Warlock of Oceans: My Poseidon System-Chapter 399: Mutated Second Floor: The Grave of Grotesque Toads (13)
With a fierce battle cry, Sylus charged forward. His greatsword, now glowing with Athena’s magic, crackled with energy as he swung it toward the first golem. The blade connected with the creature’s chest, and this time, the impact was devastating. The obsidian shell shattered like glass, fragments flying in all directions as the golem let out a deep, guttural groan.
Cyrus, quick to capitalize on the opening, dashed in and delivered a flurry of rapid slashes to the exposed core of the golem. His aether blade cut through the vulnerable spot with precision, and with one final strike, the first golem collapsed to the ground, its obsidian form disintegrating into a cloud of dust.
But there was no time to celebrate. The second golem, enraged by the fall of its companion, let out a deafening roar and charged at the trio, its obsidian form glowing with a dark, malevolent energy. The ground trembled beneath its feet as it rushed forward, its massive arms raised to crush them all.
"Brace yourselves!" Sylus shouted, planting his feet and raising his greatsword once more.
The battle was far from over.
The air around them was thick with tension as the trio fought with every ounce of strength they could muster. Sylus, Cyrus, and Athena had finally managed to turn the tide against the two black golems, their improvised formation keeping them alive long enough to weaken one of the massive creatures. It was heavily damaged now, cracks webbing through its obsidian body, limbs sluggish and unresponsive. But the fight was far from over.
Sylus took point, planting himself between the golems and his team as he swung his greatsword with brutal efficiency. The blade, now heavier in his hands from exhaustion, whistled through the air as it collided with the damaged golem’s arm. The impact sent chunks of obsidian flying, the creature staggering back. It tried to retaliate with a sluggish swipe, but Sylus easily dodged, sidestepping and driving his blade into the creature’s exposed side.
Behind him, Cyrus darted in and out like a shadow, his aether blade slashing through the cracks in the golem’s armor with precision. Every strike was calculated, aiming for the weak points they had created earlier. He spun, narrowly avoiding a massive stomp from the other golem, and retaliated with a downward slash that cleaved through the first golem’s leg. The obsidian cracked further, and the creature stumbled, teetering on the edge of collapse.
"We’ve almost got it!" Cyrus called, his voice strained but determined. He wiped sweat from his brow, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The battle had taken its toll on all of them, but they couldn’t afford to let up now.
Athena, positioned at the back, was a constant flurry of magic. Her hands moved rapidly as she cast another shield around Sylus, her energy waning but her resolve unshaken. The golden barrier shimmered just in time to deflect a devastating blow from the second golem, its massive fist crashing against the shield with a sound like thunder.
"I’m running low on mana," Athena warned, her voice laced with fatigue. Her normally graceful movements were becoming sluggish, her hands trembling as she prepared another spell. "But I’ll keep us going as long as I can."
Sylus, gritting his teeth, charged forward once more. He raised his greatsword high and brought it down with a roar, cleaving deep into the injured golem’s chest. The obsidian shell shattered under the force of the blow, sending cracks spiraling across its torso. The creature let out a low groan, stumbling backward as pieces of its body crumbled to the ground.
But as the first golem began to fall, the second one moved with surprising speed. It lunged forward, catching its weakened companion with both massive hands, preventing it from collapsing completely. The two creatures, despite their monstrous forms, seemed to share some strange sense of camaraderie. The second golem held the first one up, refusing to let it fall.
"They’re helping each other!" Athena gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief. "They’re working together!"
Sylus cursed under his breath, stepping back to regroup with the others. "Stay sharp! They’re not done yet."
The damaged golem, barely able to move on its own, was now a dead weight in the second golem’s grip. Its body hung limp, shattered limbs barely clinging together. But instead of collapsing, the golem made a choice—a final, desperate act. It gave up, its form melting into a sticky black substance as it fused with the second golem. The two creatures began to merge, their bodies becoming one massive entity.
"Everyone, fall back!" Cyrus yelled, his eyes widening as he saw the transformation. The obsidian skin of the golems seemed to ripple and twist as they fused together, the sticky substance hardening into a solid, impenetrable surface. The new golem was massive—twice the size of the originals, its body now a gleaming, obsidian colossus.
Sylus, still at the front, narrowed his eyes and gripped his greatsword tighter. "We need to stick to the plan," he growled, his voice rough. "I’ll hold it off, but you two need to find a way to bring it down."
The new golem wasted no time. It swung its massive arm down in a crushing blow aimed directly at Sylus. He raised his greatsword in defense, the blade glowing with the remnants of Athena’s magic. The impact was like an earthquake, the ground shuddering beneath them as Sylus blocked the strike. His legs buckled under the force, the weight of the golem’s arm nearly driving him to his knees.
But he didn’t falter. With a roar, Sylus shoved the golem’s arm upward, throwing off its balance just long enough for Cyrus to strike.
Cyrus moved in, his body a blur of speed as he dodged the golem’s sweeping attacks. He ducked under a massive fist, his aether blade glowing brighter as he funneled what little energy he had left into the weapon. He leaped forward, driving the blade into the golem’s knee joint, aiming for the weak spots he had targeted earlier. The obsidian cracked, but this time the golem didn’t stagger. It was stronger now—more resilient.
"Damn it!" Cyrus hissed, pulling back as the golem retaliated with a swift kick. He barely managed to dodge, the wind from the attack whipping past him as he rolled to the side.
Athena, watching from the back, saw the danger. She raised her hands, summoning a series of ethereal chains that shot forward and wrapped around the golem’s arm. The chains glowed with a soft blue light, their magic slowing the creature’s movements just enough to give Sylus and Cyrus some breathing room.
"I can’t hold it for long!" Athena warned, her voice strained as she struggled to maintain the spell.
Sylus seized the opportunity. He charged forward, his greatsword raised high, and swung with all his might at the golem’s arm. The blade connected with a sickening crunch, sending shards of obsidian flying as the golem’s arm fractured under the force. But it wasn’t enough. The creature let out a low, rumbling growl and lashed out with its other arm, forcing Sylus to retreat.
"We’re not getting anywhere like this," Sylus muttered, wiping sweat from his brow. His arms trembled from the strain, his muscles burning with exhaustion. "We need to hit it harder."
Cyrus, panting heavily, nodded. "We need to focus everything on one spot—break through its defense."
Athena, still at the back, her magic nearly drained, nodded in agreement. "I can amplify your next attack," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But it’s going to take everything I have left."
"Do it," Sylus said without hesitation.
Athena closed her eyes, gathering what little mana she had left. Her hands glowed with a brilliant golden light, the magic wrapping around Sylus like a cloak. His greatsword began to hum with power, the blade glowing brighter as Athena’s magic infused it with incredible strength.
"This is our last shot," Sylus growled, tightening his grip on the hilt of his sword. He took a deep breath, his eyes locked on the golem.
The massive creature reared back, preparing for another devastating attack. But Sylus didn’t wait. With a roar, he charged forward, his greatsword raised high above his head. The golem swung its arm down to meet him, but this time, Sylus was ready. He dodged to the side at the last moment, and with all his strength, he brought the glowing blade crashing down on the golem’s exposed chest.
The impact was like an explosion. The obsidian cracked and shattered, pieces of the golem’s body flying in all directions as the blade carved through its core. The creature let out a deafening roar, its movements slowing as its body began to crumble.
"Cyrus, now!" Sylus shouted.
Cyrus didn’t hesitate. He dashed forward, his aether blade flaring with one final burst of energy. With a swift, precise strike, he drove the blade into the golem’s weakened core, piercing through the cracks Sylus had created.
