Chapter 67 - Cliff Hanger

"Rav, we talked about your greatest desire. You want to make amends with someone, right?"

The Ferin nodded. "What's bringing that up?"

"Well, we said we'd work on that on Sunday!" Ezra beamed. "Which means I still have a few days to make someone else's desires come true."

"Aren't you just the most delightful little thing, hm? Such eagerness."

"I've already decided who I'm going to go for next, Rav. I'm going to talk to Cliff."

Rav paused for a second, his face one of complete disbelief. Slowly it changed, and morphed into something else. And then Rav couldn't hold it anymore.

The Ferin burst out into laughter, smacking his leg and kneeling over. Laughing and laughing, nearly to the point of hysteria.

"Ah," Rav finally said, calming himself down. His outburst woke even Oberyn, who now hovered by the door, looking quietly at the duo on the couch.

"Cliff, hm?"

Ezra faltered. His carefully laid plans began to appear fraught with error.

"You can try," Rav frowned. "But I know that old man far too well. He doesn't want to be happy. His top desire will probably be to get you the hell out of his house."

"I can take that," Ezra said, certain. "I used to take care of older folks, you know. Back in...oh, hey, Oby!"

He noticed the Nephilim lingering, silent. The fiery blond's eyes lit up as he was acknowledged.

"Hey, you two," he said happily, trotting over and joining them on the couch.

Oberyn and Ezra distracted themselves from the current conversation, mumbling cute things to each other under their breaths until Rav rudely interrupted.

"This is great and all," he started, desperate to never become a third wheel in anyone's story. "But I'm sure you have an 'ask' in all of this, and I have plans this afternoon. So, out with it, Ezra."

"Can you drop me off at Cliff's house?" Ezra said meekly. "And...pick me up around dinner time?"

Rav slapped his fan to his forehead several times, the rhythmic tapping becoming more agitated with each motion.

"I'm a chauffeur, is that it? Big mighty Sage of the Clouds can fly, so now it's Rav's Transportation Service."

"Well," Ezra said, a smile creeping on his lips. "Yeah, kinda. It takes you what, three minutes?"

Rav drummed his fingers, glancing up to the second story of the pagoda. "Well, yeah..."

"Then it's settled!" Ezra exclaimed, rising from the couch and clapping his hands together. "Is that okay with you, Oby? I'm going to take the day and try to help out with Deek and Cliff."

Oberyn nodded quickly. "Of course. Rav and I will..."

Rav shook his fan at the Nephilim. "Can't today," he said with a pout. "Meeting a Ferret Ferin to ferret around with. Important business."

"Can I join?" Oberyn said quietly. "I..."

"You'll have to ask your human for permission," Rav chuckled. "It'll be a lot more than breathing exercises though."

"Er...what?"

"I can only take one other person with me on my cloud, anyway," Rav reminded them. "Are your wings good to go?"

Oberyn reached toward his back and felt his shoulder blades. There was some lingering soreness - though his body was back to 100%, his wings still needed time to heal.

"If you'd rather I stay, I can," Ezra said.

"N-nono," Oberyn replied, declining the offer. "I'll hold down the fort here. It'll be good for me. I can take my wings out and relax. Let them heal in the sun. Maybe do some reading. Rav, I saw you had quite the collection of books upstairs. Do you mind if I peek through them?"

Ezra smiled. It's cute to imagine his Nephilim, wings out, kicking his feet back in the grass, cozy with a new book.

"What's mine is yours - at least, that's what this arrangement of ours appears to have devolved into. So, Ezra - you ready? I'll bring you to Cliff's house and pick you up as soon as I'm done ferreting the ferret."

Ezra grimaced. "Sure."

"Seems we all have our days planned! Though yours is sure to disappoint, Ezra - just don't say I didn't warn you. Away we go!"

Rav grabbed Ezra by the waist and jumped, landing on a cloud that had already formed above them. He turned to leave Oberyn with one final wink before the two popped out of existence, vanishing far over the horizon.

As they sped away, they plummeted to the ground below, traveling nearly vertically down the side of the mountain. As they reached the tops of the trees, Rav leveled out and they coasted over the vibrant, lush forests of the Ferin lands. He slowed down his flight just slightly so they could enjoy the ride.

"I could never get tired of this view," Ezra smiled, watching the land below whisk by. He was entranced by the forests - a world that appeared untouched by mankind. Just peaceful, idyllic meadows and trees.

"Alcor loved it, too. But when you've flown as high as I have, Ezra...you find that it just makes everything else seem small."

They coasted at a comfortable speed for about ten minutes before arriving at Cliff's house. Rav didn't bother to get off the cloud - he simply pushed Ezra off as they hovered a few feet in the air.

"Tell Deek I said hello, and all that," Rav said, shaking his hand in Ezra's direction. "If you piss Cliff off too much, might I recommend taking a walk a bit south? There's a lovely waterfall there. Great way to pass the time. Ta-ta!"

He whipped away, leaving Ezra standing there alone.

It's a nostalgic view - his first time here, he was carrying Oberyn on his back, looking for a place to get some rest. This was his first moment of peace and sanctuary since coming to this world.

Ezra took a deep breath. He was here for more than nostalgia's sake - he was determined to help Cliff and charge more of his 'FP' - Fulfillment Points. The more Ezra helped people with their tasks, the more points he'd get. And eventually, he could use those points to change the world.

"Alright. Here goes."

He knocked on the door three times in quick succession and waited.
