Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 318: When It’s Over, It’s Over
"Jude and Pomelo, those two little rascals have gone missing. I just got a bit distracted, and the next thing I knew, they disappeared somewhere to play, and I’ve searched half the hospital without finding them." Seraphina Sinclair might not have been worried under normal circumstances, but things are not quite the same recently, so she is very concerned about Jude and Pomelo’s safety.
Keith Hughes quickly reassured her, "Don’t worry too much. I’ll handle this matter; you go back to the ward first. As soon as I find the two children, I’ll notify you immediately."
Seraphina knows she’s not in the best health right now. If she runs around and gets caught by the media, they will end up writing a bunch of nonsense again.
After thinking it through, she had no choice but to ask Keith for help.
"Then I’ll trouble you, senior."
"Do we need to be so formal between us? Don’t forget, you’re still my advisor. I haven’t won over my girlfriend yet, so you’ll have to help me a lot afterward." Keith smiled generously and waved at Seraphina, "You head back to the ward; I’ll go find the two kids now and notify you immediately upon any news."
Seraphina had just returned to the ward when she opened the door and saw Desmond Fairchild’s anxious face. He tensely grabbed her arm, his expression serious as he asked, "Where did you go? Don’t you know your body can’t be exposed to the wind? Why did you go out dressed like this? Don’t you know how worried I am about you?"
"Well, it seems President Fairchild is really worried." Seraphina expressionlessly brushed off Desmond’s hand and returned to the room.
After hurting her so deeply before, now he pretends to be the nice guy. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Seraphina, won’t you stop being angry with me? When I saw you weren’t in the ward earlier, do you know how worried I was? I got so scared, my heart almost stopped beating, and I..."
"President Fairchild, if there’s nothing else, please leave. I’m fine here; no need for your concern. Instead of wasting your leisure time worrying about me, better keep an eye on your current girlfriend who keeps stirring trouble. I’ll be thanking the heavens if she doesn’t come bothering me."
Seraphina was unwilling to listen to whatever Desmond had to say; she felt everything he said was a lie.
She used to trust this man completely, but in the end, he hurt her the most. Now she doesn’t know which of Desmond’s words she should trust or mistrust.
Of all the words he spoke, which ones were true, and which were false? She can no longer tell.
Since it’s all indistinguishable anyway, why bother figuring it out? After all, they’ve broken up already, so why keep entangling?
Seraphina’s indifferent demeanor pierced Desmond’s heart, feeling as though a needle had been ruthlessly driven into it, the pain making it hard for him to breathe.
"Seraphina, are you really going to be like this?" Desmond’s expression turned gloomy, his voice heavy with profound sadness.
Seraphina sneered twice, "That’s quite interesting. Do you think I want this? Isn’t all this caused by you? Desmond, since we’re already over, let’s not get entangled anymore. Whatever reasons or plans you had before, ended means ended."
Between her and Desmond, there really isn’t much left to say. These days, Desmond has stayed by her side, diligently serving her. She knows what he wants to do, but she really can’t forgive him.
She heard Quentin Jennings say before that Desmond actually had his reasons, that it was all for her good, but Seraphina really doesn’t accept this kind of "good."
Desmond is always like this, never asking if she wants, whether she’s willing. Always doing these things on his own; she doesn’t actually think this is truly for her benefit.
Rather than be protected by Desmond like this, she would prefer to stand beside him facing everything together.
Be it life or death, as long as she can be by his side, that would be enough.
But this point, Desmond didn’t understand before, nor does he understand now.
Some things Seraphina doesn’t want to say too clearly, yet she knows that Desmond understands them deep in his heart.
Seraphina’s resolute eyes and cold words once again made Desmond feel the powerlessness of this relationship. All his efforts, in Seraphina’s view, seem merely a joke.
The idea of reconciling never occurred to her.
All these days, she maintained this lukewarm attitude, hoping that consistent kindness could change her mind. Yet today, she once again decisively opposes.
Seraphina turned her back, not wanting to see Desmond’s face, pondering for a while before slowly speaking, "There’s nothing more to say between us. Please leave."
After standing for a while, feeling no movement behind her, Seraphina finally turned around.
Before she could steady herself, she was pulled tightly into a warm embrace.
"Desmond, what exactly do you want?" Seraphina frowned, trying hard to push him away.
Above her head came Desmond’s bossy and unreasonable voice, "I want you."
Listen to this! What a daring statement! Seraphina’s pretty face was suddenly marked by a suspicious blush, and that sentence involuntarily led her to a stream of thoughts.
"You want to end it, but I disagree. As long as I disagree, you remain my woman, Seraphina." Desmond’s deep gaze held Seraphina’s eyes, filled with too much—a mix of deep affection, dominance, and a trace of anger.
"But we have long ended, you were the one who suggested the breakup." Seraphina was exasperated; this man’s authoritarian nature surely misapplied because it wasn’t her who initiated the breakup.
Clearly sensing Desmond’s body stiffen instantly, she thought he would let go. Unexpectedly, he not only didn’t let go but held her tighter, speaking even more decisively, "No matter what, I won’t let go."
His determination indeed gave Seraphina a moment of soft-heartedness, but the thought of what Desmond did before to push her away made her feel inexpressible hatred. Even if it was for her good, even if it was all an act, his flirtations with Nina Kerr and Natalie Summers still left her unable to let go.
With that in mind, Seraphina’s scarcely softened heart instantly froze, pushing away from Desmond’s embrace with chilly words: "Whether you let go or not is your business; I, Seraphina, will never fall into the same trap twice, take care of yourself."
Saying that, she went back to bed, completely ignoring Desmond.
Desmond understood; further entanglement would only trigger more aversion from Seraphina, so he said nothing more.
After he left, Seraphina took a deep breath, gently patting her chest. Just now in Desmond’s embrace, she felt her heart was about to leap out; luckily, she restrained herself.
Just as she was about to lie down to rest, she remembered the two children still had no news yet, and couldn’t help becoming anxious again.
While considering whether to call Keith to inquire, her phone suddenly rang. She hurriedly picked it up, "Senior, have you found the two children?"
"Rest assured, I’ve found them. Jude is unfamiliar with the hospital and got lost with Pomelo. I’m taking them to eat something, and we’ll be back soon," Keith said with a smile.
