Vampire's Blood Ascension-Chapter 21: Instant Mission
While they were returning to the sanctuary city, all their halobands began buzzing loudly.
They instantly checked what was going on.
———
Mission #1595I
Description: [Assist S.C. 08-A in containment and neutralization of a Rank 2 Terror Gate.]
Circle: [Trina Unit.]
Enforcer: [Angelo Terns.]
Duration: [Unknown]
Reward: [To be decided per the merit.]
———
Rudy read the mission and frowned, "Why is the duration unknown?"
"Because it’s an instant mission," John answered with a look too serious for his usual cheerfulness.
Rudy’s brows knit together, and he asked, "What’s an instant mission?"
"Missions that immediately need to be dealt with, it’s unknown because the syndicate didn’t get enough time to do a check on it... which is common for gates that appear within the cities," Ray explained with a sombre expression.
’So it’s within the city...’ Rudy noted in his head.
He clenched his fists and mumbled, "Do we have to assist the irregulars of S.C. 08-A?"
"That’s what the mission implies," Angelo responded. "But most of them are already busy taking care of the other gates, so just assume that you’ll have to do it by yourself."
Rudy nodded, and Trina sent him a message.
[Trina: Don’t do what you did last time.]
He frowned and asked, "What do you mean?"
She looked into his eyes and typed with an expression that said she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
[Trina: Do not go around killing dreadborns without any care. I don’t want you to get hurt.]
Corners of his lips lifted into a smile, and just as he was about to comment, she sent another message.
[Trina: I mean, if you get hurt, others will get hurt as well, so don’t get hurt!!]
"I know, I know," Rudy nodded as he leaned in his seat.
Trina’s eyes stayed on his face before they began to trace lower, just as her gaze landed on his bare chest, her haloband buzzed.
She raised a brow and checked it.
[Ray: Our mission is to kill monsters... not make more of them.]
Her face turned red, she quickly replied to him, and lowered her head.
Tires of the ARO let out a shriek as it came to a halt, and all of them stepped down from it.
Before the gate stood four mechas, and behind them were the bare few deviants of the city.
Circle took out their weapons and walked a few steps closer to the gate.
Seeing the syndicate’s uniform, the other irregulars stepped to the side, and they stopped beside the three-meter-tall humanoid war machines.
Four deviants were piloting the four mechas, and Angelo was the only breaker who was present at the site.
Rudy stared at the gate and thought, ’A rank 2 terror gate has three waves and one gate guardian... the first two waves would be of latent, the third wave of Deviant, and the gate guardian would be a Tainted.’
With a faint crunch, the dark terror gate opened, and stout humanoid dreadborns with dark, bubbling skin, purple, ravenous eyes, standing seven feet tall, and shoddy, blunt weapons stepped out.
Dreadborns let out a wet, wrong shriek. Thick, dark green sticky saliva fell from their pudgy maws, and the mechas moved to deal with them.
Slim mechas cut through the air and appeared beside the dreadborns in a single moment, swung their large blades at them, and severed them into two. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Broad mechas strode forward, the ground shook with each step, and their heavy mace fell onto the dreadborns, instantly crushing them.
’Latent Beasts.’ Rudy stood at his spot and watched everything happen with a calm expression.
Trina nudged him and pointed towards the gate.
Rudy shook his head and said, "Not yet... this is just the first wave, the third wave would be of deviants, we can’t waste our energy on them."
Trina and others nodded, and John stated with a wide grin, "You are a quick learner."
Rudy smiled and examined every single movement of the dreadborns to craft a plan.
About five minutes later, the gate hummed, and more of the similar dreadborns flooded out of it.
’Latent fiends...’
Deviants of the city moved to help the mechas that were already being overwhelmed by the sheer number of the dreadborns, but Trina’s circle didn’t move yet.
City deviants and the mechas worked like a perfect team, yet they still weren’t as fast as them.
Rudy finally came out of his thoughts, and the circle’s haloband buzzed at the same time.
[Trina: We can do this!]
His lips curved upwards, and the gate let out another sinister hum.
Similar dreadborns with darker skin poured out of the gates, and Rudy muttered, "Deviant fiends."
Mechas and deviants of the city focused on them, and a dreadborn crushed one of the irregulars with its crude mace.
Circle dashed forward, Rudy lifted his sword and swung it widely.
Dreadborn let out a shriek as his blade sank into its body, and blood sprayed out, but it failed to kill it in a single attack.
Its mace cracked with a purple glow, and it swung it at him.
’Shit.’ Rudy jumped to the side, narrowly dodging the attack, and thrust forward at the center of Dreadborn’s chest, and due to its size, it was too slow to react.
Rudy’s sword pierced the center of its chest, and its tip protruded out of its back.
"Just die already!" He spat while looking at the other deviant fiends that others were dealing with.
It let out a loud, guttural roar. He threw a punch under its wide maw and a kick to its leg.
Ground shuddered as it crashed down.
Rudy’s sword slid across its neck, its head fell, and blood fountained from it.
Rudy took a few quick breaths, and Final Will’s familiar voice echoed in his head.
[You have slain a Deviant Fiend: Salivor Maw!]
Suddenly, he felt his power increase a little, and Final Will spoke the words he had been waiting for.
[Your blood has grown pure.]
