Chapter 48: NO CLASS OR MANNERS

"Fuck you, Arlo!" Michael grumbled as he took his brother to his bedroom. The problem was: his bedroom was on the second floor, and he had to drag his brother, whose body was bigger and taller than his, to climb the stairs. "Oh, fuck! Come on! Walk! We are going to fall if you are like this! Why don’t you have anyone in your home?!"

Michael couldn’t stop cursing as he finally managed to reach the top stairs and dragged him to his bedroom, while Arlo was mumbling something under his breath; but mostly, he was unconscious. Too drunk to string a comprehensible word.

"Fuck you, Arlo! Can you be heavier than this?! I feel like I have done ten rounds of gym!" Michael stretched his body and threw a blanket over Arlo’s body; he was not going to be affectionate and tuck his brother in.

He was already being ’affectionate’ enough not to throw him from the stairs.

However, before he left the room, he heard Arlo mumble something, but this time, his voice was a little bit clearer.

Out of curiosity, Michael came over and leaned his body close enough to put his ear near his mouth to listen to what he said because he heard Arlo mention River’s name.

He knew that his brother loved River, and Aubrey was only a distraction. Arlo was being an idiot not to be able to see that. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"I am sorry..." Arlo whimpered. "I shouldn’t have let her kill you... I am sorry, Riv."

Michael widened his eyes and straightened his back almost immediately. "Wh— WHAT? WHAT THE HELL, ARLO?!"

He tried to make his brother say it again or even got another word from him, but he had already fallen asleep.

Was that only a drunk confession? Was that even a confession?

Michael knew that River had disappeared and no one could find her until now, but just like other people, they only assumed she was very good at hiding herself. She was the Lozen family’s asset after all. The best in the field.

But what did Arlo say?

Two days after Hazel and Ranon were spotted in the Coinesance Hotel, the media was filled with their pictures together, and the assumption was wild.

But one thing that stood out the most was the wedding would happen soon. From the look of it, Ranon’s PR must have directed the news, so when the wedding did happen, it didn’t feel too sudden, as they indeed rushed things.

Hazel was currently close to three months. She would start showing.

And thanks to the wild news, Hazel had a hard time on her campus. People looked at her, stared at her, as if they wanted to approach her and interview her themselves. But Yara was there to accompany her, and Nolu’s presence was enough to make them back off.

This man looked like he had a permanent scowl on his face as if he was going to eat them for an extra protein.

Thankfully, the semester would end soon, and Hazel had asked for a break for two semesters, in which she didn’t think she would come back.

"Someone is looking for you there."

A girl with a pixie cut approached Hazel; she pointed at a woman who was standing outside her sports car at the side of the road. Even from afar, Hazel could tell who that was, and she didn’t have any interest in talking to her.

"Thanks." Hazel smiled at the cute young girl, but she turned around and walked towards a different direction with Yara following closely. After the news, Yara and Nolu didn’t even hide their identity as they were there for Hazel. "Can you tell Nolu to meet me at the east gate?" Hazel asked.

"That’s Laurel Leighton, right? Don’t you want to see her?"

"She is the last creature that I want to see before I have my lunch."

Yara laughed at that comment; she didn’t voice out her opinion, but she had been with the Leighton family long enough to know that Laurel Leighton was a nightmare to deal with.

However, Hazel’s wish didn’t come true, because apparently, Laurel saw Hazel walk away from her as a challenge. She actually walked so fast in her high heels and caught up with them.

"You are being disrespectful," Laurel hissed. She towered above Hazel in her high heels, and this caught everyone’s attention.

Some of them knew Laurel Leighton, but some of them were simply curious who this pretty woman in the red dress and the white scarf who talked to Hazel was.

Laurel was smiling when she hissed at her, trying to maintain her image in public. Probably realized that her angry face was not really photogenic and pleasant to the eyes.

"Hi, Laurel," Hazel greeted her casually. If she were River, she was only a few years younger than Laurel; but because Hazel was way younger, it almost felt like Laurel was her aunt.

Laurel wanted to make a snarky remark with the way Hazel greeted her, but then she calmed herself down. "I want you to come with me. There is something that I need to talk with you about."

"I have homework."

"You are not in elementary school."

Hazel frowned. "Why? College students can’t have homework?" She tilted her head. "Did Ranon know that you came to my campus? He will be very pissed if he learns about this."

"I don’t want to make a scene here, so work with me." Laurel looked around at the other students who stopped walking and watched them, waiting for the drama to unfold. "Come and have lunch with me."

In no time, they became the center of attention.

"Fine. But I want to eat lamb chop in the Imperial Restaurant," Hazel shamelessly voiced out her preference. "I am craving their lamb chop," she said in a low voice.

Laurel couldn’t believe that she would have this woman as her sister-in-law; she didn’t have any class or manners.

"Follow me," Laurel said, but he told Yara to leave behind.
