Chapter 356: Bookworm

After shaking my head to the four of them, I looked carefully around us.

At the same time, I put even more energy into the flames that were around us so we could see better.

After the flames became stronger, there was more of the cave that was revealed.

There were more bugs that were seen, but they didn’t seem to back down when the light fell on them. This time, they remained where they were even though the light was illuminating them.

It was as if there was something that kept them in place.

That was more concerning than the amount of bugs that were around us.

After all, if they didn’t move, then it meant that they were preparing to fight.

If they were preparing to fight...it was very likely that we would be completely swarmed by these bugs.

With the light of the flame, the amount of bugs that were around us was revealed. Or at least a portion of it which gave us a good idea of just how many bugs there were.

They would be able to completely smother us if they were to charge us, but that didn’t mean that they would be able to defeat us. Since the three spirit beasts around me were in the Transcendence Realm, they would be able to form a barrier to keep us safe for a while under the weight of these bugs with their spiritual energy.

It was what came after that...

But for now, it didn’t seem like they were planning on doing anything.

I looked at the map again and found that the red dot was indeed in front of us. It seemed that it wasn’t planning on doing anything, it didn’t even seem like it was planning on moving.

Whatever was controlling the bugs that were here was most likely what the red dot represented, so if we could take care of that...

Only it was about finding it first in this mass of bugs.

After thinking about it, I increased the power of the flames.

While this might become a bit straining if I were to maintain it for a while, it was still better than doing nothing.

As the flames became stronger, the light from them became brighter and more of the cave was lit up. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

As more of the cave was lit up, it showed just how many bugs there were here.

If there was anyone with a fear of bugs here, there was no doubt that they would have fainted when they saw this sight. This was terrifying even for people that didn’t have a fear of bugs.

But I didn’t care as I looked carefully at the sea of bugs in front of me.

Before I could find anything, there was a voice that said, "Can you turn that down? It’s too bright for a place like this."

I was completely taken aback when I heard this and I looked at the four spirit beasts as if I was asking them if they could see who was talking, but it was clear that none of them knew who it was.

So in the end, all I could do was turn back forward and ask, "Why should I do that when you’re the one that has us surrounded like this?"

"Heh, you’re the one that invaded our home like this and now you’re complaining about it when we try to defend ourselves? That really seems a bit hypocritical, don’t you think?"

The same voice as before rang out and it was quite reasonable in what it said.

However, that was only if one didn’t know the full story.

For me who had the system, for me who knew the full story, I couldn’t be fooled that easily.

"You’re the one that invaded this lower realm in the first place. If you didn’t come to this place, would we have come for you?" I said in a taunting voice.

"Ho, ho, it seems like you know much more than I give you credit for. Then if you know so much, do you know which upper realm I come from?" The voice said in a similar taunting voice.

It was as if it didn’t care at all that its identity had been exposed.

It was even daring me to expose it even more, which made me knit my brows slightly.

Was this because it was confident or because it had ulterior motives?

I had no idea what the owner of this voice was planning on doing, but I also didn’t really care what they were planning on doing now. All that mattered right now was figuring out where the owner of this voice was.

"Are you scared to show yourself then?" I suddenly taunted it.

There was only silence that followed after I said this.

Seeing them remain silent like this, I couldn’t help worrying that I had scared them off.

I even had to make sure that they were still there by checking the map.

It was only when I saw that the red dot was still there that I calmed down.

But I didn’t stop myself from looking at the wave of bugs in front of us in an attempt to find the owner of the voice.

The problem was that with how many bugs there were, the voice seemed like it was coming from all around us.

It really was hard to find it in this wave of bugs.

As I was about to give up, the bugs suddenly started moving.

When the skittering sound came, I really thought that they were about to start attacking us. However, that didn’t seem to be the case once they did start moving.

All of the bugs suddenly started moving out of the way and there was an area that was revealed in the sea of bugs.

Inside of this empty space, there was a single bug that was there.

It was a worm, but it wasn’t just any worm.

It was a bookworm.

By that, I meant that it was a worm that actually had glasses and a book that it seemed to be reading.
