Chapter 438: Keeping things hidden

After arriving at the palace, Mu Huang didn’t hesitate at all as he walked through the main corridor of the palace.

He walked right up to the hall that was at the center of the palace and walked in as if he was the owner of this place.

Though technically, he was the owner of this place.

After he walked in, there were many eyes that turned in his direction.

It seemed that there had been people waiting in the hall for him the entire time and based on the auras that were around these people, it seemed like none of them were simple.

It seemed that all of them were powerful experts of this Nine Tails Empire, which was why they were sitting here.

With the different appearances that they had and the respectful way that they treated Mu Huang, it was clear that they were the important ministers of the Nine Tails Empire.

They were the ones that helped Mu Huang run this Nine Tails Empire, so they could be considered the top brass here.

It was just that...

"Bao Bao is back!"

As soon as one of them said this, all of them suddenly revealed smiles and stood up as if they wanted to come over to her side.

Mu Bao Bao wasn’t unhappy to see them unlike she was with her father.

As the ministers came over, Mu Bao Bao greeted them all with a happy smile on her face.

She called all of them uncles and aunts, she didn’t call them grandpa like she had with the butler that had followed Mu Huang down into the lower realm. Based on their appearances, most of them were at the age to be considered aunts and uncles.

Though for some of them, it was considered a bit of a stretch to call them uncle or aunt...

Still, it seemed like some of them were sensitive about their age, which was why they had Mu Bao Bao call them this.

It was just a good thing that they didn’t go too far with this, making her call them big brothers and big sisters. At least they had some awareness of their own age and didn’t go too far.

But it was strange seeing Mu Bao Bao treat these people differently than how she treated her father.

It almost seemed like he wasn’t her real father with the way that they acted.

However, it was also very easy to see what the difference between them was.

Even if the ministers seemed like they all pampered Mu Bao Bao, they didn’t take it too far like Mu Huang did. They seemed to respect Mu Bao Bao’s boundaries and treated her like a close friend’s child rather than trying to completely spoil her like Mu Huang did.

In the end, it could only be considered the consequences of his own actions.

Once they finished with Mu Bao Bao, their attention turned to us.

When they looked at the rest of us, it didn’t seem like they were as friendly towards us as they were towards Mu Bao Bao. Though it didn’t seem like they had any hostility towards us either.

What they were looking at us with was curiosity.

It seemed that they had some awareness of us, which wasn’t strange since the avatar that had been in the lower realm and Grandpa Bao should have relayed information about us to them in the upper realm.

When Mu Bao Bao saw that her aunts and uncles were looking at us, she took the initiative to introduce all of us.

Once she was done, they still looked at us with curious looks.

Or rather, it was better to say that they were looking at me with curious looks.

The way that they looked at me was as if they were trying to see through me.

After a while, Mu Huang gave a cough and then said, "Let’s hold court now."

At this, the ministers all returned to their positions and it seemed like they were planning on talking about something important.

It seemed like we were out of place in this hall, but Mu Huang waved his hand for us to follow him.

Since we had no idea what was happening, we followed him over to the throne where he sat down and he raised his hand for us to stop.

As he sat there looking down on us, Mu Huang suddenly said in a serious voice, "Thank you for taking care of my daughter during this time. For your actions, you will be granted an official title in our Mu Empire and you will be allowed to remain in the palace."

Then in a less serious voice, Mu Huang said, "Of course, that doesn’t mean that you’ve been approved of. It also doesn’t mean that you can get too close to my...uh!"

He stopped as he was hit by something in the head.

The one that threw this was Mu Bao Bao who had an embarrassed look on her face.

With a cough, Mu Huang regained his composure as the Nine Tails Emperor and continued by saying, "Develop at your own pace and become an expert that’s worthy of our Nine Tails Empire."

It was as if he was dismissing us, but it was clear by the way that he looked at us that this was his favour towards us. After all, all that was left was discussing official matters of the Nine Tails Empire and these were things that didn’t apply to us.

But there was something that I had to say before that happened.

"What are you hiding from us? It’s something big, or else you wouldn’t put on this kind of play." I said this in a calm voice, but the accusatory tone was heavy in my voice.

When the ministers heard this, they all narrowed their eyes to look at us.

Even Mu Huang narrowed his eyes to look at us.

Or it was better to say that all of them were looking at me, as if they were trying to figure out what I knew.
