Chapter 34: 34. Mana Circle

The instructor stared at Licht, momentarily stunned by the sudden intensity of his gaze.

Coughing, he straightened his suit and smoothed his expression, trying to recover his composure.

"Very well. But words have weight, Valtier. If you call it ignorance, prove otherwise."

"Fine."

Before the instructor could even respond, Licht raised both hands.

In his left palm, crackling violet lightning erupted, surging with raw power and at the same time, in his right hand, a shimmering with a sharp purple light reminscent of a beast’s fang flared to life, flowing in smooth, controlled pulses, as if his hand had become a conduit for pure motion itself.

Two completely different techniques had Manifested simultaneously.

A hush swept through the room. Students froze mid-movement. The sound of rustling sounds and whispers died instantly. All eyes locked onto Licht.

Even the instructor’s breath was caught in that moment. But eventually his eyes narrowed.

"Switching techniques that fast is impressive," he said after a pause, trying to reassert control. "But you’re not fooling anyone. Sleight of hand, perhaps. A trick of timing. You’re just alternating so quickly it looks simultaneous."

Licht didn’t say anymore. The two techniques didn’t flicker. He simply looked at the instructor, unimpressed.

"How else do you want me to prove it?" asked Licht

The instructor stared at him, caught between scepticism and self doubt.

Licht tilted his head slightly, voice cool as ice. "How do you want it? A text? An email? Or..."

His violet eyes gleamed.

"...another lecture?"

The instructor gave a mocking smile, masking the tension in his voice.

"Since you’ve interrupted my lecture with such revolutionary knowledge, naturally the more people that hear it, the better. Let’s have your lecture, Mr. Valtier. Show the class the ’truth.’"

"Gladly."

BRRRRRRRR

The school bell rang, signalling the end of the period.

Without a word, Licht calmly packed his bag, slinging it over his shoulder with practised ease. Then he turned and strolled out of the classroom—unhurried, completely unfazed.

There was not a glance back or single wasted movement.

The room was frozen.

Students who had expected another arrogant outburst now sat in stunned silence, watching him go.

No one laughed or spoke, not even the instructor.

For the first time, a flicker of doubt passed through the room.

Maybe... just maybe...

Licht wasn’t bluffing.

Maybe he really was in a league of his own.

.....

A while later.

Licht had just wrapped up his second lecture of the day and was finally on break—his designated free period for rest and self-study.

But he couldn’t relax.

Not because he was worried about proving the instructor wrong. That part had never been in question.

All he had to do was glance at his trait.

「Mana Mastery (S)」

◆ In an effort to overcome your abysmal talent in both swordsmanship and conventional magic, you dove headfirst into the theory of mana and weaving. Through sheer obsession and relentless study, you honed your understanding until it became second nature, as natural as breathing. In this domain alone... You are a genius.

The original Licht may have been a complete joke when it came to fighting. But when it came to Mana Theory, Licht was nothing short of a prodigy.

And that wasn’t just empty talk.

It was canon.

Across every route, every playthrough, no matter how the story branched, one fact remained consistent in the game’s narrative:

Licht D. Valtier was the first person to ever successfully use multiple distinct techniques simultaneously.

A theoretical genius. A once-in-a-generation mind.

But even that alone couldn’t explain how he managed to pull off something that had eluded even the most brilliant scholars and slayers for centuries.

No—there was another reason.

The real reason.

Human experimentation.

And the only reason Licht had access to such cruel, forbidden methods...

It was because of the Valtier family.

See, From the moment Licht was born, everyone believed he carried the purest Valtier bloodline. It was a lineage so potent that it was said to rival the gods themselves. His family’s expectations were immense. They didn’t just want talent; they wanted a force capable of reshaping the world’s balance of power.

But Licht never showed any sign of that power. No awakening came. No divine spark.

Billions were poured into forbidden experiments—genetic manipulation, arcane rituals, and sacrifices that blurred the line between science and sorcery. Hundreds of lives were lost.

Still, Licht remained ordinary.

The elders’ disappointment turned to anger, and eventually, they abandoned him.

Yet Licht did not give up.

He took control of the experiments himself, abandoning all limits and ethics. His methods grew ruthless and unrestrained.

His unchecked nature and the family’s vast archives on human experimentation allowed the uncovering of a truth no one believed possible: the ability to execute two distinct techniques at the same time.

He replicated the unique condition of the World Weavers—those rare individuals who could directly attune to the world’s mana frequency. Instead of connecting outward, he turned inward, creating a mana circle around his core that fed solely on his own energy.

This circle isolated the frequencies inside his body, allowing him to wield two separate techniques simultaneously without interference.

In the original timeline, Licht kept his secret buried.

His greatest breakthrough wasn’t revealed in triumph—but in desperation. A final, pitiful offer to a family that had long since cast him aside.

He thought they would welcome him back. That they’d see his value.

Instead, they used him.

They took his discovery, then sent assassins to silence the protagonist. The plot failed. The truth surfaced. And Licht Valtier died disgraced—his name dragged through blood, his legacy reduced to ashes.

In that world, his revelation came too late.

Resonance Techniques. Dual-channeling. Combination Casting.

A mechanic that tore through the limits of traditional combat. It reshaped how factions fought, how power was measured, and how alliances were formed. A force that turned gifted weavers into weapons of mass destruction.

And Licht had found it first.

But he hoarded it. Tried to barter with it. Tried to beg with it.

He treated revolution like a bargaining chip—and lost everything.

That Licht was a fool.

But this time? Things would be different.

This wasn’t a sick, desperate man clawing for relevance, an insecure man-child who needed the acknowledgement and pride that came with the Valtier family. He was someone who understood the game. Someone who remembered Licht’s ending and refused to repeat it.

He wouldn’t wait in the shadows, hoping for scraps.

He would move first and strike hard. He shape the world before it could shape him.

With the Mana circle technique under his control, he would become untouchable. Not by brute force, but by weaving himself into the fabric of the world—an indispensable thread no one could pull without unravelling everything.

He wouldn’t just be feared.

He’d be needed.

The corners of his mouth curled as energy shimmered faintly around him, the early echo of a power that shouldn’t exist yet.

"So," he murmured, almost to himself. "What do I do now?"

A pause.

Then the answer came—soft, certain, and laced with malice.

"I do what I should’ve done from the start."

His face widened into a cruel smile

"I burn the script."
