Chapter 31: Chapter 31

Eleanor

Okay, I had two options.

I could have Brianna tell him that I wasn’t home and he’s just one of my stupid batch mates that has been bugging me for the past few days or I could just make Brianna tell him that I was sleeping and he should just wait till he sees me in school again since I hated being disturbed when I was sleeping.

Apparently she was in the middle of watching her YouTube videos so she’d do anything that’ll make me not bug her.

Still...answering that door wasn’t one of my options so I most definitely wasn’t going to do that. But come to think of it...how did he know where I was living? Was he stalking me now?

Suddenly the doorbell rang again and I shuddered involuntarily.

"Argh Thea answer the damn door so that person can stop ringing the doorbell." Brianna whined as she got up from the couch and marched up the stairs.

"Ugh traitor." I hissed even though I knew she was not even aware of what was happening.

I then let out a long sigh as I turned to the door. I guess I had no other choice than to open it. It would be way worse if Mum comes out from the kitchen. I couldn’t hide the fact that Thea had a boyfriend from the school but I could hide it from her family.

I was certain Brianna would’ve figured it out already if she wasn’t so engrossed in whatever she was watching. I reached for the door handle with a small sigh before pulling it open and just before Liam could say anything, I rushed outside, closing the door behind me.

"Have you gone mad?" I muttered out sharply. "What the heck are you doing at my house and who gave you my address? What even happened to phones?" I stared at him wide eyed and that was when I remembered that we didn’t have each other’s numbers.

Well that was definitely his fault not mine.

A shadow of irritation flickered across his face and he pulled out his phone from his pocket before shoving it in my face. "I called but apparently you refused to pick up."

My brows dipped in confusion as I processed his words. "Give me that." I snatched the phone from him confirming if the number I was seeing was mine as it wasn’t saved and I had left my phone in my room upstairs.

I narrowed my eyes as I stared at the phone in disbelief. I didn’t remember giving him my number so how...

"What...how did you get my number?" I hadn’t even finished my question before he yanked the phone out of my hand.

"That’s personal." He said casually as he slid the phone back into his pocket.

"W...Personal?? It’s my freaking number."

Boy did this guy know how to get on my nerves.

"What was in that note?"

Ugh of course. That was why he was here.

"It’s personal." I smiled, my tone laced with mockery as I crossed my arms over my chest. "And now you know that so there’s no need for you to be..."

"Thea...are you there?" Mum’s voice came from the other side of the door and my heart lurched with panic. Before I could think of something or even react, the door swung open. "Oh...you have a guest." She said sizing Liam up. "A new face at that." She arched her brow.

Mrs. Roberts was a very skeptical person, yes she was sweet with her kids but when it came to outsiders...as in people that she had never seen before...

Well...let’s just say she had huge trust issues.

"It’s cool mum, he’s just one of my friends from school...um like Jake and Sophia. He just doesn’t like visiting people’s houses and only does it when it’s important." I flashed her a warm smile and her gaze lingered on him for a little bit before she smiled.

"Then why is he still standing there honey?"

"What?" I blinked rapidly.

"Why didn’t you offer him to come in?" She asked, holding the door wide open.

"Um no mum. Seriously it’s nothing serious, in fact he was just..."

"Thank you for the kind offer Mrs Roberts." Liam cut me off, speaking with a deceptively kind smile that made my eye twitch. "I mean Thea and I were so busy chatting that we even forgot to go inside."

Just look at the way he was lying to her so casually. He even had the guts to use my nickname. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Well I guess for that to happen she really likes your company." She quipped amusement dancing in her eyes.

What???

I thought she was skeptical a moment ago. Why is she smiling with him now? And worse, she’s letting him into the house???

"Oh really..." he turned to me with that stupid smile still plastered on his lips. "...well that’s good to know."

"Mhmm." I pressed my lips together forming a smile that didn’t reach my eyes. Why did he enjoy frustrating me so much?

The only thing I did was make him help me...and if he just helped me the first time I asked, I wouldn’t have needed to blackmail him. This was his fault not mine...so then why was I the one suffering?

