Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 14: THE DEAL WITH RANON LEIGHTON
Chapter 14: THE DEAL WITH RANON LEIGHTON
Actually, that was not entirely an excuse, because she really liked the lamb chop here even though she didn’t realize that she had eaten all four portions while waiting for Ranon.
"Oh, if you wanted to eat, I would wait for you," Hazel said; she felt a little bit embarrassed for herself.
"No need." Ranon called a waitress to clean up the table and ordered a glass of iced coffee, while Hazel ordered a glass of juice and water.
"What do you want to offer?"
Probably because Ranon just wrapped up his previous meeting, his demeanor was still the same. He talked in a businesslike tone of voice, very formal.
"It’s very simple," Hazel said. "Based on our last conversation, I am going to help you find out who wanted one of the Leighton family dead."
"What do you want in return?"
Hazel had thought about this. "I want half the shares of my family’s company."
"That’s something that I can’t help you with. That’s your family problem." Ranon sipped his coffee. He could help expand her family’s business or cause some trouble to their company. But regarding the shares, it was something that Hazel had to work on on her own.
"I know that," Hazel said. "I only need you to have my back."
"To what extent?"
"Help me with your connections and money." Hazel was being blunt here; her line of work didn’t allow her to beat around the bush and waste time.
Ranon could walk away from here and call it a day, but this woman caught his attention more and more. "With money, I can buy that information. I don’t need to bother myself to help you." He then added. "I don’t even know you. You could be a bother for me in the future for all I care."
"Are you this confident to be able to buy this information with your money? You don’t even manage to figure out about me." Hazel knew this man before him must have been digging more and more information about Hazel.
What a waste of time. They wouldn’t find anything unusual related to Hazel.
To her surprise, Ranon nodded and admitted that. "You are right. I couldn’t find any unusual information about you."
Hazel leaned her body against the backrest of her chair and crossed her arms. This was the reason why she didn’t like to have a conversation with a businessman; they could be very unpredictable.
"Now, tell me which Leighton is going to die?"
"I don’t know."
Ranon frowned. "You don’t know? So, what is the point of this meeting?"
"I said I would figure this out, but one thing I can tell you is somebody has hired the Lozen family to do the job."
The Lozen family. It definitely rang a bell in Ranon’s head. "The man that I interrogated, the one that your brother sent to capture us after that night, came from the Lozen family."
This was news for Hazel. "How do you know that?"
"The Daisy tattoo on his left shoulder."
Hearing that, Hazel chuckled, which made Ranon furrow his brows. He didn’t like to be laughed at, but the sound of her laughter was refreshing to hear.
"What’s so funny?"
"They are not the Lozen family." Hazel shrugged her shoulders. "Well, you can say they are the lowest grade of assassins that the Lozen family trained. How can a well-known family of assassins have a mark on their body that is easily recognized? We worked in silence and were very secretive. There should be no trace."
"’We’?" Ranon caught that.
Hazel froze for a second, but she played it off. "It’s cool to think if I were part of that family, right?"
"A family of assassins?"
"The top one."
Hazel appeared to be praising her former family, but it was her goal to bring that family into shambles, especially those people who had wronged her.
"If you thought your money could buy the information from the Lozen family, well, you are right; there is no point in this meeting. Good luck." Hazel stood up and took her laptop with her; she walked confidently towards the door and closed it behind her.
However, she returned two minutes later.
"Are you not going to hold me back?"
Ranon glanced at her, mirth in his eyes. "You are free to leave if you want to, but if you want to talk business, you need to sit down."
This was why Hazel hated businessmen!
She walked into the room again and put down her laptop, sitting down on her chair. "Let’s talk," she said in a serious manner.
In that meeting, they talked about a few things related to the Lozen family. Hazel disclosed a few secrets that were not actually secrets, since Ranon lived in a different world from her and their line of work was completely different, this kind of information would sound legit.
Ranon looked taken aback with her knowledge about that assassin family.
This conversation lasted for two hours, and once they finished, Hazel was the one who was going to leave first.
"You know my email address; contact me once you find the place that I described."
"Okay." Ranon nodded. It was so rare to see him being easily agreeable.
"Okay then, I will take my leave. I will keep you updated with my search." Hazel then went away. Unfortunately, she still had to go back to that damn house.
However, as if her luck had run out, Hazel had to encounter Aubrey and Arlo again on her way out. She hated herself because she simply froze in her place and stared at them.
She remembered vividly about that night, the pain in her chest when the bullet pierced through her body and the cold river that suffocated her.
Hazel had this flashback, and her reaction was standing there, as still as a statue, glaring at them, until Aubrey snapped her back to reality.
"Do we know you? Why do you keep staring at us?" Aubrey approached her and asked with her high-pitched voice that irritated her ears.
