VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne-Chapter 115: Swear to me
’This is... this shouldn’t be possible! Who the hell is this girl? How?! How have I never heard of her?’
Revenant questioned in his mind as his entire view of reality was shattered at the ’fight’ that was occurring before him. Honestly, calling it a fight was a little too optimistic.
This enigmatic girl was paying with the colossal knight like was just a doll. Throwing him around with every punch, using his own weapon against him. She wasn’t even taking it seriously any more, she was overpowering him that easy.
It was such a one sided slaughter, that it made Revenant question all of his plans going forwards. He wondered in subjugating this undead would even be worth it if this random girl could overpower it to this laughable degree with just two souls worth of energy.
Then again, there was also the fact that he might not even get the chance to decide that for himself before he killed him, which would mess up his plans even more. He was in the middle of this very important dilemma when the black knight burst through the wall of the church with the girl following close behind.
The church, which had been punched full of holes from their embarrassingly easy ’fight’ finally crumbled as its ruined structure couldn’t possibly stand any longer. Perhaps it was a miracle of the gods that it didn’t collapse on top of them, or maybe it was sheer dumb luck.
Belladonna boosted her speed, racing past the flying knight and stopping in his flight path, only to punch him out of the air and into the ground so hard that he actually bounced.
"Hmm... Seems to be running out, that makes it roughly 30 seconds for each. Not too bad, but I don’t know if I can replicate that. I’ll need to do some tests of blood draining, see if subject power or even blood type has an effect or if it can be down to exertion level."
Revenant heard the girl muttering to herself, having seemingly forgotten about his presence or thought him so inconsequential that she didn’t care about him overhearing her ramblings. But he did, and he was horrified by what he heard.
He had thought she was playing with his wonderful Knight out of sadistic glee and to experience her new power. No... It was somehow even worse than that. She was treating his Knight like he was just a science experiment!
Something that existed to further her studies and not an actual opponent. She viewed his knight, the one that he had prepared so much for, like she was doing nothing more than dissecting a frog. Just who the hell was this girl?!
"Oh well, time to finish this." Belladonna muttered, striding over to the knight and grabbing the collar of his breastplate. The metal creaked and bent under her grip as she pulled him up from the ground.
She grabbed his helmet by the horns and pulled it off his head, getting a look at the face underneath.
It was less rotted than she expected, looking like just a normal man with mocha skin and pure white hair. Funnily enough his eyes were purely red and glowing, providing the actual glow for his helmets eye sockets.
Honestly if it wasn’t for the fact that he had a massive chunk taken out of his face, completely shredding his lower jaw and moving diagonally up his face to peel away parts of his skin to reveal the skull underneath, she would have thought that he was a normal guy.
Not that an injury like that was common. But compared to the ghosts and rotten, walking corpses, he looked surprisingly good. As she pulled back her arm, her knuckles cracking as she clenched her fist, she couldn’t help but think that it was almost a shame to ruin his good looks. Almost.
"Wait!" Revenant shouted in panic before Belladonna could finish the job,
"Why should I?" She replied in a cold tone, not bothering to look at him or even lower her arm.
"Because you owe me for the souls. You wouldn’t have been able to beat him without them!"
"No... I would. Besides, the souls were your apology for taking all the Orchids. That makes us even, I owe you nothing."
"Then how about I give you some!" He quickly shouted, stepping forwards and putting his hand on her shoulder. However it was only there for a second before there was a black blur and four tiny cuts appeared on his hand.
He hissed in pain, yanking his arm back as the girl smirked.
"Yeah, don’t touch me." She muttered before looking down at the undead in her hands. She thought it over for a few seconds, before tilting her head towards Revenant.
"Sure. Give me some of the Orchids, but I also want some more of that stuff you gave me. I could do with an easy powerup more often."
"I don’t have anymore to give you... Not right now." He said with a wince, as if the words pained him.
Belladonna clicked her tongue with sarcastic disappointment, "That’s a shame. Anyways..." She lifted her fist higher, getting ready to kill the undead when Revenant shouted in panic again.
"No wait! I don’t have any now. But I can get you some. Even better, I can make them into potions you can take."
Belladonna smirked to herself at his desperation, before putting on a serious and doubtful face. She sucked air in through her teeth, as if she was struggling to come to a decision.
"Gee... I dunno... How can I be so sure you’ll hold up your end of the bargain?"
"I’ll swear it." He said sternly, with an incredibly serious and solemn tone that made Belladonna a little wary. Sure promises were a big thing, but there was no need to take them that seriously.
Revenant sighed at her quizzical eyebrow raise, as he could tell she still doubted him, before placing his hand over his heart and speaking slowly and clearly,
"I swear to the Gods and beneath the open sky that I will deliver onto you three potions that will replicate the effects of consuming a soul, as payment for you sparing the undead in your grasp. Do you agree to this pledge?"
Belladonna’s eyebrow raised even more, feeling a little offput by the incredibly serious tone everything had taken, before shrugging.
"Uh yeah, Sure dude. That sounds fine to me."
The exact moment that she finished her sentence, a rolling crash of thunder sounded from overhead, echoing across the land for all to hear. The strange part was, that there was no clouds in the sky to be seen.
That wasn’t ominous at all.
As agreed, Belladonna let go of the undead, letting it crumple back to the ground, as she stepped away and snatched the Orchid’s from the strangers outstretched hands, leaving him to rush towards the knight and do whatever it was he needed it for.
Beans manifested on her shoulder, letting out soft purrs as he nuzzled into her and she scratched below his chin.
"That’s the last ingredient buddy. Now we can finally get you growing stronger!"
