Chapter 355: All kinds of skittering

"Bugs, huh?" I couldn’t help saying to myself with a strange look on my face.

It was a good thing that I didn’t bring them with me.

It wasn’t just the girls who were bad with bugs, but also the lackeys.

One might think that someone like Gao Fu Shuai who grew up as a farmer would be alright with bugs, but I’ve seen him jump from seeing a spider. So there was no doubt that he would have been terrified by the scene of this cave.

As for me, bugs weren’t really my thing either, but I could at least keep it together in front of a spider.

It wasn’t as if a single spider was something that one should be afraid of.

I knew that the real terrifying thing came when bugs gathered together, such as what they were doing in the darkness of this cave.

The skittering sounds made it clear how many of them were hiding in the darkness.

But it wasn’t as if we could back down now.

The only reason that they hadn’t attacked was that they were afraid of the flames. If it wasn’t for the light of the flames keeping them back, there was no doubt that they would have already charged at us.

Even if we had the advantage when it came to cultivation, that didn’t matter in the face of pure numbers like this. Especially in a situation where we weren’t able to use our strongest tool in the first place.

Flames really couldn’t be used in a place like this.

If flames were used and once all of the oxygen was burnt away, there was no doubt that there would be a very bad ending...

So all we could do now was walk forward.

There were two ways that we could have walked since it was a tunnel that we fell into. Based on the markings that were on the walls of the tunnel, it seemed that this place had been created by the bugs that were here.

However, the way forward was the fastest way of reaching our target.

It was at a time like this that I was really grateful for the fact that I had a map, not to mention a 3D map like this. The 3D map made it very clear where we were going, which made it easier for us to head to the target.

But there was no doubt that it was disturbing hearing the skittering from all around us.

As we walked forward, the three beasts couldn’t help coming closer and closer to me as if they were starting to feel scared by the things hidden in the dark.

That was because there were more and more bugs that were gathering.

Even a fool would be able to hear it, the sounds of their feet skittering in the darkness was getting louder and louder. It didn’t reach the point where it drowned out everything, but it was certainly loud enough that it could be heard clearly.

It wasn’t like before where it was only soft skittering.

It was the loud skittering that could only come from many bugs gathering together.

But at the same time, if one listened closely, they would be able to tell that there were different kinds of skittering sounds. It wasn’t just a single kind of skittering which would mean that there was only one race of bugs.

There were many different sounds which showed that there were many different bugs with different physiques that were hiding in the dark.

Different bugs meant that there would be bugs with different abilities, different abilities meant that there would be all kinds of things to worry about.

There might even be bugs that had abilities that could slay gods after all.

That was the fear of the unknown.

So even if these three beasts were in the Transcendence Realm, they didn’t dare let their guards down.

That was the experience that came from their long lives.

I also knew that the fact that all of these bugs were gathering was a bad thing for me, so I couldn’t help asking the system for a secret weapon.

As I was negotiating with the system, we were getting closer and closer to the red dot on the map.

As we got closer to the red dot, the sounds coming from around us were getting louder.

With just this, it was hard to imagine just how many bugs the invader was controlling. But at the same time, the amount of noise that was coming from them made it clear that it wasn’t a small amount.

It had reached the point where it actually was deafening to listen to them.

We couldn’t even hear our footsteps at this point.

The little monkey looked like it was scared and wanted to leave, but the only reason that it didn’t leave was because there were the same sounds coming from behind us. That meant that there were the same bugs that were behind us as well, cutting it off from escaping.

So the only thing that the little monkey could do was hope that I had a way to deal with the bugs.

After walking for a bit longer, the skittering of the bugs suddenly stopped.

We couldn’t help stopping as well as we didn’t know what was happening, but there were no more sounds that came from the bugs that were around us. It was almost as if they had all suddenly froze in place.

I could tell from the map that the red dot was still idle and right in front of us, so it didn’t seem like the target was running away. At the same time, there was the aura of all the bugs that were around us, which made it clear that they were all still there.

The four beasts turned to look at me as if they were asking what was happening, only...

I didn’t know how to respond to them since I didn’t know what the bugs were doing either.
