Chapter 15: IMMORAL ACT

There was this flicker of killing intent fleeting in Hazel’s eyes; her brown eyes looked darker than usual, and Arlo noticed that. He immediately stepped in between Aubrey and this strange woman.

"Do we know you, Miss?" Arlo asked politely; he tried to remember who she was, but he was sure they had never had any encounters before this.

However, he couldn’t be mistaken with the sight of the killing intent in her eyes.

On the other hand, Aubrey was too preoccupied with the thought of some random woman fancying her man. She just got rid of her half-sister to get Arlo for herself; there was no way she would let go of this unacceptable behavior.

"No, we don’t." Hazel avoided Arlo’s gaze. Her anger was out of control; if she had to see the two of them so close, she could stab them if she had a knife... a gun would be nice too.

Arlo didn’t say much; he was not interested in being close to this mysterious woman. She appeared delicate, but there was something off about her.

"We need to go now," Arlo said. He took Aubrey’s hand, but his lover didn’t want to drop the matter. This was the second time she caught the same woman staring at her man. There must be something...

"Are you sure you don’t know him?" Aubrey started. "There is no way you don’t know the Barlowe family from Aspen City."

"No. I don’t. Are they famous?" Hazel kept a straight face. She knew Aubrey really well; this reaction would only upset her even more.

"Don’t try to act like a fool!" Aubrey gritted her teeth.

"Aubrey, let’s go!" Arlo said sternly.

Hazel wanted to laugh because the way Arlo spoke to Aubrey reminded her of when he commanded his dog to behave. This man had never talked to her like that; he usually used that tone to talk to his subordinate.

However, before Hazel could speak, someone had put his arm around her shoulder, startling her. She turned around in defense, but when she saw it was Ranon, her rigid expression became confused.

"Thank you for waiting for me," Ranon said with his deep voice.

Hm? Hazel didn’t remember that he told her to wait. But she played along. "It’s okay. I know you are busy."

Hazel glanced at Arlo and Aubrey; she caught the look on their faces. There was still a possibility for people not to know about the Barlowe family or the Lozen family, since their names were not famous in public, but it was impossible not to know Ranon Leighton.

You must be Patrick, living under a rock, if you didn’t know this man.

Ah!

She could rub it in their ugly faces.

"I don’t know your man, Miss, but I am sure you know the Leighton family." Hazel smiled innocently. "I think this is a misunderstanding. I was waiting for my partner; there is no way I will eye someone else’s man; that’s very immoral."

After saying that, Hazel took Ranon’s hand, and they walked away from there.

"Thank you," Hazel said when they were out of their earshot.

"Arlo Barlowe from Aspen City. Do you know them?"

Hazel halted. "No." She shrugged her shoulders. "I don’t know them." She then asked for one more favor. "I will stay with you until they leave, okay?"

Ranon looked at her and then took her hand. "I will take you home."

Behind them, Arlo was still staring at their retreating back, while Aubrey looked upset because she felt humiliated. Somehow, that woman’s last word irked her.

"Arlo..."

"I told you to drop it off."

Arlo stopped staring at that woman; it was hard to finally avert his gaze from her. He felt familiar, but at the same time, he was sure he had never seen her.

"What? Are you angry at me?" Aubrey followed Arlo to the car. This man didn’t open the door for her and started the engine even before she sat down in the seat and started driving when she had not yet properly put her seatbelt on.

"You embarrassed me."

"How can I embarrass you? I thought she was someone that you knew!" Aubrey was fighting back her tears.

Arlo glanced at her incredulously. "What do you have in mind?"

Aubrey didn’t want to admit this, but she couldn’t hold back her tongue. "For a second, I thought you cheated on me."

Arlo pulled over the car, and thankfully the road was not crowded, so it wouldn’t harm anyone with this sudden maneuver.

"What did you say?" Arlo was still level-headed enough to remember that he was driving and he could harm them both.

Aubrey gritted her teeth. "You cheated on my sister with me; there is a possibility that you will cheat on me with someone else too."

Arlo looked livid, and Aubrey was taken aback; she had never seen him this angry before. Thus, she tried to solve the situation by taking back what she said, but the harm had been done, and Arlo was enraged with the accusation.

"Where are you going?!" Aubrey was startled when Arlo got out of the car and dialed someone’s number on his phone. She followed him out too. "Let’s go back, okay? I am sorry; I didn’t mean what I said. I have been on edge because Father is very livid right now, and I am afraid of his wrath if he finds out about River."

The mention of River’s name only made Arlo even madder. "You take the car; one of my men is nearby."

"What? No!" Aubrey was startled. "How can you let me drive back alone three cities from here?! You took me here; you have to take me back home too!" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Yet, no matter how Aubrey pleaded with him and how she tried to change his mind, Arlo was steadfast with his decision, and when his man came, he told him to drive Aubrey back to Aspen City, since she had been complaining that she didn’t want to drive the car alone.
