His body shuddered from the power that filled him, and as he stood there, his spear lodged within Kazrak's orbital socket, Max took a few deep breaths and collected himself.
Focus on making a statement. We can deal with those notifications later.
Clearing his throat, Max yanked his weapon free and stored it.
After doing so, Bob dismissed all of the walls he had summoned, and his opponent's corpse fell to the ground.
Cheers rang out, and shouts of his name echoed as the arena began to return to its normal size. Gone was the protective barrier and for the first time in forever, he felt the cacophony of the praise being given to him.
Like giant waves in an ocean, the noise from everyone gathered slammed into him repeatedly, and he spun around, seeing thousands of different beings on their feet, or hooves, waving appendages and making noise.
His door to the dimensional space was still open, and Max frowned at the body next to his feet.
Do I need to cut this up or…
Give me a moment.
He could feel Bob doing something and slowly the doorway began to expand, finally stopping when it was almost twenty feet tall and wide.
I guess that works… I just need to focus to make it like that.
A chuckle came from their bond, and Max grabbed the silver hair of his fallen opponent and dragged the body to the opening, tossing it easily inside. Once it was within, he willed the door to close and turned his attention back to the crowd.
Holding up both hands, he waited, and a bell sounded, cutting everyone off.
“This is my world. To anyone out there watching, world champion, god, or whoever. Make a move against this world, and you make a move against me.”
He glared as he slowly turned, feeling the area around his eyes tighten as he scowled.
“You do not want to make an enemy of me. If for a moment you think you can outsmart me or overpower me, know this. I’ve yet to show you what I’m truly capable of.”
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Lowering his hands, the crowd roared again. After taking a moment to bask in it all, Max snapped his fingers and pointed at his feet. A second later, a shimmering portal appeared beneath him.
Blinking he sensed the two in the room, one bouncing up and down the other appearing to be hugging himself and shaking.
“You did it!” Jazzjak exclaimed. “I knew you would but still!”
“Bah, I’m the only one who bet on you,” Quilazmore proclaimed as he moved forward. “Still, I am glad you used Kazrak’s plan against him.”
Max smiled and held out his hand, shaking each of theirs as he turned and looked at the screen behind him.
Lines were everywhere, with different numbers and reports scrolling along it.
“This room… is different.”
“Oh yes! It’s the main control room,” the dark elf said as he moved to a long metal bench-like area with hundreds of buttons and other things embedded in it. “From here, the arena is controlled and programmed. I can also see how we did with the betting, what kind of gifts have been given, and by whom!”
“Gifts?”
Jazzjak hopped to where a green and blueish chest was and tapped it.
“Inside here, gifts will appear from those who are either present or took the time to visit one of the locations where such things can be gifted. The AR-42069 network spans tens of thousands of worlds and showcases fights from all of them. Some are very basic and in my opinion, not worth watching at all, but occasionally someone might be bored when nothing else is available. Others, like today, are considered one of the top three tiers, drawing viewers from all over.”
His head swam a little from what he was learning, and the concept that tens of thousands of worlds were all part of some display like this bothered him deeply.
“So this fight… was the highest?”
Both the rabbit and dark elf chuckled as they looked at each other.
“Uh… no,” replied Quilazmore. “Your fight was the second highest. Alpha is rare, with most fights like the one you had between Igarra and yourself being a Bravo.”
“A bravo? Why would that one have been less than today?”
“You were nobody,” Jazzjak quickly replied as he opened up the box and reached inside, pulling out a purple potion that swirled like a vortex. “Oh, this is a great gift indeed! We’ll need to send a thank you to Hkruaguma for this!”
Max watched as Quilazmore’s eyebrows rose at least an inch. The elf smiled, and his sharp teeth were all displayed.
“That is a great gift! I’ll make a note of it!”
Turning, he began poking buttons quickly and after a few seconds, returned his attention to Max, rolling his eyes after doing so.
“You look lost… we tried to tell you there was much to teach you, but you never had time.”
“I… guess you’re right,” he replied. “Still… should I ask what that potion does and what kind of fight is required for the highest tier.”
Jazzjak’s nose twitched rapidly and the vorpal bunny walked over to Max and held out the potion.
“Inspect it and you’ll see!”

Elixir of Limit Break
+20% to all stats for 4 hours. -20% to all stats for 4 hours after the bonus wears off.
2% Chance to become addicted
*****
“Wow… that’s good and bad,” Max stated as he inspected the potion. “Just how rare are these?”
“Very, for lots of reasons,” the rabbit stated. “One, they are hard to come by, and two, they can be addictive. Rumors swirl of those who almost can’t seem to handle not having one. For those who are… life gets messy fast.”
