Vampire's Blood Ascension-Chapter 51: Delicious Fruits
At her words, Rudy’s lips dropped, and confusion gathered around his face. ’Hungry?’
A strange heaviness filled his chest, and he continued his thoughts, ’Why is she being so careless after all that caution?’
’Is it because of everything we’ve been through?’ No matter how much Rudy tried to reason, her recklessness didn’t make any sense to him.
"I am hungry," she repeated.
However, Rudy was already too deep in his spiraling thoughts, and seeing the opportunity, Kalien shot to his feet and declared with a wide grin, "I’ll get those fruits for you, Lady Seraphel."
Sera looked at him with a smile as she spoke softly, "Thanks, Kalien."
Witnessing her beautiful smile, Kalien blinked a few times and said proudly, "It’s nothing. I can do anything for you, my lady."
Sera’s expressions brightened, and she nodded faintly as she stood up on her feet and limped towards the spring.
Rudric watched both with a grim expression as he replayed everything in his mind,
’Until now, Seraphel didn’t take anything from Kalien, and focused solely on reaching the return beacon as soon as possible, but now it is as if she doesn’t care about anything and just wants to rest...’
Rudy placed his hands over his face, covering his mouth and nose as he looked up at the fruits. ’It’s normal for humans to have rest after going through everything we did in the past seven days, and she had been here for longer as well.’
He turned his gaze towards Sera, who was washing her face by the spring, and whispered, "Am I making it too big a deal?"
Meanwhile, Kalien stored his sword in his spatial ring and placed his hands on a palm tree.
He dug his fingers into the tree, and with his strength as a deviant, he placed his foot around it and began to climb it.
As he climbed, he felt his muscles strain, but he continued for the sake of proving himself to Sera.
A few minutes later, Sera finished washing her face and walked closer to the tree that Kalien was climbing with all of his grit.
"You can do this, Kalien!" She cheered, and Kalien looked down at her with a smile as he reached the fruits.
"How far is the return beacon?" Rudy asked while holding onto his right shoulder.
Sera turned towards him and tilted her head as she spoke in a confused tone, "Why does that matter?"
Hearing those words, Rudy’s sense of wrongness became more potent, and his expression turned grim. ’What?’
He forced himself upright and trudged towards her with a dark expression. He growled, "What did you say?"
Sera stumbled backwards, and her back was against the tree as she muttered, "I just want to know why you want to continue putting your life in danger instead of staying here?"
A glamorous smile spread across her face as she widened her hands and spun on her feet.
"Look around yourself, Vlad! We have water, we have food! Why do we need to continue fighting those stupid dreadborns? Why should we do that when we are at the oasis of dreams?"
A shiver ran down Rudy’s spine, his expression turned furious, and he spat while clenching his fist, "What the fu—"
At that moment, Kalien, who had just pulled out a bunch of fruits, cursed under his breath as he slipped and came crashing onto Rudy.
"Ugh!" Kalien groaned as he felt his soul leave his body. He took a shaky breath and rolled away from Rudy while still holding onto the fruits.
Rudy’s vision spun as he stared at the extreme sun, a grave expression on his face, and he thought, ’What is wrong with her...?’
Troubled, Sera looked between the two of them, and after a few seconds of consideration in her mind, she limped towards the fruits.
Seeing her coming towards him, Kalien’s heart filled up with joy, and his lips parted to speak, but all of it vanished the next moment as she knelt beside the fruits and picked one of them with bright eyes.
Kalien’s expression darkened for a moment. He pushed his pain down and mumbled with a forced smile, "G-Go ahead, my lady..."
Sera smiled and nodded as she pushed the fruit closer to her lips and bit down on it.
Bloody-red juice slid down the surface of the fruit as she dug into its flesh and ate it with ecstasy. Her eyes shone with joy, and she ate it like a glutton.
Rudy forced himself to sit up and stared at her in disbelief. For a moment, he felt like, instead of eating a fruit, she was devouring a human head.
Watching her, Kalien’s eyes turned dull for a moment, then he also picked up a fruit and said, "I am hungry."
Unease spread across Rudy, and he concluded darkly, "She is acting strange since we’ve come to this place."
He looked around, and the oasis no longer felt like the paradise or haven it had been when he had first stepped onto the shimmering grass.
All of a sudden, a shadow fell onto him, and he turned towards it.
Before him stood Sera, her face damp with the bloody-red juice of the delicious fruit.
Goosebumps ran across his body, and he shouted, "We have to le—"
However, before he could finish his words, Sera pushed a piece of fruit into his mouth.
Rudy’s eyes widened in horror, the fruit slid down his throat, and he desperately crawled away from her.
"Shit! Shit! Shit! Shit! Shit!" he cursed as he tried to cough out the fruit, but it was already too late.
All of a sudden, his vision twisted, and he no longer found himself in the pale desert; instead, he was at his home, the oasis he had built with his two friends — Seraphel and Kalien.
A wide, beautiful smile spread across his face as he turned his head towards her and said,
"Sera... I feel hungry."