I was still trying to come up with a solid excuse to get him out of here, when Mum gestured for us to come in.

"Well, don’t just stand there, darling. Come in."

And of course Liam didn’t need to be told twice. He stepped inside like he owned the place, flashing me an infuriating smirk. I clenched my jaw, debating whether slamming the door in his face would be worth getting scolded for.

I knew it. I should’ve just stayed in my room.

Mum shut the door behind us and turned to Liam still maintaining her smile.

"So, what exactly is so important that you came all the way here?" She questioned.

I opened my mouth, ready to say absolutely nothing, but Liam was faster.

"It’s about a group project," he lied smoothly. "Thea and I are partners, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to come to school today and she hasn’t been responding to my messages. The deadline is coming up and I wouldn’t want us to fail."

I nearly choked. Group project?? The fuck??

Mum narrowed her eyes. "Thea, is that true?"

I wanted to scream No! but if I denied it outright, Mum would start questioning why he was really here, and knowing her, she’d assume the worst. I could already hear the lecture about how I shouldn’t be with boys or whatever it was that parents liked to believe these days.

So, I forced a stiff smile. "Um...yeah. I just...uh, forgot."

Liam hummed like he was deeply concerned. "Right. Forgot. And ignored all my calls."

I shot him a glare to keep that stupid mouth of his shut.

Mum sighed. "Well, if it’s school-related, then I guess it’s important. You two can work in the living room."

Yes! Living room! Where I can keep him as far away from my personal space as possible.

But unfortunately for me Liam had other plans.

"Actually, I’d prefer somewhere else," he said. "We have a lot to go over, and I wouldn’t want Thea to be distracted or for us to be a distraction to anyone else in the house."

Mum nodded, completely falling for his act.

Oh no.

"You’re right. My other daughter Brianna always loves to bother her sister, plus I think it’s almost time for one of her TV shows." She said, glancing at the wall clock and my heart dropped.

No, don’t say it.

"You two can use Thea’s room."

And she said it. God...nothing was going my way today.

I turned towards Mum, "What? No. That’s not..."

"Oh, come on, honey. It’s just a study session," she dismissed. "Besides, you’ll be more productive up there."

Productive at what? There was no freaking project!

I think I was going to crash out now.

I didn’t bother turning to Liam because I knew it would only make me even more frustrated so I just headed towards the stairs.

"Sounds perfect," I overheard him and Mum exchanging a few words before he started walking behind me.

Thankfully I had hid the note between the books on my shelves before leaving my room so I didn’t need to worry about Liam finding it.

I hope.

"You must be really good at tricking people for you to make my mum like you." I said as I pushed my room door open.

"I didn’t come up here to chat." He eyed me warily.

"Oh right." I turned towards my bedside table where I laid my phone. "Our group project." My voice was heavy with sarcasm as I picked up my phone and walked to my dressing table. "Just give me a minute and I’ll be..."

I wasn’t even able to finish my sentence before I was interrupted by a soft thud and before I could realize that it was the sound of my door closing, Liam was already towering over me with his hand gripping my shirt. "Stop playing dumb four eyes. What was on that note?"

"You’re gripping my shirt!" I snarled as I tried to loosen his grip.

"Do I look like I care? I asked you a question in the nicest way I could and you chose not to answer. Now I have to do it the hard way..." he hissed through clenched teeth as his grip on my shirt tightened, cutting off my air.

"I told you...it’s personal." I choked out as I struggled to breathe. "Why don’t you fucking understand?? It has nothing to do with you so there’s no need to worry about it."

"Everything isn’t about you Alex. Just because I know your secret doesn’t mean you need to stalk me and know everything that’s going on in my life. Why don’t you just understand that?"

"You fucking brat! I told you not to call me by that..." he halted abruptly, his eyes flickering to the ringing phone in my hand.

My brows furrowed when I registered the name on the screen.

Jake??

I thought he was mad at me? Why was he calling me now?
