Way of Overlord-Chapter 293: Meeting An Ashana
Chapter 293: Meeting An Ashana
The smaller tribes, the roaming clans all seem to have known his ambitions.
Those who did not want to submit under him either quickly goes to another region or they would avoid entering his region
Those who knows it is pointless to resist and wanting to rest under the umbrella of his tribe come to him.
Aeryon accepted them all. Some were unruly and had to be reorganized. Some were obedient and gain trust quickly.
Aeryon adjusted his attitude according to the attitude of those tribes.
Those who are too arrogant should be put down a notch, those who are too weak, is to be strengthened.
Loyalty is sown among their young warriors, not to the tribes that they are in but to him and his tribe.
The banner of Brolgadhr is the one that they should be loyal to. But loyalty is not achieved in a day and Aeryon when it is something that is worth it, he could be patient
And when just he thought that he had some free time and could consult the Ashana, a letter come from Korun.
The message was quite....complicated.
Aeryon when reading the letter did not expect that the Korun has such a plan. And the words in the letter prompted another few days of talking with Mayeux.
"I never expected that old man from Korun has such a crazy idea. But, the way he chooses to do such a thing shows that he is someone that could really see the big picture. Since he could not beat me...." Aeryon laughs for a second.
Aeryon when consulting with Mayeux over the plans mentioned in the Korun tribe letter, also try to think when did the chief of Korun think of such idea?
Mayeux believe that from the moment that Brolgadhr tribe rises and then allied with Utgard, and letting Korun tribe goes to act like a buffer region between the Brolgadhr tribe and the east, that was probably the time when the Korun chief concocted such a plan.
Mayeux also deduce that only in the critical moment, that the Korun chief would send this letter.
Ofc course, the critical moment that Mayeux mention is not the critical moment for Korun tribe but a critical moment for Brolgadhr tribe.
It only works if it that way.
The fact that the Korun tribe send the plan early shows that he is confident in Aeryon strength
Mayeux suggested that Korun could always plays both sides. And maybe that is the plan of the Korun tribe from the beginning
If they waited until the critical moment between the Brolgadhr tribe and Utgard tribe, then whoever the Korun chief tribe supported could change certain things.
But now, the Korun chief tribe not only laid down all of his plans, he also tell this plan to Aeryon
Basically, he is saying, "I tell all of you all of my plan because I am determined to go to the end with you" It did not take many words for Aeryon and Mayeux to understand this implied meaning.
Aeryon when knowing the plan of the Korun tribe could not help but once again reminded himself.
Never underestimate the people of this era. They might not be as highly advanced as his civilization, but that is only because the time have not come.
When certain thing reaches its time, humans would improve almost exponentially.
The base structure for the modern civilization is not yet in place so the people of the world had to wait for it.
But that does not change the fact that the people of this era is as cunning and as resourceful as the people in the future.
He push away the thought of the last couple of days, and as he got up his horse walk towards him
"It is time to get home" Aeryon jump on the back of the horse , pull the eons and rushes back to the city.
...
Aeryon inhale and exhale. And then he inhale and exhale again.
"This place is full of scent. Yet, it did not overwhelm my senses. Instead, it seem to have such a positive effect" Aeryon thought to himself
He is inside a tent.
The tent is fill with pouches of herbs, incense burners and skulls of men and animals.
There is all kinds of hides and there is all kinds of plants being grown inside a pot
Aeryon had been into this kind of tent before.
But he never felt like this.
It seems with the prosperity of the tribe taking off, it is not only the common warriors and people of the tribe that prosper.
The Ashana prosper alongside them
The incense scent that fill his nose, it’s quite strong. But it did not give him such sensation of repulsion. Instead, the incense scent makes him feel tranquil.
Aeryon did not know what kind of incenses is this and he did not want to ask. He fears that this Ashana would begin to waste his time by telling about the history of incense and how he found it
This is the most talkative Ashana in his tribe.
Who knows what he would talk about?
How does he knows this?
Out of all the Ashana, this one is the one that roams among the tribes in the Steppe the most
And he talks a lot compared to the other Ashana.
Most Ashana would talk with short sentences, appearing mysterious and dignified
This Ashana on the other hand, while still mysterious usually spoke about fate and destiny in details.
Hence, he is the most talkative one.
But the most talkative does not mean that he annoying.
It is just that compared to the other Ashana, he speaks a little bit more.
A little bit more engaging, a little more words.
Aeryon once heard an Ashana who only answer a call to guide with only a word.
Compared to that, every persons would look like a talkative person.
Ashana is not all woman.
While woman usually does become Ashana, this does not mean that only woman could become Ashana.
Aeryon look at the Ashana in front of him.
The Ashana in front of him is an old man, he has wrinkly skin and the etches of age could be seen from his face.
He wear the ceremonial robe of the Ashana.
The tent itself is filled with all kinds of weird and bizarre things, something unexpected in other people tent but quite predictable for an Ashana
The name of this Ashana is Ashana Angah.
He is a wandering Ashana but is quite famous among the circle of Ashana to be among the most educated in the folktales and the laws and the stories of the Steppe.
Aeryon himself did not know much about Ashana and how they gained their knowledge.
This kind of knowledge is only known among the Ashana themselves. Of course, if Aeryon wanted to know, it is not like it is hard thing to do.
But it is not like Aeryon wanted to learn the lore of the Ashana and saddle himself with more work
"You seem to be thinking a lot" An old voice break Aeryon chain of thought
Aeryon was surprised when he look at the old man in front of him.
"How did you know? Is it your ability? The so called Ashana ability to see through the minds of others" hear this the old Ashana look at him, smiles and then he laugh
"Reading minds? Where did you get these thoughts?"
"then how did you know that I was thinking of something?"
The old man smiles
"Frowning forehead, unfocused eyes, it is clear you were thinking of something else. It is as obvious to me as the sun rising from the horizon"
Hearing this Aeryon also realizes it and he chuckles. Yes, there is magic in this world. But not all things have to do with magic.
Magic exist. But it is not as influential as it is thousands of years ago. Even mages is hard to see and there were more times that the so-called encounter with mages are actually an encounter with scammers.
Maybe it is because Aeryon had seen some miraculous stuff that he also expected that the Ashana also has some kind of magical power.
From the stories he remembers, the memories that he got from the original Aeryon., it is said Ashana could read minds. That is why he blurted that out unconsciously.
The old Ashana look at him and it was like he could see through him.
"Is the Kan disappointed that this old man could not see through your mind?"
Before Aeryon could even answer that question the old Ashana pose another question "Or is the Kan relieved that no one could read your thoughts?"
Aeryon who was about to say something had his tongue tied. Yes, when he think about it, the ability to read minds is a very terrifying thing.
At least it is for him.
Because Aeryon is never the kind of people that could easily open his heart to people. Even when he opens his heart, he did not share everything with people.
He shares what he wanted, but never all.
And he believes that since walk this path of conquering, this way of expansion, the way of rulers and kings and overlords, he probably would never ever have the chance to be truly honest to anyone.
But the most important reason of all, is because he has too many secrets.
