Chapter 25 - 25: Knowledge is Power II
- - -
"Recently, strange instances as been occurring around the state. A gas leaked occurred which was quickly detected and resolved. Sadly, people of the area are reacting violently to it. Even going as far as to attack one another. Officials say that it's an onslaught and immediate response is needed. They further said that the people of Linton County are not in the mood to talk things out and are acting and I quote 'Like ravaging dogs'. We have reporter Lenard on the other side live. Please Lenard, give us insight to the situation on your end." On an old, bulky TV with a thick frame and a scratched-up plastic casing, the news was on. A female newscaster spoke and she signaled to the reporter to speak.
"Thanks, Mary. Here at Linton Carnival we have Special Force Squad Commander, Regant, here with us. Please give us an update of the situation." Lenard, who was in a blue shirt and black and white striped tie, said bringing a mic to a man. The camera shift to show the face of the man. He was in a police uniform, with a badge on it. The badge read:
Commander Regant Johnson
Special Force of Linton County
The man was jacked and had a large stature. Around 187cm height and he was fairly pale person. He looked like someone who didn't get enough sleep.
"We are trying to suppress the issue as much as possible so don't worry, we have everything all-" a growling sound boomed from behind. As if on instinct, the commander pulled out a gun and spun around to face the threat.
Ruff! Ruff!
It was just a dog barking. "Phew!" The commander breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sorry, I have just been on the edge lately—" as the commander was speaking, the screen just cut off.
"It seems there are some technical difficulties. We will continue that discussion later. Unto another story..." the newscaster change topics.
"That's how the government is... always trying to hide something from us." a guy sitting on a sofa said.
"Kenny, where's the size 12 spanner."
He heard a voice shout from below.
"She's at it again. I don't even know why I bother with this *****. If not for the fact that he entrusted her to me, you wouldn't catch me dead with her." the guy, supposedly Kenny said. He stood up and walked to the kitchen and started making himself a sandwich.
The source of this c𝐨ntent is freёnovelkiss.com.
"Kenny, I'm talking to you!" the voice resounded again. A little louder this time.
"Kenwi, I'm tawking to wou." he mimicked taking a bite into the sandwich.
Buzz! Buzz!
Unbeknownst to him, a weird type of fly entered his sandwich and he ate it with the sandwich. The fly was completely dark and it's features wasn't quite clear enough to make out."Delicious"
He walked to a shelf, took a bunch of keys in a ring and a spanner.
"I know you heard me, Kenny. Bring that spanner, or I'll turn you into one right now, you ungrateful son of a gun." The voice shouted again, seemingly more annoyed and louder.
Kenny walked down a stairs leading to a steel door, his footsteps echoing through the narrow way. He reaches the steel door.
"I'm coming, woman!" he shouts back. 'The disrespect from this *****. After all the years I have helped you. Even though you pay the rent and put food on the table, I doubt you could have done it without me there. Without me consoling you, without me holding you back. Without me stopping you. Without me removing your obstacles. You are the one who is ungrateful. You are the one!!' He shouted in his mind.
Clink-clink!
He opens the door and walked through. Turning around, he locked the door behind him and stuff the key into his pants, his pocket to be precise.
He tossed the spanner towards a young woman in a typical mechanic cloth.
Catching it, she gives him a hard look and continued working on the car.
Bou!
The bonnet of the car popped open a and she fiddled with something's inside.
'She is still working on this piece of junk. I should have burned it when I had the chance. Maybe I should have asked him to burn it after he was done with that *******.' he thought annoyed.
"When will you get over this strange obsession? Look at this place— just junks and chunks," Kenny said with a raise of his eyebrows.
"Not an obsession, it's a—" she tried to reply, but Kenny was already expecting it.
"Habit" he interrupted. "I get it. You've said that like a thousand times. You could be employed at a business consulting agency for motors—you have a PhD in—"
"I don't want to have this conversation again. Leave me to my devices," she got on those creepers mechanics use to get under a car and slid under the car she was working on.
'You aren't fooling me. Not in a million years, you're not.' Kenny thought.
"May, I can't watch you waste your life away because of some boy." he shouted.
"Do you want to end up like your mom?"
Silence
'I said too much. I must have struck a chord. What's wrong with me? Why would I mention her dead mother.' Kenny was frustrated.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have—" he said wanting to apologize.
"Get out!"
May voice came out swift and direct. Her eyes darkened under the car while gripping the spanner tighter.
"May, just stop. Even a little rest won't hurt. Aren't you tired of this? Just go on a vacation or something," he said trying to convince her to at least rest. This was her routine everyday and she would normally work to late midnight until she is worn out.
"A little sleep, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man," she said. She then begin to hit the spanner on something. As if to say: 'Why are you still here?'
"Alright, I'll go, but—" before he could utter another word, his eyes met with something. Something he couldn't quite make sense of. When he looked closely, a feeling of dread filled his body. He was so scared that he couldn't move. 'Jacob, I just sent someone to kill you, right? What in the world happened'
"What's up?" May asks as she slid out from under the car. Tracing his sight, he saw him looking at a figure running towards the garage door.
"T-that's J-Jacob," her voice cracked. She began to cry after recognizing him. . She ran toward the garage door. She was trying to meet him.
She halted in her tracks. 'Did she see something? Well she is farther away from the door than me so I doubt it.'
"Shut the door!" She exclaimed.
"W-Why?" He stammered. 'I thought she would want to meet with him'
