Void Cultivation-Chapter 275
As soon as she finished speaking, the skies were torn apart by two massive halberds. These halberds were colossal, radiating an incomparable might. Their very presence caused the void itself to shatter, and the entire land below fell into a profound and suffocating silence.
This was only the second time in a very long while that the halberds had descended.
The moment the halberds appeared, the divine entity smiled lightly and stepped forward. After her initial glance at them, she completely ignored their presence.
As she moved, her fish tail transformed into a pair of slender legs, and she took another step into the sky.
When she ascended fully into the heavens, her body expanded rapidly until she stood more than ten thousand meters tall. The woman laughed softly and pinched the void between her fingers. A small scale appeared in her hand as she casually gestured toward the halberds.
At the same time, a completely pitch-black door manifested behind Grey and Roxanne.
The instant the black woman rose into the sky, the halberds locked onto her with lethal intent. An immense extermination power erupted from them as they both swung toward her with terrifying force.
Grey and Roxanne instinctively tracked the divine entity with their eyes, but the captain’s voice suddenly echoed directly into their minds.
"Don’t look! Those are beings far above our level! If you witness their battle directly, you would die instantly from observing a taboo."
The moment she spoke, a deafening bang reverberated through the air.
Just the sound alone forced Grey to cough up a mouthful of blood. His face drained of all color as blood seeped from all seven of his orifices. In that moment, he looked utterly pitiful.
The Mosasaur within him let out a heart-rending cry as it collapsed and exploded violently. However, it did not die.
Instead, it returned to Grey’s sea of consciousness to recuperate. Yet its aura had become extremely weak.
In the face of such absolute power, Grey suddenly realized just how insignificant he truly was. Like a small, lonely ship drifting helplessly in the middle of ravaging seas and earth-shaking waves.
The same horrifying effect overtook Roxanne.
Her red robes quickly became soaked in blood as she staggered violently, nearly collapsing under the pressure. Endless streams of blood poured from her ears.
Although Roxanne could also be considered a mythical creature, she was clearly not on their level. She would die just as quickly as Grey would.
In fact, it was even worse for her.
As a mythical creature, she could sense far more than they could. She could clearly feel the terrifying authorities clashing in the sky. Her face flushed deeply as blood trickled down from her ears and nose.
The captain’s voice rang out again, now tinged with urgency.
"Do I really need to tell you two to leave this place? I sacrificed my body for this opportunity and even summoned a divine entity. Even though it’s only an avatar, it could easily annihilate us, and be annihilated by those sacred immortal weapons."
It was only then that they noticed the pitch-black door behind them.
A strange glint appeared in Grey’s eyes. Clearly, this door had been formed from the black goo that had seeped from the captain’s corpse earlier.
Another thunderous bang tore through the land, this time destroying a vast portion of the ground beneath them. The destruction created a hole so deep and wide that its end could not even be seen.
The pitch-black door trembled violently, already showing signs of instability.
Grey coughed up another mouthful of blood. His internal organs felt ruptured, and his entire body was wracked with unbearable pain.
Endless agony assaulted his senses, yet the hazy voice of the captain continued to call to them anxiously.
"You need to hurry through the door! It will collapse soon. The avatar I created for the divine entity won’t last much longer. The moment it falls, the halberds will kill us instantly!"
Her voice was strained with worry and desperation.
Grey immediately understood the dire nature of the situation.
If the divine entity perished, then they would die as well, after all, they were the ones who had summoned it here.
Pushing all other thoughts aside, Grey leaped into the black door without hesitation. Roxanne followed immediately after him.
The moment they entered, the door collapsed into black liquid, spraying everywhere.
A sharp scream rang out moments later.
The avatar of the divine entity was ruthlessly pierced by the two halberds.
However, before dying, she bit off a huge chunk of steel from one of the halberds with her teeth, laughing madly as she swallowed it whole.
Simultaneously, the halberds emitted a loud, furious buzzing sound before violently tearing her body apart.
But after her body was destroyed, a single beam of light escaped from her forehead and fled into the distance.
