Ultimate Check-in System-Chapter 54: Upcoming Invasion
"Anyway, there isn’t a lot to do here. Unless I go crazy, you will always support me. So, there is no reason for you to become a council member."
Tyler and Misaka reached in front of the watchtower while talking.
They entered the watchtower and found Alex fiddling with strange runes.
Tyler didn’t recognize a single rune. Instead, he found it strange that nobody was working here.
"Why is no one here?"
He looked at Misaka and asked.
"Because Alex said he will be staying inside for a long time. So, there was no reason to waste the time of a hunter here."
"We have sent them away to check our surroundings. We still don’t know what we are going to face next."
Misaka replied.
"Nice!"
He gave her a thumbs-up for her thick thinking.
Although he could also do this job and would do it much better than them, he was their leader.
Only if they couldn’t do something, he was supposed to step in and complete it.
"Alex, can I test the power of the formation?"
He asked.
Alex raised his hand, and the runes slowly stopped glowing.
He turned back and said.
"It’s ready for test."
They walked out of the city, but Tyler didn’t feel anything. It was weird, so he turned towards Alex, who said.
"Now, release your Aura!"
Tyler nodded and released his Aura.
As soon as he finished that, the light around his city glistened, but the formation was still invisible. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"Now, you can use your attacks."
Alex said.
Hearing that, Tyler raised his palm, and a pale blue flame appeared on his palm. He turned the flame into a fireball and threw it towards his city.
If this attack landed on his city, it could easily destroy the gates of his city. So, he was taking a huge risk by throwing it there.
Bang!
Before it reached the gate, the flame collided against an invisible wall that reflected the flames at him.
He was surprised, but he slapped the flames, and it disintegrated in mid-air. He looked at Alex and said.
"Can it reflect all kinds of attacks?"
"Because I am only Fourth Rank, it can reflect or block the attacks from Fourth Rank hunters or monsters and spirits equivalent to that rank."
"But this formation has two big issues. It requires complete repairing after each battle, and it costs a lot of Absorption Stone."
"I was trying to add Energy Absorption Formation, then I realized we didn’t have enough materials. So, I had no choice but to give up."
Hearing that, Tyler raised the power of his flames, turning it into a literal dragon, and shot it towards the city.
If this formation didn’t hold, this kind of attack could easily destroy the entire city.
In fact, many citizens who were outside their houses also saw the gigantic blue fire dragon coming towards them.
Bang!
Then, it collided with an invisible barrier.
They didn’t see the barrier, but they knew something had stopped it. Even from a distance, they could still feel the heat.
But the fire didn’t reach them. Not just fire, even the impact didn’t reach them.
Seeing this, Tyler nodded his head with satisfaction.
"If it can block this, I wouldn’t need to be worried about the city."
Although he didn’t think he was a Tyrant, he also knew that without him, this city wouldn’t be able to continue.
It had only the foundation for a year.
Misaka nodded her head and asked.
"Is there a way to make this formation stronger?"
Alex shook his head.
"That’s impossible! Sacred Jewels of Thousand Light Formation relies on my own energy to form and function."
"The natural energy only acts as a maintenance. That’s why if it gets attacked, I would need to personally repair it even if it wasn’t destroyed."
"Unfortunately, you guys are restricted to a certain ability, making it impossible to learn this formation."
When he said that, Tyler chimed in.
"Maybe not!"
He looked at Misaka and said.
"You might be able to learn this formation."
Alex looked at them and asked.
"Am I missing something?"
Misaka nodded, and her eyes changed, showing the golden dots as she spoke.
"My abilities allow me to absorb others’ powers. If I absorb your Light Manipulation, I will be able to use this formation, right?"
"No!"
Alex shook his head. Seeing their confused expressions, he explained.
"Rune in itself isn’t the problem. The source of energy comes from my Light Manipulation, but do you know why I learned this ability?"
"Because I come from the Elf Race. Our race attunes us to nature. We can learn any natural element we desire without much effort."
"You can copy my skill. You can copy my Light Manipulation, but you can’t copy the true essence of Light."
"Without that, you will not be able to use formations like Sacred Jewels of Thousand Light. This is one of the core formations of my race."
Hearing that, Tyler released a deep breath and said.
"That actually makes sense. This formation was able to block Fourth Rank attack even though it was created by a Fourth Rank hunter."
"Not only that, but it can also block the invading force, right?"
Alex nodded.
"It has registered our life energy. Because of that, anyone who is part of our city can enter and leave the city without any problem."
"But if someone tried to sneak in, they would immediately start an alarm inside the Watchtower."
"Then, a projection of the entire city will appear in a crystal. That projection will show the person who sneaked in."
"More importantly, if someone is given control of this formation, they can use the power of this formation to launch light-based attacks."
"Of course, if I use this formation for attack, I will be able to show its greatest strength."
"If Misaka copies my power, she can show strength only second to me. Others’ display of power would be even lower."
Hearing that, Tyler and Misaka looked at each other and nodded.
Misaka raised her hand and touched his head.
[First Skill- Power Absorption]
She didn’t leave her hand on his head for long. This skill was quite dangerous.
It could permanently absorb someone’s ability.
After removing her hand, Misaka felt a strange sensation coursing through her body.
Using the Aura, she guided that sensation to her ability crystal. With the first ability still activated, she began to display the power of Light Manipulation.
She controlled the particles of light around her and gathered them into the form of a sphere.
After a moment, she dispersed her light sphere and said.
"I think I understand where the problem lies. Unless I absorb his ability permanently, I can’t create light."
"I can only manipulate the light existing around me."
Hearing that, Tyler asked.
"What if you absorb the Light Manipulation permanently from someone else?"
Misaka paused and said.
"Then, I might be able to create Light."
"Not might You will surely be able to create light."
Alex spoke.
Just when they were discussing, they sensed three Auras running towards them.
They immediately recognized these Auras, but what surprised them was their conditions.
None of them seemed injured, but their Auras sent out a lot of emotions. It was only when these people reached closer, they noticed their expressions.
It was dread and helplessness.
Just after seeing this, Tyler turned towards Alex and said.
"This is gonna be a catastrophe."
"I told you this will be a calamity."
Alex replied.
"But we can’t give."
Misaka interrupted.
Tyler smiled and said.
"Nobody talked about giving up. I am just curious why they seem so helpless."
"You are excited?" Alex couldn’t help but feel confused upon sensing his emotions.
Tyler gave him a surprised look and asked.
"How do you know?"
"I can sense it. No, why are you excited about this?" Alex asked.
"Because it was too boring before."
Tyler didn’t give them the real answer.
Deep down, he wondered if he was truly a protagonist. While he did have the system, problems didn’t seem to touch him.
While he did encounter a few assassinations, they weren’t even a challenge for him.
It was a bit lonely, but he had too little time to feel lonely. He was busy handling the growth of this city.
This caused him to wonder if he was truly the protagonist.
Awakening the system made him believe he was, but the lack of danger made him doubt.
System or not, trouble would never stop haunting the protagonists.
And, most of the time, these problems wouldn’t be small. They could be life-threatening.
That’s why he wanted this kind of calamity to happen.
"How was it?"
When Liam, Jacob, and Martin arrived, Misaka stared at them in their eyes and asked.
They were panting for a moment, but they eventually caught their breath and replied with fear in their eyes.
"Two extremely powerful spirits! We have sensed your Aura before. The pressure they gave was similar to yours."
"There are four more spirits whose strength was only a bit weaker than yours. Finally, several others who put pressure similar to the Lord."
"There isn’t a single monster. This is a Spirit Invasion."
