Chapter 420: Getting Smoked
Chapter 420 - Getting Smoked
His entire body hurt as he collided with the ground again, sometimes passing through another specter and seeing multiple notifications appear.

Bob made his move as he was lifted and in mid-arc for another impact.
Lightning rain started falling from the sky, a cloud forming above. As bolts erupted around them, and a Fire Nove swept out in all directions, his skill activated the big one.
[ Phasing ]
His body careened through the air upward and away from Kazrak who it appeared, needed a moment to figure out what had happened.
Max saw the wolf look in his palm and almost chuckled except for the pain he felt all over as regeneration quickly took care of the damage he had sustained.
I think he thought perhaps my leg ripped off.
Focus! We’re down our skills and hopefully his will wear off soon.
Bob used their Wind Control skill to right the direction they were traveling and get them in position to return to the fight.
An axe flew through his chest, crashing into the barrier above before vanishing and reappearing in the silver hand of his opponent.
“YES! MORE! SHOW ME MORE!”
Cheers could be heard after Kazrak finished shouting, waving both axes in the air as he took off in the direction they were in.
Distance meant nothing.
Max wondered if the crowd could even keep up with what was being shown on the displays. He could barely stay focused as Bob controlled their movements, keeping them out of reach of the wolf who continued to leap from the floor after him.
Axes were being thrown randomly, sometimes when Kazrak was in the air and other times when he was on the ground.
His sonar skill, combined with evasion and Bob’s ability to react quickly, kept them safe from the attacks.
It’s not wearing off! He’s still fast!
With his berserker buff gone and only about thirty seconds left on his Ultimate Form, Max wondered just how long the wolf could stay in what was a berserker-like state.
Blood still dripped down the creature’s mouth, and Max held up his shield, deflecting an axe throw, his hammer now a thick sword that deflected the attack that almost struck his leg.
He’s too fast! I’m trying to cleanse this curse but can’t, and we’ve lost like 20% of our movement speed. Even in the air and with the ability to fly, I’m draining mana, and we’re going to have to land soon.
Can we fight him? I mean… if he is like this how do we defeat him?
He doesn’t appear to be healing. I’m unsure if it’s a choice he made or something else. There is no doubt, though, that he is in a berserker state, and I’m going to venture a guess that the more damage he takes, the worse this will get.
Worse?! Like faster and stronger than this?
No reply came as they worked together to block another set of attacks, a wall of air followed by a pair of wind blades striking Kazrak’s lower legs as he hurtled toward them.
Having a second to spare, Max watched as the wolf hit the ground and rolled back on his feet in an instant, and came at him again.
[ Consume has Partially Cleansed Atrophy Curse ]
Finally… give me a moment.
The game of wolf and human was never-ending. Max’s flight skill and the limited height of the arena, combined with the air walls and wind blades, bought time for Bob to do his thing.
It took another minute before Max felt a change in his movement.
[ Consume has Fully Cleansed Atrophy Curse ]
Immediately, he flew faster and the attempts by Kazrak to attack them were now extremely easy to dodge.
Okay… I should be able to do that much faster if he uses that ability again. Now we need to decide what to do next.
I can’t win head to head can I?
Most likely, no… we still haven’t been cut by his blades even when he had the chance to. It is most likely still because he is having fun. Look at his expression. His eyes are almost like a glowing red crystal and that is the most sadistic smile we have seen in a while.
His skill was right. It looked like Kazrak was enjoying all this, even after having suffered blows that hit hard enough to draw blood.
What if we instead don’t fight and try to wait this out?
A trickle of consideration and humor filled his head and then for the first time in a while Bob’s laughter reverberated inside his skull.
That thought of yours… it is… ingenious. Still we aren’t sure if this place will actually shrink. It would be one way to win if it does and never stops.
Our options are limited and while I’d rather not display to everyone watching on all the worlds or in this arena, it would be better to show we are smart and strong.
Flying through the air, they worked together, each of them calculating the exact center of the arena.
That’s the spot. All we need to do now is let old Wolfie miss, and we can set up shop there.
Max smiled, and he saw a slight shift in Kazrak’s expression, both eyes narrowing slightly as he came at him again.
[ Blink ]
[ Haste ]
Having lured the wolf to the outer edges of the arena, they were at the center of it while his opponent was still in the air.
[ Dimensional Space ]
The door opened, and Max rushed inside, feeling the sensation that came as he turned and looked at his opponent.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
A howl of anger filled the arena, and Kazrak stood just slightly outside the open doors, snarling and waving both weapons.
“A dimensional space?! No one mentioned that! I will cut off–”
“They didn’t know,” Max said as he held up his hand. “I’d prefer not to have shown so many people, but I’d rather win any way I can.”
“You… you!”
Blood sprayed from his opponent's mouth as he gnashed his teeth, not hiding his displeasure at all.
“Yup… it’s me. Now then, tell me, Kazrak, what will you do?”
He threw his weapon, which struck an invisible wall, falling to the ground.
“That won’t work,” Max said with a grin.
Another howl came and while his opponent let out whatever anger and rage filled him, Max took out a chair and set it on the stone floor, sitting and relaxing.
“I guess we’ll find out what happens to this arena space after all.”
For the first time since this fight started, Max saw Kazrak’s facade change and the wolf turned, glancing around the arena and quickly looking back at him through the open door.
“You… can’t be serious.”
“Oh, I am. If you’re right and the arena will continue to shrink and judging by how rapidly you’re blinking, this whole place will eventually cave in on itself. Tell me, can your body withstand that?”
Both axes moved so fast they blurred, even to Max, as they glowed red for a moment and then a bright purple color. None of those abilities did anything as the light-absorbing metal struck against a wall of nothing, bouncing back each time.
Half a minute of his barrage ended with a howl that sounded like the wolf was in pain.
“DO NOT BE A COWARD! FACE ME!”
Max laughed and shrugged, summoning a book from storage as well as a cookie.
“Big words from the one who picked a place he thought would guarantee him a win. Why not choose a place made of stone or sand?”
Snarling, Kazrak swung both axes once more at the opening, absorbing the recoil and then turning, walking off out of view.
I don’t think he’s happy.
When you say things as obvious as that, I’m certain hanging out with your dwarven friend has made you stupid. He’s enraged, and we both know this. Now then, will we take bets on how long he will last before he breaks?
No… I don’t like to bet on a life like that. Still, I’m certain he’ll fight until the very end.

