Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 439: Act as a prodigal
I didn’t back down when I saw them looking at me like this, I just looked straight at Mu Huang and waited for his answer.
However, he didn’t say a thing as he looked at me with the same look on his face.
It was as if we had reached some kind of impasse where neither side was willing to back down.
It seemed like he wasn’t planning on saying a single thing.
That was until the silence was broken by Mu Bao Bao.
"Dad, what are you and all of the others hiding from me? I know that there’s some kind of danger that our Nine Tails Empire is facing, why are you keeping this from me?" Mu Bao Bao said this with a worried look on her face.
It might be one thing if I were to ask this, but it was a completely different matter if Mu Bao Bao asked this.
When Mu Bao Bao asked this, it wasn’t just Mu Huang who had an awkward look on his face. The rest of the ministers that were sitting around the hall all had awkward looks on their faces.
But it still didn’t seem like any of them were about to say a thing.
With the way that they slightly turned their heads to avoid Mu Bao Bao’s gaze that was sweeping around the room, it really seemed like they wanted to avoid saying anything to her.
Mu Bao Bao wasn’t deterred by the way that they all tried to avoid her as she looked right at Mu Huang.
Mu Huang just awkwardly looked away as if he was still trying to avoid her, only it was impossible to keep avoiding her like this.
So in the end, he said with a sigh, "This is a matter for the adults, you don’t have to worry about anything. Just leave it to us."
It was almost dismissive the way that he said this, but that was also what his stance was.
It was clear that he and the rest of the ministers just wanted to protect Mu Bao Bao from whatever was happening.
Mu Bao Bao looked like she couldn’t accept this result and wanted to say something else, but I suddenly reached out to grab her by the shoulder to stop her. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
She turned back to look at me with a trace of betrayal in her eyes, but I shook my head even though she had this look in her eyes.
Mu Huang looked at me with a confused look when he saw me like this, but I could also see a trace of gratitude that was there. It seemed that he was grateful towards me for stopping Mu Bao Bao from pressing this issue any further.
Though I didn’t really do this for him or the Nine Tails Empire.
I simply knew that there was no point in pressing this issue since it would be impossible to get any information from them. When they’ve already come to a decision like this, it really would be hard to change their minds.
As such, there was nothing to gain from this.
Instead, there was a better way to spend our time.
Since we had just arrived in this realm, there was only one way for us to become stronger as quickly as possible.
So there was nothing to gain from trying to get information.
Since Mu Bao Bao had stopped, Mu Huang didn’t waste any time in saying, "Someone, escort them to their new residences and help them get settled."
The way that he said this was almost as if he was sending us off, but this was just how it was.
There were several maids that came forward as if they were leading guests, so it wasn’t as if we were being treated as prisoners.
But before leaving, I asked Mu Huang, "We’re allowed to walk around the city as we want, right?"
Mu Huang was surprised to hear this, but then he said with a nod, "Of course, you’re guests of our Nine Tails Empire. You’re free to come and go from the palace as you please."
What Mu Huang never would have thought was that he would regret these words in the future.
I gave a simple nod with a smile before turning to leave.
The others had confused looks on their faces, but they still followed me out of this main hall.
As we left, one of the ministers couldn’t help asking, "Your majesty, is it really alright that we don’t tell her highness anything?"
Mu Huang had a serious look on his face as he said, "How can we tell her this?"
The ministers had strange looks on their faces when they heard this, but they eventually nodded in agreement.
They all knew what the emperor was trying to hide from Mu Bao Bao and they agreed that it was right to hide it from her. But they had watched her grow up and seeing her like this had an effect on them.
Though it wasn’t as if this didn’t have an effect on Mu Huang as well.
When he saw Mu Bao Bao like this, it also cut into his heart.
Still, he steeled himself since he knew that this was the right thing to do for her.
After coming to this decision, the atmosphere in this room completely changed as everyone suddenly focused.
"Let’s talk business now."
All of the ministers nodded in agreement when they heard this.
...
"Why did you stop me?"
After leaving the hall, before we even reached the place where we would be settling, Mu Bao Bao asked me this.
It seemed like she couldn’t wait any longer with the way that she asked this.
I looked at her calmly and said, "What would you do even if you did know? Would you have been able to help them?"
There was a strange look that appeared on Mu Bao Bao’s face when she heard this.
In the end, she said with a sigh, "It’s better knowing than not knowing."
I shook my head before saying, "For now, we have things that we need to do."
This time, everyone looked at me with confused looks.
I just calmly said with a smile, "For now, let’s go and act like prodigals."
