Unwritten Desires-Chapter 30
Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Eleanor
"Dori? You say you’re okay but you don’t look fine. Tell me what’s wrong?" Sofia’s eyes flickered between mine as she slowly closed the distance between us like I was going to run off at any sudden sound.
"Um..." I swallowed as I scoured through my mind for a good reply. Just when I was about to say something I noticed a shadow stretching over me and without thinking I turned and my head slammed into a warm body.
I looked up to find Liam looking down at me with a worried look. "Are you okay?" He said and every bit of fear and unease coursing through me disappeared and was immediately replaced with rage.
I hadn’t even gotten back at him for that nonsense he pulled earlier and now he was touching me again. Who knows...he might even be behind this stupid threat note and just feigning ignorance.
But then again...if he was behind this, how did he know and why hasn’t he used this to blackmail me yet so we could call it even?
I shot him a death glare and a wicked glint flashed in his eyes but since he was looking down at me so only I could see his face.
I should’ve said a word or two to the author of this stupid novel. Who on earth makes their male lead so...so disgusting? What even happened to golden retriever boy or sweet nerdy male leads? Everyone didn’t have to be an arrogant, grumpy, sly, leather-jacket-wearing psychopath who somehow grew soft for the female lead you know.
And apparently this one wasn’t getting soft anytime soon. I doubt he was ever going to listen to a word I say. I tried to push him off me but his grip tightened around my arms and it took everything I had not to scream as he sank his nails into my skin.
"What’s the matter babe? Why aren’t you saying anything?"
He was a good actor. I’ll give him that but most times it wasn’t in my favor so, yes I hated him for it.
"It’s nothing." I flashed him a smile, still trying to push him off. Seeing that I wasn’t going to tell him anything, he shifted his gaze to Sofia who was still standing behind me.
"Umm...I don’t know why but she has a habit of keeping things to herself and not telling me when she has problems." He spoke to her so naturally like he wasn’t tearing my skin apart with the viscous claws that he called fingers. "...I mean I always tell her that she can trust me and how this relationship wouldn’t be able to work if we can trust each other."
"Yeah...sometimes she can be a bit distant." I heard Sofia say.
"I’m right here you know." I spoke through bared teeth.
"I know Dori." She chuckled and I felt my eyes twitch when she started assuring Liam and telling him that it wasn’t anything too serious and how we just found a note in my locker and it was only then that he let go of me.
He was very lucky I wasn’t putting on a sleeveless shirt. If not then he’d have to explain to Sofia why they were pressure marks on my hand.
"What did the note say?"
And we’re back to this. Great.
For someone who wasn’t my real boyfriend he seemed really concerned about the contents of the note and yes I could tell he wasn’t acting and he was genuinely concerned.
I mean...it was written all over him.
"You guys need to relax. It’s just Naomi being Naomi, but this time she happened to bring up something personal and I don’t want to talk about it. But I promise I’m fine okay." I smiled hoping they both bought my lie. "And also...please don’t talk to Naomi about it, if you do she’s going to think she got to me and the last thing I want is for her to think that." I added just in case Sofia was thinking of confronting Naomi about this.
"Now if you’ll excuse us..." I turned to Liam who looked like he was still analyzing my words. "...we were planning to go chill for a bit in the courtyard. Bye darling." I purred before blowing him a small kiss as I pulled Sofia along with me.
Yeah...he didn’t look quite too happy about it.
Which made me even more happier.
There were chances that Liam didn’t believe a word I said, but at least if he was going to confront me about it he was going to wait till we were alone before he said anything and that was more than enough time for me to come up with a more believable story for him.
And now for the real problem...
Who sent the note and how did they find out that I wasn’t the real Theadora?
~~~~~~~~~~
"No, that’s not it." The frustration simmered beneath my skin as I shoved my face into the pillow, letting out a muffled groan.
This didn’t make sense. No matter how many times I went over it, I kept circling back to the same person.
I mean it had to be him. Who else could it be?
I sat up adjusting my position on the bed so I was sitting cross-legged right in front of the crumpled piece of paper I placed on my bed.
Jake was Theadora’s ex after all. Her buddy buddy or whatever it was called.
Well, that is before I broke up with him.
If anyone would notice something was off about me, it should be him. But then again...Sofia was also Theadora’s best friend which meant she was also a suspect.
I mean she could have just had it planned out that she was right there so I wouldn’t suspect her and maybe so she could also see my reaction to the note.
My chest tightened as it slowly started adding up.
But then if it was Sofia how did she find out?
Theadora and I looked and sounded exactly the same. My mannerisms were different yeah and my habits had changed, but that wasn’t enough for someone to just guess the impossible.
A chill crawled down my spine as different thoughts started running through my head.
Was it possible that she knew about the book? But she was a character in the book so it was clearly impossible for her to find out about the book.
Unless....
My heart skipped a beat as realization creeped in.
Was...Sofia also reincarnated?
No.
No, no, no.
"I’m thinking way too much." I shook my head as I shifted away from the paper.
Sofia’s not the only suspect. She’s way too daft to come up with things like this.
"She could be faking it, you know." A thought ran through my head.
Could it really be Sofia? I mean it could be that the reason she’s playing her character so well is because she’s been in this world way longer than I have...and maybe now she wants to confirm if the same thing is happening to other characters.
Maybe she also read the book and knows she’s supposed to end up with Liam and I was supposed to die and now that everything’s not going according to plan and I didn’t die, she started suspecting me.
"Argh!!!" I flopped back onto my bed screaming into the pillow I placed over my face. I then exhaled sharply as I pushed the pillow away, staring up at the ceiling as a sinking realization settled in my chest.
I was running out of suspects. What was I going to...
"Thea...someone’s here to see you!" Brianna’s voice rang out from the other side of my door, startling me.
"Wh...what?" I stuttered, not quite sure of what I heard just now. I then pushed myself off the bed and quickly put on my slippers. "What did you say?" I cocked my head questioning Brianna as I opened the door.
"A friend of yours is at the door. He says he’s come to see you." Brianna said hurriedly before turning back to her phone and putting on her ear plugs.
"A guy who’s come to see me? Brianna wait." I tried to stop her but before the words could leave my mouth she was already running towards the stairs.
She must have been watching one of those her stupid YouTube videos on her phone.
"Ugh!" I groaned out. Who could it be now?
Jake was obviously mad at me so there was no way he would’ve showed up and if he did Brianna would be all giddy about it right?
Mum was probably in the kitchen and Dad was still at work. I didn’t bother worrying about where Elvis was since he was a grown up...well sort of. I’m sure he was probably at one of his friends’ houses since mum and dad wouldn’t let him have his own apartment but with the way I was seeing it, he’d probably be out of here in a couple of months.
I glanced at Brianna who was lying on the couch with both feet kicking lazily in the air and her eyes glued to her phone.
I sighed. That girl never took her eyes off that thing.
I turned back to the door and my mind drifted back to my previous thoughts and it wasn’t until I was a few steps away from the door that it dawned on me.
Liam.
No...he didn’t know where I lived.
Yes Jake and I bumped into him that day but that was only because he was going to the arcade. He didn’t know I was living around this area.
My throat bobbed with a hard swallow as I let out a shaky breath and walked closer to the door and peeked through the peephole and the second I saw who it was on the other side, the blood drained from my face.
Crap.
