Virtual Reality Cultivator-Chapter 60: The Lost Legacy
Chapter 60 - 60: The Lost Legacy
The aftermath of the explosion at Victor's base brought an eerie silence. No more alarms. No more threats. Only wreckage and the remains of the brutal battle that had just taken place.
Ember sat on an old metal bench, her breathing still heavy. The wound on her shoulder had begun to clot, but the pain lingered.
"We did it... at least for now," Ethan said as he stood beside her.
Bell approached, leaning against the wall with an injured arm. "But we lost more than we thought. This isn't the end... just the edge of something bigger."
A Hidden DiscoveryWhile the team rested, Seraphina and Nova explored the still-functioning sections of the main terminal. They managed to restore parts of the backup systems and accessed Victor's encrypted files.
"There's one location that keeps showing up in these logs," Nova said, pointing to a holographic map. "A planet in an uncharted sector. It's called... Genesis."
Ember's head snapped up.
"Genesis?"

Seraphina nodded. "According to the records, it was the original lab. The place where all the genetic and psionic experiments first began. Including... Victor's creation."
Claire muttered, "Then... it's probably your origin too, Ember."
A New MissionAfter a brief memorial for the fallen crew, they returned to the Ardent Flame. Ember stood before the entire team, now looking more resolute and focused than ever before.
"Victor left us more than scars—he gave us direction." Ember looked at each of them. "Planet Genesis might hold the answers to everything: who I am, why I exist, and what these experiments were truly for."
Bell nodded with determined energy. "If that's our goal, then we're going. Together."
"Whatever awaits us, we face it as one," Ethan added.
Shadows from the PastElsewhere on the ship, Lena quietly accessed a file she had salvaged before Victor's system collapsed. What she found was different—a video recording from the past, showing an old scientist.
"If you're watching this... it means Victor has failed," the raspy voice said. "And if Ember is still alive, then the experiment worked. But know this... Project Genesis wasn't the end. It was merely the beginning of something far more dangerous. Something we called... the Nexus Protocol."
Lena froze. She stared at the screen, then at Ember who was speaking with the others. In her eyes, a new question formed: What is the Nexus Protocol—and who is Ember really?
The Journey to GenesisThe ship launched from the ruins of Victor's base. Seats buckled, navigation screens lit up, and the engines roared to life once again.
Nova input the coordinates for the planet Genesis.
"The trip will take three galactic days," Seraphina reported. "Plenty of time to heal and prepare."
Claire sat in the armory, polishing her blade. Bell cleaned his heavy rifle, occasionally glancing at Ember. Ethan reread Victor's notes, his brow furrowed in thought.
But Ember only stared out at the stars beyond the window. Her thoughts were drifting.
"Who am I... really?"
A Dream That Shakes the SoulOn the first night of the journey, Ember fell asleep in her cabin. In her sleep, she dreamed—or perhaps it wasn't just a dream.
She stood in a brightly lit laboratory. Around her were tanks containing malformed bodies. At the center of the room stood a girl... who looked just like her, but with golden eyes.
"You... are not the only one," the girl said. "You're the strongest... but not the last."
Ember jolted awake, breathing hard, sweat clinging to her skin. She knew—it had been a warning.
A New DirectionThe next morning, she called the entire crew to the main chamber.
"We're not just chasing my origins anymore. The Nexus Protocol... is a far greater threat, maybe even bigger than Victor."
Nova glanced at the recording Lena had found. "If that message is true, then Genesis holds more than just old experiments."
"It might be home to monsters we've never seen before," Claire added.
"Or... the key to saving the galaxy," Ethan whispered.