Hours passed, and the crowd's noise began to get louder as the space where Kazrak stood continued shrinking. Already, the wolf was bent over slightly, the top of the arena pressing down on his head, and from what Max had tested with an arrow, there was only twenty yards or less of space around where they were.
Howls continued coming, and Kazrak strained against an object he knew wouldn’t move.
“FREE ME, OR I WILL RAVAGE YOUR FAMILIES! END THIS FIGHT I ORDER YOU!”
His constant threats and calls for a way out made the crowd go wild, and the truth of what this place represents was evident to all.
A place of death if a single mistake or miscalculation was made.
“Igarra wanted the same thing, but she couldn’t even force those outside to stop what happened in here,” Max said as he stood near the entrance. “You’re going to die. How it happens… well that’s the question.”
“I won’t surrender!”
“Oh I wasn’t asking you to do such a thing,” he replied. “It’s more of will my spells and abilities kill you or will the collapsing of the arena do the job?”
“You couldn’t kill me earlier. How can you hope…” he paused, the ticking of some timer they both knew had taken place, causing him to be pressed down a foot. “Hope to end me?”
“When you can’t move, how will you defend yourself? Besides… I have lots of ways to make this work in my favor.”
A snarl came from his opponent, but his expression didn’t convey the sound. Both of his eyes were darting around, seeing the space around him vanish.
“You’re starting to wonder what it will be like… dying. Trust me… it’s not fun,” Max proclaimed as he rubbed his chin and gazed at the bent-over wolfkin. “I lost count of how many times I died against Igarra. Seems foolish if you ask me to come here and think you could claim my world as your own.”
Slowly, he gazed across the open area, knowing countless beings were watching this fight come to an end.
“I’d like to think out there that others won't be foolish and believe they can win. They can’t. All they do is come here to die if they challenge me or the one I set up in my place.”
A low groan came from Kazrak as the arena shrunk again, now on his hands and knees, his back pressed against the top part of the barrier.
It’s time. Take it.
A smile he had practiced the last time he spent months here formed, and Max stepped out from his domain, watching the wolf turn his head to look at him.
With his weapon in hand, Max poked upwards and almost laughed to realize the top of the space was only inches from the roof of his head.
“I’ll make this quick,” Max said as he waited on Bob.
[ Cooldowns Reset ]
Next to him a large glowing ball of lightning grew at the tip of his weapon and his skill and companion poured endless amounts of mana into it.
“You… can’t defeat me!” Kazrak proclaimed, trying to move but unable to. “I am a child of Liulfr!”
“And he’s going to be very disappointed in you tarnishing his name,” Max replied as he set his feet.
You need to hurry. The next shift is coming soon.
Let’s end this. I have one last thing to say.
“This is my final warning to any foolish enough to challenge me for this world!” Max shouted as he moved forward, set his feet and swung as he activated every skill he had.
One second he was just a few yards from the wolfkin.
The next, he had a hand on his bulging, metallic arm.
[ Festering Touch ]
[ Weakness ]
A single step took him away as a spasm worked its way through his opponent.
Unlike the first time he went all out, Max didn’t use a hammer.
His newest weapon was the blade spear it had originally been crafted as.
Lightning arced off the tip as he drove it toward Kazrak’s head.

Three pillars shot upward, forcing his opponent's head up, unable to move it from the place where Max had trapped it.
A pair of silver eyes, no longer red, watched as the bladed tip, now a white color from the spell imbued in it, plunged through the left eyeball and through the socket.

No howl came.
Silence was the only sound for a moment as the blade struck true, connecting to the back of Kazrak’s skull. Max twisted the shaft, receiving a jolt of energy and a cold snap that told him the wolfkin was no longer there.
