Way of Overlord-Chapter 294: Ashana Seek the Light
Chapter 294: Ashana Seek the Light
The old Ashana could sense that the Kan is also uncomfortable with the thought of someone that could read his mind .
And just because the old Ashnaa could not read minds, doesn’t mean other Ashana or other strange people in the world could not read his mind
"There is no need to worry too much that someone could read your mind, my Kan."
Aeryon frowned but his frown alone is enough to see that it is a question. And the old Ashana has always been quick in pickup up ques
"Magic has been waning for a long time. Magical creatures ...most of them are extinct. Curses and blessing is also rare in the world. Mages.....is probably would be relegated into the annals of history, of myths and of stories in just a few decades"
Aeryon is suddenly curious about something
"in this world, is there people that could read minds?"
The old Ashana nodded
"There is" Aeryon face fell almost immediately. The Ashana chuckles for a second before explaining something
"But, my Kan you must understand. The arts of reading minds is not something that is easy to master"
He smiles and continued
"And in this world where magic is waning, even if you have the ability to read minds, as long as you are someone who has great will, great fortitude in mind, powerful mental strength, it would not be easy to penetrate one mind and read it" the old Ashana then smile and added
"From the moment my Kan come in,. you have been guarded against me. Not in the physical senses but in the mental sense"
"With that kind of cautiousness, it would not be easy to read your mind, my Kan. And the more complicated the thoughts, the harder it is to decipher it. The art of reading minds is not some parlour tricks that could be trained easily. I probably know only three people in the Great Steppe that could really read mins. As for the others, mostly they are people who sues parlour tricks to tricks the ignorant"
"So, my Kan could put down your worries about mind readers"
Aeryon was fine in the beginning but when the Ashana Angah told him he knows three people that could read mins, his alertness’s heightened almost immediately.
Aeryon thought that there is no longer any mind readers in the world.
Turns out, in the Great Steppe alone there is three people. And that is three people that he now knows. What about people that he doesn’t know?
This world is wide and vast. And he doesn’t know what happens to the other parts of the world.
Just because magic is waning in this part of the world, doesn’t mean that in the other part of the world, magic is also dying
What if.....what if that in the other part of the world, magic is still very much alive?
The thought alone scared him shitless.
He heard stories of those ages of magic. There were dragons flying in the sky, mages that could wipe out a continent, warriors that could cut down heaven and earth
It was a glorious era for those people yet it is also a time of suffering for those who could not use mana, magic, Qi or whatever you want to called the energy of heaven and earth
The world had changed a lot since then.
Hence, the possibility of the world not yet void of magic, is also something tarrying for Aeryon
The more he felt like this....the more he crave power.
This thought is not the first time he thought of such thing. The more he thinks of such thing, the more he more wanted power
Like a child that is afraid of the dark, he keeps wanting to build a larger fire to drive away the darkness.
Aeryon come here to learn about the Spirit of the Steppe but now hearing about people who could read minds, how could his thoughts could still think about the Spirt of Steppe.
His thoughts and the direction that his thoughts is going is pivoting toward another topic.
Is he concerned about completing the quest that the system gave him? He is.
But as of right now, at this moment, he is more concerned about meeting such people who could read minds.
"Ashana Angah, is there a way to guard yourself against having your mind read?" Aeryon is rarely nervous.
But when he is, usually he is better at hiding it.
Maybe it is because of the scent of the incense, or maybe because he trust the Ashana to not blabber to anyone about him, or maybe, he is just that shocked after hearing that people.....people could read minds.
The old Ashana only smiles
"Did the Kan here to ask question about protecting your mind against being read? Or is it because of something else?"
Hearing this Aeryon was jolted awake. Yes, this is unbecoming of him. He look around him and he sighed. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath and then opening back his eyes, he exhale and just by doing this he centers himself back to this moment.
He is still nervous. But that nervousness now is hidden and he looks composed and calm
Aeryon snorted.
"I did come here for something else. But how could I remain calm when you said someone could read my mind. That is something more important"
Aryon himself is feeling irritable right now. He clearly did not come here to talk about old stories about old myths and ancient magic.
He clearly came for the Spirit of the Steppe and then he chuckles to himself.
That is also stories about old myths and ancient magic.
He sighed for a second.
The Ashana could see that irritation that is not really hard to see. It is obvious just by looking at the Kan face.
The Ashana waves his hand and the incense smokes that is faintly visible were waved away toward the side and the Ashana said to Aeryon
"Didn’t I say that your mind is hard to penetrate? Why worry so much about something that rarely happens?"
"You said it is hard. You did not say it is impossible"
The Ashana chuckles and nodded.
" if it would make your heart feel more at ease, you can come every day to learn to strengthen your mind"
Aeryon raises his eyes but the Ashana is smiling at him. Then he said
" As for today, I am an old man. If there is something more important to ask, you can ask before I return to my tent and take a rest" Hearing this Aeryon also knows that he had delayed things again
"I want to ask Ashana Angah if he knows how to contact the Spirit of the Steppe?"
Hearing this the Ashana raises his eyebrows and look at Aeryon
"Spirit of the Great Steppe"
"How curious" he mutters, his eyes seems to be scanning him and he then chuckles.
"How did you know such words?"
he ask but Aeryon did not answer and the Ashana knows not to pry further.
The Ashana might have read knowledge about the great Steppe but when he is dealing with the chief of tribe, he must still respect the tribe chief.
Not to mention, that the chief in front of him right now, holds the lower south under his control.
This is a true overlord of a region. With one wave of his hand, he could summon ten thousand horsemen and banners of dozens of tribes would follow him into battle, the dust that his horsemen left behind could create storms of dust.
Ashana is a title for the spiritual. To guide. Some to divine signs, some to divine destinies and some to mundane everyday life choices.
They are sometimes medium between the mortal and the divine, the unseen and the seen, the intangible and the tangible.
But.....while they are the medium of the divine, they themselves are not divine.
They hunger.
They thirst.
They feel pain.
They bleed.
And they could die.
Divine, they are not.
And hence, they still have to be wise in dispensing wisdom and guidance.
As many stories in the Steppe about dark things that happens to those who disregards the advice of an Ashana, there is as many tragic stories of those Ashana who dispense unpleasant words to the ears of the powerful.
what the Ashana pursue is the sharpening of the mind.
These warriors however sharpens their sword
And between the mind and the slash of a sword, the sword is always faster.
The mind is only powerful if it could be used. But a wrong word could send the warrior sword to cut your head before you even had the time to use your mind.
Those who said that the mind is more powerful than the sword have never spoke face to face with a belligerent warriors with a sharp sword in his hand and three feet of distance of you.
If those who said that is in that situation, his mouth that use to say those high-sounding words is silenced by the sight of a sword and a threat of death
Hence, there is some wisdom that Ashana leave to fellow Ashana. Do not eb arrogant. Judge the situation wisely.
And in the case of Ashana Angah right now, he is judging the ruler in front of him now. Is he the kind of ruler that could only hear flattery
He wanted to know what kind of ruler Aeryon is. In this world, everyone wanted to rest under a large umbrella when the weather is full of dangers.
Ashana Angah is an Ashana that has roams the four corners of the Steppe when he was young. He seeks an Overlord.
He seeks a leader.
A unifier.
