Chapter 654: Time

There is a reason for this lack of shackle

He rose with his own strength, and he alone dictated the tribe with no one able to contradict his decision as he himself is the one that brought the change to the tribe.

But there are also disadvantages of something like this. Those strategists would know and it is not Khunbish place to deduce or talk about it

But it is precisely because of this that there is a certain special rebellious element in the Khan own kingdom.

Because like it or not, the Khan is still a new force.

One might think that one just need a strong foundation. While that is true, just because the foundation is strong did not mean just focusing on the fundamentals alone could create a cohesive kingdom

Of course, Khunbish is not a nation builder, he is not a politician and wise men who could know how to govern the world.

He himself was never someone who had governed.

He is a warrior. But he had learned a lot in his time under Saron and while he never been someone who governs, he understood that a kingdom or an empire is just another big clan and family

And just like families and clans, they have interest and desire. Once you understand kingdom like this, you could somehow guess what a kingdom needs and desire.

Kingdom is just another big family. More desires and more interest.

Time.

That is what the Khan lacks.

What he lacks was never fame or strength.

The Khan has fame. From the moment he embarks on his conquest and conquered dozens of tribes and hundreds of clans under him, his fame spreads all over the Steppe

Does the Khan lack strength?

With tens of thousands of horsemen, with cities built in the Steppe, with hundreds of merchant’s caravans from the south and the north bustling through the city gates, the Brolgadhr and the Khan did not lack strength

What he lacks is time.

Sometimes, all you needed is time.

And that is what the Khan lacks.

Time for his rule to seep into the land

Khunbish himself did not understand why the Khan acted like he is being chased from behind.

Most of the problem Aeryon faces internally could be solved if he just waited.

Even the alliance between the three tribes could be solved if the Khan simply let them be.

If the Khan simply let the three tribes have some time, these three tribes would find a way to break each other trust on each other

Somehow, someday, these three tribes would find a way to weaken the other without any external enemy forcing them to unite.

Because out of the three tribe, only one of them have the vision to dream something bigger.

Instead, the Khan united them by being a common enemy of these three tribes, without giving them a chance of respite and rest.

This is one thing that Khunbish and some other wise men in the Southern Great Steppe did not understand

It is almost like he is rushing and running, chasing or being chased by something. That is what it looks like to the wise men

But that is absurd.

After all, with that kind of strength, there is no need to rush.

Of course, Khunbish and other wise men would not stop it when their enemies wanted to make a mistake.

It would be disservice to yourself if you remined the enemy of their follies.

There are many tribes under the Khan umbrella and not all of them are happy with the status quo

And these tribes, these clans bide their time.

This is not the first time an overlord has appeared, and everyone have their own wisdom

If victory is guaranteed, then this problem would never explode.

But one failure, and some tribes under the Khan would surely rebel.

Why?

Because if the west won, then these tribes that have been obediently serving the Khan, they see the hope in resisting.

Hope. That is what those rebellious forces needed. The reason they surrendered is because they see no hope in resisting.

It is a last measure. If they could only see hope.... That is what the three tribes should aspire to. To create hope

If they could just repel and hold off and force the Khan to retreat before winter.....then this could be done

An era of two regime would happen, and the Southern Great Steppe would probably be divided between the eastern and western dynasties.

The eastern dynasties probably would be divided between Dama and Aeryon, and the western dynasties would be ruled by the three tribes

But he also has another prediction. He believes if Aeryon failed to conquer the west in this first expedition, it does not mean he would fail to conquer it tomorrow

Aeryon is a born ruler a hero that every warrior in the Southern Great Steppe admired regardless of their allegiance

Even Saron would have to admit that he respects Aeryon as a hero.

Aeryon conduct himself like the ancient heroes of old.

He never broken a promise since he had taken his reign as the chief of the Brolgadhr tribe. That is not something easy to do.

And he gave his men treatment that is only told in fairy tales

So, Khunbish deduced that regardless of the victory and losses of today, the victory would belong to the Brolgadhr.

With the hearts of men gathering towards him, an ability to take losses and the Khan own ambition, one setback would not break him

Instead, it might even strengthen his resolve even more. He would have more to prove if he failed. So, sooner or later, he would attack the west

When Jabali heard this he was also puzzled why Khunbish believed it to be so.

He simply said this is not because he is adept at strategy.

It is because he could see the hearts of these people.

And he is not even adept at seeing the hearts of the people. It is just that the Khan did not exactly hide his heart for the world.

It is declaration of his ambition.

He did not need to hide it.

For a hero like Aeryon, not hiding it would draw like-minded people to join his cause. It is a declaration of his cause and a declaration of his own strength

Hence, the more people know the better.

If Aeryon is just a simple chief without the strength, saying such ambition and aspiration to the world would only be met with mockery and condescension

But precisely because he has the power to make it come true, that declaring his intention, could him the support of many warriors in the Steppe and induce ambitious people to join his rank

There is many that follow Aeryon because they wanted to be protected, to gain fame and fortune.

But there are also many people that come to Aeryon because they wanted everlasting glory.

Those kinds of people that come for fortune and those people that come for the glory have different prerequisite.

Those famous warriors seek something else; to etch their name sin the annals of history is not a simple feat

Who among those who have their name carved in the tablets of stones and mud, those that are written on bamboo slips and bark leather, that did not do something momentous?

The names of those who fought the Yan during the time of Emperor Wu of Yan and those who fought against those evil Huo Quobing their names and stories are still revered among the campfires.

Told in winter and times of great hardship, to encourage the young and remind the old of the struggles of the past.

But all of this requires them to do something out of the ordinary.

Ordinary chief could not fulfil such desire because they dream too small. Some have large tribe but is satisfied with the status quo, guarding their small piece of land among the vast plain of the Steppe.

But someone like Aeryon who wanted to conquer the Southern great Steppe, this is a feat worth remembering, this is a feat that worth writing on the tablets and bamboo slips

To those warriors, Aeryon ambition is a bait they could not resist.

Because Aeryon ambition is an ambition that could lead them to such everlasting glory

An immortal achievement that would etch themselves in the annals of history, their taels would be told in the fireplace a thousand years from now, exalting their names and deeds like the great ancient heroes.

If Aeryon is the kind of person that hides his heart then Khunbish could not make such deduction.

But Aeryon ambition is known to all.

So, for this event, Khunbish could deduce what would happen. No, he could guess what Aeryon would do

Aeryon, if he loses his fight for the west, he would recuperate.

There might be some internal problem that would erupt if he failed but it would be nothing that could erode his power and prestige.

The worst-case scenario would be him losing a couple of the region and tribe that he had conquered.

There would be a reshuffling of interest for a while and Utgard and the east would surely take advantage of it

However, the tribe that the Khan had created would not crumble.

This is the consensus of his teacher and himself.