“But they are helpful in a pinch,” Quilazmore said. “If you fight an opponent in the arena that might be a tough one, you can see how a bonus like that can make the difference between life or death.”
Do you think Kazrak used one of these?
I have no way of guessing but part of me doubts it. Based on his behavior, he was pretty cocky and very protective of his heritage. Then again, when one's life comes down to it… If he had taken one, it would have worn off long before we killed him.
Storing the elixir, Max pointed at the screen with all the numbers that continued to change.
“We’ll talk about this later. For now, I need to go and see my friends. Thank you again for helping me as much as you could.”
Both of them chuckled, and Jazzjak moved to where the dark elf was and pushed him aside.
“I’ve got this. You need to take him to where he wants to go.”
Grinning, Quilazmore moved to a wall in the room and drew a door frame along the stone with his finger.
Gold light appeared, and then the section of stone he marked vanished, revealing a portal.
“I can get you close to it. Do I need to show you the way?”
Shaking his head, Max clapped the elf on the shoulder and stopped just before going through.
“I’ll be fine. Thank you again, and each of you tell your wives I’ll be looking forward to meeting them and having dinner.”
He could sense them both smile as he took the last two steps that sent him through the portal.
Something tells me that’s going to be a dinner to remember.

Tanila’s embrace felt amazing, and Rakonath was right there with her, nuzzling the pair with his neck.
“I was scared,” she whispered. “It had been so long and… for a moment…”
“You don’t have to say anything,” he replied, hugging her just a little tighter. “I would have returned to inform you of the time, but I didn’t want to risk giving away your position just in case.”
I took care of her while you were gone. Her nails are really good at scratching my scales.
Unable to help it, Max started to laugh, and Tanila pulled back and shot him with a quizzical look.
“Rakonath said that you give excellent scratches.”
She laughed, and soon, a low thrum came from the silver dragon.
“Does this mean the rest of us can finally get our hugs too?” Fowl asked, winking at him.
“For my shorter brother, anytime!”
Being freed from his current embrace, Max moved to where his dwarven friend was and scooped him up and spun him around.
“Gods, I’m going to puke!”
Laughter and thrumming filled the room as he continued to spin his friend around a little longer before setting him down.
“You all about ready to get out of here?” Max asked as he motioned to the door. “I’ve got something to show each of you, and we’re going to need to talk about some things. Big things.”
He could see their reactions.
Relief on some, curiosity on others.
Even Aerthen appeared to look intrigued as her face scrunched up a bit after his statement.
“First, though, I’m going to need to feed Rakonath if he is able to eat some of my enemy.”
Immediately, his dragon began to shake from side to side, his large body threatening to knock someone over if they were next to him.
Moving to the far edge of the room, Max focused on the dimensional storage spell and made it active, increasing the door size until it was as big as Bob had made it.
Gasps came as they saw inside the body of Kazrak.
“He’s huge!” Cordellia exclaimed.
“Everyone’s taller than me,” Fowl bemoaned as Max moved inside and grabbed a leg, dragging the wolfkin out of the storage.
With it lying on the floor, the room was overly cramped, and Max motioned to the silver body.
“Think you can eat it?”
Aerthen raised a hand. “Wait!”
Her words caused the silver dragon, who was about to snake its way past everyone to the free meal, to hesitate
“What’s wrong?” Rakonath asked, his silver eyes following her as she moved near the corpse.
“Smell it first. Can you not sense it?”
Both nostrils flared and then retracted, the younger dragon’s head pulling back.
“It… smells… wrong?”
Her humanoid form’s nose was scrunching as the large woman moved to where the silver corpse lay, and she bent down, lifting up a hand and bringing it to her face.
With her tongue, she tasted the finger and then immediately spat, throwing the hand down.
“Put it away, please!”
Max quickly returned it to the storage space without hesitating and shut the door, waiting to hear what was wrong with it.
“He is… cursed. A weird aura is on him and whatever items are stored within him. If myself or Rakonath consumed such a thing, we would grow stronger, but we would also lose part of ourselves.”
“Lose in what way?” he asked, trying to get a read on her expression.
A drink appeared in her hand, and the red dragon began to gulp it down.
“Corruption,” Tanila said quietly. “He’s been corrupted.”
“Exactly,” Aerthen added after finishing her drink. “I’m not sure how it works, but somehow, this one has been corrupted. His very being is filled with dark, dangerous energy, and you need to find a way to get rid of the corpse. If it was left to decompose on its own, it might ruin a large area of the land it was left on or worse.”
“Worse?” Max asked, now curious about what might be worse than ruining large amounts of land.
“It could possibly turn into an undead being,” Tanila said, getting a nod of agreement from Rakonath’s mentor.
Everyone in the party except Tanila took a step back, each sensing the danger of what had been told.
