VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne-Chapter 127: BOOKS!
Listening to Beans eat was not as adorable as the little kitten’s appearance might suggest. Instead it was like listening to a Velociraptor tearing apart a game hunter. Vicious, low rumbling growls and roars as his tiny needle teeth ripped apart the meat, his claws tearing it into smaller sections that he eagerly devoured.
She could even swear that she saw his jaw unhinge slightly to eat a larger chunk of the meat.
He made a complete mess of it, spraying the glazing everywhere, and yet still sat up straight once he was finished and gently licked his paws as if he was a refined and noble boy and not the savage beast Belladonna had just witnessed.
"Good boy~" Belladonna cooed, Scratching behind his ears to hear even more of those adorable purrs.
"How do you feel? Nice and strong?"
"Mreow~" He answered, puffing out his chest and swishing his tail with pride. As far as she could see, there wasn’t much difference in his appearance. His fur was silkier and shinier, and he was a tough bit more fluffy. But otherwise, that was it.
He wasn’t any bigger or any meaner looking. Then again, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Should he have grown massively after just one meal?
[Familiar Name: Beans
Status: Healthy
Awakening Progress: 5%]
Ah, that was useful. Just when Belladonna was wondering how many meals it would take, the system seemed to respond to her thoughts, giving her a small summary of her adorable little companion.
5%, that wasn’t too bad. Although the beast instructor had told her that the cultivation meals could only be given once a day, a fact that was constant across all species of familiar, that meant that in just less than 20 days, Beans would advance to his next stage. Whatever that was.
She was quite eager to find out, especially if it meant that he could be brought to the real world. Even if he wasn’t good in combat, she still would have wanted him to join her. Even if this world reflected her bodily sensations perfectly, he wanted to feel how fluffy he was for real. Only then would she finally be complete.
Picking Beans up and placing him on her shoulder, Belladonna cleaned up the mess she had left on some of the tools, replaced the cauldron in its rightful place and left the room. She did worry about the Tarbria crystal, but if it was here when she first arrived then surely they had some way of taking care of it for her.
It was what she was paying for, after all.
"Oof!" The moment she stepped out of the door, someone immediately slammed into her. The man bounced off of her like she was a pillar he had run into instead and clattered to the floor, groaning as he held his chest from where her elbow had accidentally jabbed him.
"Oh, I’m sorry," Belladonna said, grabbing the man’s shoulders and lifting him from the ground like he was a rag doll before placing him onto the ground. She brushed him off slightly, then patted his shoulder and gave him a nice smile.
"There we go, good as new."
The man stared her with wide eyes, like a deer in headlights, but Belladonna shrugged it off and headed straight to the library, walking as quickly as she was allowed to, leaving the man behind in her dust.
He stared at her the entire time, before a wide smile spread across his face.
’I found her! I actually found her! I have to tell the Queen before the others find her. No wait... Find out where she is going first, yes. That’s an even better idea!’
The man nodded to himself with a giddy smile and started to follow Belladonna, making sure to do his best to remain unseen. Unfortunately he did that by copying all of the spy movies he had seen, causing him to be incredibly obvious as he darted between the different forms of ’cover’ in the hallway.
Even when Belladonna glanced over her shoulder at him and made direct eye contact on multiple different occasions, he still refused to take the hint. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
’Seriously,’ Belladonna thought, ’What is it with creeps constantly following me? Do I have honey stuck to my butt or something? At least this one is too stupid to be of harm. But I really hope he doesn’t interact with my studying.’
She sighed heavily, wishing that the rules on violence wasn’t so strict otherwise she would have ended this man here and now. She knew for a fact that being friendly with the staff or being a member would never do anything to save her from Amodite justice.
Justice naturally being what they called the hammer they used to break your legs.
Thankfully, when she reached the library and headed inside, Belladonna glanced over her shoulder to the idiotic creep scampering off. Perhaps he was afraid of books.
She chuckled at her own absolutely terrible joke and headed inside.
Finding the beginners section wasn’t difficult. It was, as the receptionist had mentioned, almost right beside the door when you entered. To many it even more obvious it had a sign hanging from it with writing in big bold letters, as if the designer was afraid they would somehow miss the most obvious shelf in existence or not be able to read it otherwise.
As for what it said? Well, it was in the language of this world so the translation appeared as an illusion over the letters, and Belladonna wasn’t exactly sure how accurate it was.
But what she saw was "LEARN YOUR BASIC MAGIC IDIOTS!"
Shaking her head softly, Belladonna took a variety of the books from the basic section, even if they were on some of the most plainly obvious subjects, and carried them over to a nearby table.
Just like the receptionist had told her, she tapped her ring against the obelisk that was in the exact centre of the circular table. Immediately, all the sounds of shifting seats or pages turning immediately cut out.
She couldn’t even hear herself breathe, or if she had any snacks to eat she would actually be able to hear herself think as she wouldn’t hear the chewing echoing in her head.
Laughing softly to herself, at least she tried to before the magic completely silenced it, Belladonna sat down and began to study. Flipping through page after page in absolute deafening silence as she lost herself in the books.
So much so that she didn’t notice the new people entering the room until she was shoved off of her chair and out of the silence field where she was immediately greeted with the kind words of,
"I’m talking to you, you gothic bitch!"