This beam of light was actually the true form of the divine entity that had been summoned by the captain’s ritual.
It immediately tried to escape.
After all, the avatar that had been prepared for it by the captain had already died. Just the beam of light alone could not possibly contend with the two halberds.
Thus, it fled desperately, trying to escape this world.
The sky shattered like fragile glass as the beam of light shot through the fracture and fled into the space beyond.
The two halberds immediately gave chase.
However, they could not leave the world itself. They could only pursue the beam of light until it completely escaped their domain.
Once their task was completed, the halberds returned with terrifying might and swept the land with their divine senses.
They furiously searched for whoever had summoned the divine entity.
Yet they sensed nothing.
Grey and Roxanne had already disappeared through the pitch-black door, leaving the halberds unable to detect them.
Even so, the halberds did not immediately return to the rift beyond the skies.
Instead, they hovered in the heavens, continually scanning the land for the summoner.
The creatures below trembled in fear.
The blood tentacles stopped swaying and collapsed weakly onto the ground.
The red mist gathered together, forming a massive mountain in the shape of a humanoid creature. Even this monstrous formation hid itself, trying to avoid the judgment of the ancient halberds above.
The halberds remained in the sky, buzzing intensely as they searched for the culprit responsible for such a disturbance.
However, their search proved fruitless.
Eventually, one of the halberds grew indifferent and gradually returned to the space beyond the sky through the spatial tear.
But the halberd from which the divine entity had bitten a chunk remained behind.
Now that a piece of it was missing, it could not help but buzz with even greater exterminating might.
It was as though it were declaring that if it ever found the one responsible for this humiliation, that person would immediately suffer a horrible death.
At the same time, all the existences hidden within the world fell silent.
Every divine being that had concealed itself here chose to remain quiet.
Obviously, none of them wanted to provoke the anger of the sacred halberd.
---
When Grey and Roxanne passed through the door, it instantly became unstable and collapsed behind them.
At the same moment, the reflection of the captain spat out a mouthful of blood.
Her expression became extremely pale, and her face turned downcast.
"The avatar has been destroyed. The halberds will be searching for us now..." the captain’s low voice echoed from the reflection.
Although Grey was still stunned by everything that had just happened, he simply nodded.
Roxanne also gradually recovered from her state of shock.
When they looked around them, they discovered that they were in a completely dark and empty space.
It was so dark that they could not even see what was in front of them.
Not even cultivators could pierce this strange darkness with their eyes.
Slowly, the eyeball in Grey’s hand began to emit a faint illuminating light.
The light was not particularly bright, but it was enough to allow them to see their immediate surroundings.
And what they saw left them confused.
From the corner of his eye, Grey could see ancient slabs of stone floating silently within the darkness. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Each of these slabs stood more than ten feet tall, and upon them were various murals and ancient inscriptions carved deeply into the stone.
But that was not all.
Within the darkness, countless thin threads pierced through the slabs of stone, holding them suspended in midair.
These threads converged together and extended far into the distance, disappearing into the endless darkness.
It was at that moment that the captain spoke softly.
"We are very close to obtaining what we came here for."
Her voice was calm, yet there was a clear trace of exhaustion within it.
"Roxanne, you shall obtain the divine fire I told you about. And Grey, you shall receive the eye, along with the increase in cultivation that I promised."
Clearly, all of her preparations had taken a heavy toll on her.
Moreover, her physical body had already been destroyed. Only her reflection remained within the eyeball in Grey’s hand.
And even that reflection was slowly beginning to fade.
Grey did not say anything and only nodded silently.
As for Roxanne, she remained quiet as well.
But even though the captain had said they could obtain the items they desired, they still had no idea how.
They did not even know where they currently were.
Moreover, her previous actions carried deep meaning.
For the captain to summon a divine entity that was nearly at the level of a god meant that she must have truly staked everything on this expedition.
She had not even hesitated to sacrifice her own body.
Grey could not help but feel that... there was far more to this situation than met the eye.
