Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 55: A rain walker
Chapter 55: A rain walker
"Do make sure to hang it up," said Mr Kallum, "Leaving it in the box for days won't be ideal. I've added a protective sheet for you to put it on top of the dress when hung up,"
"I promise you that, Mr Kallum," Arabella smiled.
Standing by Katherine who carried the box for her, both women waited for Mr Kallum to turn around and head for the main entrance. They then Ascended the stairs leading up to the first floor.
"Have you ever seen a more beautiful dress than this one?" Katherine hung the dress in Arabella's wardrobe first thing after entering her room.
"I don't believe I have," the young woman placed her locket on the nightstand beside her bed.
Their merry chirps were only broken by the thunder rumbling the walls of the manor. Arabella rubbed her hands over her arms while approaching the window to watch the raging storm.
"Tonight will be quite cold. You'd better cover yourself well," Katherine shut the wardrobe door and moved closer to Arabella to watch as the rain hammered the glass with such force that their impact sounded like knocks, "Alright, then, I'll be off. Try to get some rest. It's already late for you. I think you should leave reading for the morning," the vampire's eyes followed Arabella's gaze towards the anthology that lay on the table.
"You are right," the young woman looked down and smiled, "Besides, I don't think I'd be able to focus even if I tried. Butterflies still are beating their wings through my stomach,"
And with that, Katherine left her to her own devices. After a warm bath and a change of garments, Arabella slipped between the bed and the thick sheets that draped her body. Some matters still hung on her shoulders, but overall, it was not a bad night for sleeping.
Her head light on the soft pillow, the assertive pitter-pattering of the rain against every surface it hit made it all the more soothing.
Dreams came easy and very soon, her consciousness was submerged beyond reality's reach.
The night went on until sunlight knocked at the horizon. It was a short lapse of time during which all was quiet as humans had yet to wake up while vampires made their way to bed.
An odd moment, every day, when only one creature stood or... Sat depending on Silas' mood that day.
He who never feared the sun. He who never had a drop of sleep would never know the bliss of a dream and the horror of a nightmare.
The vampire merely wondered about them, about what goes on through the mind of the slumbering.
He stood as the only soul to amble the hallways of the manor, basking in its muteness and stillness at times but also wishing for life around him at others.
The sound of nature was simply not enough all of the time. The ambient sounds produced by staff around the manor were missed, even though he'd never admit such a thing out loud.
Marching by one of the windows that opens on the gardens, Silas stopped in his tracks, his eyes locked on a shadowy, humanoid figure growing smaller and fainter.
Intrigued, the vampire exited towards the garden and followed the silhouette, carefully at first.
The puttering of their feet against the wet ground traveled at a regular pace and sounded quite light.
When Silas decided that he'd investigated enough, his feet rushed him forward. In a flash, the vampire stood in front of the mysterious rain walker.
His diamonds widened, transfixed on the familiar woman who... Simply kept on walking despite him being visibly in her way.
Eyes strictly ahead, Arabella paid him no mind as though she stared right through his body.
"What is the meaning of this?" he asked firmly.
To no avail, the young woman carried on, and when she came inches from colliding with him, her body rotated to the side for her to walk around him and continue her journey wherever its end might be.

Soaking completely wet, the white nightgown covering her stuck to her skin, revealing almost every part of her. Even her feet were bare.
Although what worried Silas the most had been her unnaturally slow heart rate. Far too low for someone out of bed. It thumped very timidly against her chest, threatening to quit at any moment.
She breathed in through her nose and exhaled through her mouth as the white fog out of it would disperse and blend with the air around them.
Without wasting another second, Silas stepped in front of her once more and held her in place. She did not put up a fight per se, but she did try to walk around him again, though he did not allow it.
Gently, he slid his hands between her hair and skin where his thumbs would end up on her jawline while the rest of his fingers would lay on her neck.
Holding her head still with great ease, Silas managed to glimpse her eyes. The gemstone green of her irises had dimmed significantly as though death had already claimed her.
"Arabella," calmly, he called out for her but reached no different results.
Her relaxed features rendered her expressionless, earning her a hazy glare. Her body trembled between his hands as her lips had begun to turn blue.
In a haste, Silas let go of her face and wrapped one arm around her back while the second went underneath her knees, lifting her off the ground as if she weighed nothing.
