Undead Evolution: From Trash To Divine-Chapter 30 - - The Plan ahead
It was quite evident from past evolutions: Tommy unlocked a new skill with each level up. When he had gone from trash grade, he had gotten the top-tier skill Fusion of Life and Death. If it wasn’t for that skill, Lukas might have long died in some random ditch, rotting away for eternity.
However, even though he was mentally prepared, somewhat excited even, he was not expecting Tommy to suddenly receive two new skills at the epic grade evolution.
He didn’t immediately summon Tommy but first examined the skills. With a slightly hopeful look in his eyes, he tapped on the pale blue window flashing in front of him.
[Sacrifice – Unique to Undead War Revenant Tommy
Description: Sacrifice lower grade abilities and talents to upgrade other talent to higher grade.]
A simple and short description, but it was enough to give a rough idea of what the skill was exactly capable of.
"Just exactly what I needed, I can’t keep on learning new skills," Lukas muttered in excitement, feeling incredibly thrilled.
Although he was not some battle genius, even then he knew mastering one move to absolute perfection was better than having multiple mediocre talent.
Practicing one move for thousand times was better than practicing thousand moves one time.
With the Sacrifice skill he could take his rare-grade talents all the way to epic or even legendary?
He was not sure though; after all, there was a lot he did not know about the skill.
After a brief moment of contemplation, he moved on to the next skill.
[Minor Summon Authority: Astral War Revenant can summon one lower-tier undead than himself to aid in battle.]
Another pretty straightforward skill with very handy and simple usage.
Although Minor Summon Authority was not as useful as the Sacrifice skill, Lukas was still happy. With this skill, he could summon one more undead; it was cause for celebration—after all, three was always better than two.
With that thought in mind, Lukas’s expression turned slightly serious. It was now time to summon Tommy and examine the changes.
As if responding to his thoughts, the star energy in his star nerves pulsed and vibrated. Space a few meters away from Lukas rippled and a slightly giant shadow appeared in mid-air, slowly dropping to the ground.
Lukas’s two eyes flashed, examining Tommy’s changed appearance.
The changes were drastic. Tommy’s frame had doubled in size, each bone elongated and thickened. The number of astral runes had doubled compared to before. Although Tommy was simply standing, his presence radiated a suffocating pressure, Lukas felt as if someone had placed something solid and heavy on his shoulders, pushing him toward the ground.
Tommy’s mere presence twisted the gravity in the room.
Sensing Lukas’s gaze, Tommy lifted its skull, staring back. The soul fire in its eyes burned bright crimson. For a moment, Lukas seemed to see a faint spark of intelligence in those two eye sockets.
And then Tommy knelt, awaiting its master’s command.
Lukas watched this scene, and unconsciously a smile appeared on his face.
"Good, very good!"
He was truly thrilled. Tommy’s evolution had given returns way beyond his expectations. With these new skills, the chances of them surviving the upcoming disaster were more than fifty percent.
That was a huge boost, considering more than half of the population was bound to perish.
Lukas, however, didn’t celebrate. Instead, a frown appeared on his face.
"If I could somehow get my hands on a body-refining technique and increase my own cultivation to at least Star Reign rank 3, the chances might increase even further."
Time continued to pass; however, no matter how much he thought, no way to acquire the technique appeared in his head.
Just as he was about to completely give up, his eyes flashed with a strange light. "This disaster might be a blessing for me in disguise..."
Death was inevitable in the beast horde. Even the high and mighty Star Refiners at the peak of Body Reign could fall if they were not careful enough. If he could somehow take advantage of this chaos to farm bones...
The thought alone filled Lukas’s heart with excitement to the point he just couldn’t wait for the beast horde to finally arrive.
Just as this thought could get to his head, Lukas got up and started pacing in the room.
"Although the reward is great, the risk is also very high. If someone with body refining could die, what are the chances that my fate will not be the same?"
The risk and reward were very clear in Lukas’s head. He had to plan carefully, otherwise he might end up like a pig on the chopping board.
While he was thinking, suddenly there came a rapid knocking sound from outside.
Knock! Knock!
"Someone at this hour?"
Lukas’s eyebrows scrunched together. It was already very late at night. Moreover, he was not expecting any guests.
Without even thinking, he signalled Tommy to stay alert.
The situation was very suspicious. Just before his thoughts could go out of control, suddenly a familiar voice came from outside.
"Mr. Lukas, are you inside? It’s me, receptionist of Whitewood Inn, Eva. Please come out, we have some important matters to discuss."
"Eva?"
Hearing that voice, the image of a smiling receptionist flashed in his mind and the frown on his face deepened even further.
"This receptionist Eva, she has no business with me. A lady visiting the room of a young and innocent man like myself this deep into the night... doesn’t she have some bad intentions?"
Lukas’s thoughts were all over the place.
However, just as he was overthinking, Eva called out again.
Lukas calmed down after a moment of panic.
"This is still the Whitewood Inn. She would definitely not do something stupid and alert others."
With the current situation of the settlement, most of the inns were filled to the brim and Whitewood Inn was no exception.
Thinking about all these things, Lukas made up his mind and opened the simple wooden door.
As he expected, there was young Eva standing there with her ever-sweet, warm smile on her face. However, Lukas paid no heed to her; instead his focus landed on the lady standing beside her. Eva was not alone; there was one unknown lady accompanying her.
Dressed in a tight-fitted black suit, the unknown woman had a cat mask on her face, preventing others from taking a look at her features.
"Who is this?" Lukas thought with a frown, his heart growing alert.
