Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 49: CRINGEY CONFESSION
Chapter 49: CRINGEY CONFESSION
"Are you a pig?" Laurel furrowed her brows when she saw how Hazel was eating two portions of lamb chop, which was cooked perfectly, because she was pregnant.
"I am pregnant, remember? I eat for two, and I don’t appreciate the name-calling," Hazel replied.
She drank her mineral water and put it down a little bit harshly; for a split second, Laurel could see a murderous intention in Hazel’s eyes, but it disappeared almost immediately, making her question what she saw.
"What is your end game? What do you want with Ranon?" Laurel didn’t beat around the bush. She was beautiful, and today she dyed her hair in blue color, which not many people could pull off but she did, and it looked perfect on her.
"I am serious with him." Hazel could lie through her teeth with no problem at all. She could be very convincing when she wanted to.
"Don’t try to lie to me."
"Why should I lie?" Hazel tilted her head. "Do you really think I want to be with him for money or fame? I know the Leighton family is one of the affluent families in this city, and so is mine. Without Ranon, I can live comfortably and fame has never been my thing. I have never been interested in appearing in public even though my father and brothers are well known in their respective industries."
Hazel needed to thank the original Hazel for keeping it low-key, and Laurel couldn’t dig deeper into her real motivation; even Ranon didn’t have any idea about it.
"I want to be with Ranon because I love him. I love him not because of his money or his fame. I love him for who he is as a person. I love him even if he were not a part of the Leighton family. Something about him feels so right, and we are right for each other. Have you ever fallen in love? If you had, you would know how strong my feelings for Ranon are. He is the best man that I have ever been with, and I would never find this kind of love in someone else."
Hazel wanted to pat her shoulder for being able to pull off such a cheesy speech. She really needed to read more romance books after this to enrich her imagination.
However, Laurel didn’t seem to appreciate her confession; the corner of her lips twitched as if she was very grossed out by what she had just heard; she cringed. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"Your baby trapped him." Laurel didn’t want to back down just yet. She pointed out the next thing that Hazel had predicted.
"This baby?" Hazel touched her bulging stomach, not because of the fact she started showing but because she was full with two portions of lamb chop. "This is the symbol of our love, the symbol of our dedication, and the commitment for each other. The baby is the proof of it." Hazel then looked at Laurel closely. "Do you really think someone as smart as Ranon could be forced to do something that he didn’t want to do?"
Hazel was sure that Laurel would start vomiting with the sweet and cringy words that she just blurted out, but there was the truth there.
Ranon was not the type of person who you could force to do something, and this shut Laurel up.
Today was the day of the result for her DNA test. She didn’t want to come because she already knew what the result would be, but Laurel insisted, and she told her that was the reason why she came to pick her up from her campus.
[Your sister is insane. She is here to pick me up from the campus, and now we are going to go to your family’s house.]
Hazel sent a message to Ranon, to which he replied almost immediately.
[I thought you enjoyed your lamb chops.]
Seeing the reply, Hazel scrunched her nose. Of course, he knew!
[Well, the lamb chop is the compensation for my inconvenience.]
[You meant lamb chops.]
Yeah. Right. He knew how many portions she got for her lunch.
[Come with her; I will be at home.]
Hazel didn’t mind being at his house alone, but when she thought about it again, there was no harm in having him there too.
Currently, they were walking towards the parking lot. Yara followed behind them while Nolu got their car, but suddenly Laurel stopped walking, and she stared at the distance.
"What happened? Someone you know?" Hazel followed her line of sight and saw what she was seeing; it was a young man with a woman around Laurel’s age. "Do you know them?"
"My stepson," Laurel said curtly.
"Oh." Hazel felt awkward because Laurel was still standing next to her car, but she had not yet opened the car lock. It was so hot out here, and Hazel wanted to immediately go inside the car and enjoy the air conditioning. "Do you want to go to them?"
"No. He is with his biological mother."
Hazel used her hands to cover her eyes from the bright sunlight. "Please, do whatever you want to do, but open the car lock. I am half-cooked here. I have turned medium well now."
Laurel gave her a nasty look and thought of Hazel as someone who was very dramatic. She then decided to open the lock and enter the car. The engine revved, and they drove away.
After that, Hazel didn’t think much of it, but later on, as there was only silence inside the car, she noticed that Laurel looked bothered with what she was seeing.
Yet, Hazel didn’t have the desire to find out why. The stepson was probably around the age of sixteen to eighteen; he was the only son of Laurel’s husband from his first marriage.
But, aside from that, Hazel didn’t know much, nor did she want to know.
And once they arrived at the Leighton family’s house. Ranon had been waiting for her; he was the one who opened the car door for Hazel.
"Thank you!" Hazel said cheerfully and pecked his lips.
