Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 362: Caught
Both the system and I showed our relief the moment that we saw that it still worked.
The system quickly explained, "Even if the soul is destroyed, the body is still there. As long as I do not destroy the body, then it should be fine."
The way that it said this was almost as if it had discovered something new, but that was what surprised me.
The way that the system spoke before was as if it followed god’s orders to the tee, but now it seemed like it was trying to find a way to dodge the restrictions that god had set on it.
As for the reason why it was trying to find a way to dodge these restrictions...
It seemed like it was trying to find a way to help me.
I couldn’t help feeling quite touched when I heard this, but I also didn’t get my hopes up since there were also other possibilities. Before it confirmed this or it found a way to ignore god’s restrictions, I would keep my doubt.
For now, the only thing to think about was how to get out of here.
Even if I had the bug incense, that didn’t mean that all of the bugs in the cave were gone. The ones that were in the area had been affected by the bug incense, but that was only a small number compared to the total amount of bugs that were in this cave.
There were still many other bugs that were in the cave that we might have to fight through.
Only when I looked up, I found that there weren’t any bugs here at all. When I looked carefully, I found that all of the bugs that should have been here were gone.
I turned to the four beasts and asked them what happened.
According to them, the bugs had run off all of a sudden after I had burned the bookworm. They just all ran off like headless chickens, as if they had suddenly lost the one brain that was connecting them.
That wasn’t strange since the bookworm was controlling them in the first place.
By the law of nature, they would care more about their own lives than fighting us, so it wasn’t as if they were about to risk their lives fighting us.
Especially since we were much stronger than them in the first place. The three Four Kings were Transcendence Realm Spirit Beasts.
They had a pressure that all other wild animal had to be aware of, whether they were bugs or not. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The only reason that they didn’t run before was because they had been controlled by the bookworm.
"Then shall we go?" I asked in an awkward voice.
The others nodded in agreement.
With nothing stopping us, we were able to quickly make our way out of the cave and return to where we were.
Then we headed right back to the village since I was certain that they would be wondering where I had gone. Though before heading back, I made sure to swear the four beasts to secrecy.
They couldn’t tell them anything or there was no doubt that I would be dead.
Or that was the plan...it was just too bad that not all plans went perfectly.
That was because as soon as we arrived in the village, there were two figures standing there waiting for us. The way that they were looking at me was as if I had been caught trying to sneak in after dark, even though it was still the middle of the afternoon.
Seeing the two of them standing there like that, there was an awkward smile that appeared on my face before I asked, "What are you two doing here?"
"How was your walk?" Liu Ao Xue said this in a calm voice, but there was no mistaking the hidden undertone of her voice. It was clear that there were more feelings than what was being shown on the surface.
It was the same for Mu Bao Bao who stood beside her.
The four beasts immediately went to make themselves scarce, but it didn’t work as they were scared back with a single glare from the two of them. So in the end, the four of them went to hide behind me as if they were using me as a shield
There was a bitter feeling that filled me when I saw the four of them like this, but there was a more important matter for me to deal with.
With an awkward smile, I said, "It was fun, but I got a bit lost."
"A bit lost?" Liu Ao Xue asked with a trace of doubt in her voice.
Though there was doubt in her voice, it was clear that she didn’t believe me. In fact, it seemed that she had already come to a conclusion and she was just here to give a sentence.
Instead of saying anything else, I just asked, "Why did you come looking for me?"
Liu Ao Xue narrowed her eyes to look at me before saying, "Do you even know how long you’ve been gone?"
I was a bit surprised and confused to hear this as I didn’t seem to understand what she meant by this at first, but then I understood.
It was the time that I had been unconscious.
We had been underground when I lost consciousness, so we weren’t able to tell how long had passed. They had thought that it was a short period of time, but it had actually been several hours.
That was why they had been worried and had come out looking for me.
There was nothing that I could say to explain this since it would expose me...so the only thing that I could do was just keep silent and accept my punishment.
Liu Ao Xue looked at me with narrowed eyes for a bit before saying, "Alright, I see that you’ve made your decision."
There was even more bitterness that appeared on my face when I heard this, but I didn’t resist as she pulled me into the village.
