.
'Vanity is my favorite original sin.'
Jessica repeated the words 'vanity', the image of a man emerging in her mind.
That man was her first love.
Back then, to develop in New City, she left her hometown.
She originally agreed with her first love to return in two years.
Who could have expected her career to flourish so much, with an ever-expanding future.
Gradually, she forgot about the man from her hometown.
That man wasn't much better than the various social elites and business movers she interacted with now.
She shook her head:
"This isn't vanity, it's ambition."
Jessica drank too much, eventually drifting to sleep in her apartment.
The moonlight filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows, enveloping her, gradually fixing, and a magical power emerged.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, on the street, a man gazed at Jessica's room.
He wore a black suit, draped in a trench coat, stepping in brand new, shiny leather shoes.
Li Yang adjusted the round hat on his head:
"Sweet dreams."
...
Ring, ring, ring, ring...
The alarm noise made it hard for Jessica to sleep.
Jessica sleepily reached out for her phone.
"Mom! Mom! Take me to school now!"
The tender voice rang in Jessica's ear.
Jessica suddenly awoke, looking incredulously at the little girl carving-like in front of her:
"Who are you?"
The little girl pouted:
"You're sleepwalking again!"
Jessica quickly scanned her surroundings.
It was a simple, old room.
This wasn't Central Apartment!
Where is this?
Have I been kidnapped?!
"Jessica, I'm really sorry, I have a trial to attend today, can you please take the child to school again?"
A man came out from inside the house.
The man wore a cheap suit, a piece of bread in his mouth.
Jessica's eyes widened:
"Arlan?! What are you doing here?! What's going on?!"
Arlan was Jessica's first love, the very man she abandoned for being unsuccessful.
Arlan shook his head dotingly, walked over to Jessica, and kissed her on the forehead:
"Darling, I don't have time to play with you today.
I'm sure to win today's trial.
Come back quickly tonight to celebrate.
Breakfast is on the table."
Arlan finished speaking and hurriedly left.
The little girl sat on the bed, grabbing Jessica's arm:
"Mom! Take me to school, it's the sports day tonight, I can't be late!"
Jessica screamed:
"Don't touch me!"
Jessica quickly got out of bed, wearing her pajamas, and ran outside.
Her Ferrari was gone, replaced by a very old car.
Jessica started the car and drove towards the TT Tower.
...
Arriving at the base of TT Tower, Jessica walked in quickly, only to be stopped by security:
"Miss, may I see your ID, please."
Jessica looked at the security guard in shock:
"Are you crazy? I'm Jessica!"
Jessica angrily pushed past the security, heading upstairs.
The security quickly grabbed her arm:
"You can't go in!"
Jessica was full of anger:
"I'm scheduled to discuss the promotional theme with God Creation Group today, don't hold me up!"
The security frowned:
"Who are you scheduled with?"
Jessica went into a frenzy:
"Is today April Fools' Day?!
I'm Jessica, the operations director!"
At that moment, the security saw someone coming down the stairs and immediately saluted:
"Hello, Director!"
Jessica turned her head and was stunned.
The person was the beggar she saw last night.
Now, the beggar was in a full suit, while she was in cheap pajama clothes.
...
Happy New Year, brothers.
