Chapter 117: THE WEDDING (3)

"Why do you want this house?" Ranon asked; he circled his arm around her belly and rested his chin on her shoulder, watching Hazel peruse the documents and beam at the pictures of the house.

"I like this house," she replied simply and didn’t give any other explanation, but Ranon didn’t ask further.

"Is that what you have been looking for?" he asked when Hazel closed the document and had this satisfaction look on her face.

"Yes, this is perfect." This was what she asked from him the first time they made a deal.

"Hm." Ranon kissed her shoulder, but Hazel immediately turned around and facepalmed his face to push him away from kissing her.

"No," she said sternly. "Ah!"

Hazel retracted her hand immediately when she felt his hot and wet tongue licking her palm. This man was unbelievable!

"Yuck! You licked my palm!" Hazel wiped her palm on his suit while the offender laughed.

"You didn’t complain when I licked you somewhere else."

This man was wicked! No one would believe how dirty his mind was when they were alone, since it was entirely different from the image that he preserved in public.

"Stop," Hazel groaned when Ranon leaned over again to kiss her neck. He did stop. "Tell me why your stepmother picked up the phone the other day."

She would rather not continue because she knew she couldn’t resist him, and they didn’t have much time to spare, especially when there was this urgent thing she wanted to ask him.

Ranon had been very busy lately, and Hazel couldn’t find the right time to bring this up; yet this was still on the back of her mind, even though she believed that she had successfully pissed Ema off.

"Picked up the phone?" Ranon frowned. "When did you call?"

Hazel then filled him in on what happened on the day of their final preparation, when Ranon came so late and she was so close to losing her mind because of Laurel.

"What did you say?" There was this amused smile on the corner of his lips when he heard how Hazel reenacted the moment they messed around in the changing room to Ema.

"I was telling her the good part when she hung up the phone."

Ranon couldn’t help it; he laughed. His voice echoed in this changing room. What an irony...

"You really know how to piss someone off." He stretched his hand and caressed her cheek. He stared at her soft brown eyes with admiration.

"So, what happened?" Hazel moved back her head; she crossed her arms. She didn’t want to be touched until she got a clear explanation from him, even though she was still sitting on his lap.

"That day, she came to my office..." Ranon then explained what happened briefly. "I forgot to pick up the phone when I left; that must be when you called me."

Nodding her head, Hazel absorbed the explanation and felt better. They had agreed not to involve the third party in their complicated ’marriage’; thus, she wanted Ranon to stick to it.

"Jealous?"

Hazel scrunched her nose. "No way."

Smiling, Ranon leaned over and captured her lips; this time she didn’t push him away. "You need to get rid of this dress," he said softly between her lips because the dress crumpled between them and it made it difficult for him to pull her closer.

"Just say it if you want to see me naked."

Hazel could feel his smile as they were kissing.

"Where is your mother?" James asked Carl. After the family picture, Laurel left immediately, and he had been looking for her.

"I don’t know." Carl looked around, but he couldn’t find Laurel either. "I tried to call her phone, but she didn’t pick up."

The wedding was close to the end, and some of the guests were tipsy, talking about business and some boring things. Those who had too much alcohol in their system started to loosen up even more and talk about women and other illegal things in low voices.

"Where is she?" James frowned. He was upset but also worried. Laurel had been acting very distant, and it bothered him. freёweɓnovel_com

Usually, Laurel would be the one who tried harder to initiate the reconciliation, but her indifference right now didn’t sit well with him.

Meanwhile, Laurel was actually in the bathroom. She blocked the washbasin drainage and let the hot water fill the bowl. Once it was full, she closed the tap water and plunged her phone inside.

Her expression was devoid of any emotion. She watched how the call came in and slowly the phone died.

You could feel the chill on your spine when you watched how calm Laurel was when she lifted her head and watched her reflection in the mirror. Something snapped inside of her when she overheard James’s conversation with Amelia.

Her mascara was ruined, and her eyes were red because less than ten minutes ago, she cried uncontrollably. Her heart was shattered, and it felt like the world had collapsed on her.

Thankfully, no one came during her breakdown.

But ten minutes later, she looked like she didn’t feel anything. The intense pain disappeared, and it left her with aloofness and calculation.

Slowly, Laurel touched up her makeup and hair. Only once did she look presentable; she took her phone and dried it. The phone was dead.

After that, Laurel walked out of the bathroom like nothing happened and found James and Carl, who were looking for her.

"Where have you been?" James immediately approached her. "I have called you a few times. It’s getting late; we need to leave."

"My phone is dead." Laurel showed her dead phone. "Can I borrow yours? I was looking for Daniel, but I couldn’t find or call him."

James didn’t hesitate when he handed her his phone. "I have some business to attend; I think we need to leave tomorrow."

"Okay," Laurel agreed easily, and this surprised James.
