What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?-Chapter 87: She Has Another Ability
It was a short walk before we reached the island where it would be the site where we would build our base of operations.
The entire island was completely flat with most of its surface covered in grass that was overgrown with only a single building around which was the electrical substation.
Aside from that, a few scattered trees and a path that led close to the edge of the island, there was nothing else around.
The bunny girls took one look at the plot of land and they were already hopping around excitedly.
"We can make use of all this space?!" Maylene asked, her eyes shining with anticipation.
Olivia nodded, "That’s the plan, yes. Feel free to inspect the area and measure whatever you might need to build a base."
Sagia rushed over to us, "You also mentioned that we would be able to read up on your technology on buildings as well?!"
"Of course. This will be a place where a God resides. We expect nothing but the best here."
Sagia nodded, "Leave it to us!! We’ll make sure to build something worthy of the Mortal God!!"
Sagia then turned to the other bunny girls and barked out some orders, prompting the bunny girls to rush out towards the centre of the field before they huddled together.
While they were busy, I turned back to Olivia, "Not that I don’t trust them but... Are we going to leave all the building to them?"
"I understand your concern, my Lord. After all, they are a group who have been limited to what they can build since they have been living underground. I gave them several engineering courses and I intend to get them to attend some engineering as well as architecture classes if they are up for it. Judging by their earlier response, it seems like they really enjoyed the courses I have given them so far."
"Huh... So they really like building stuff I take it?"
"It does seem to be that way, my Lord."
I turned back to look at the bunny girls and froze when I saw what they were doing.
Eh? They have somehow built up some kind of antenna tower or something? And there’s even a generator that they had assembled to connect to the antenna?
Where the heck did they even get the materials to do all of that?! Last I checked, they barely even brought any materials along with them!!
The only things they brought were just stuff that could fit inside the back packs they were carrying! You’re not going to tell me they somehow managed to fit an entire generator in there!!
I watched as they even brought out what looked like computer monitors to attach to the antenna which they started to inspect.
I was curious what they were doing so I approached them and peeked over their heads to see what they were using the antenna for.
The screen that they had used to connect to the antenna seemed to be showing some kind of scan of the entire island and was even displaying topographical and material data of the surrounding area.
I couldn’t help but mutter, "How?"
The bunny girls jumped in surprise at my presence.
Maylene turned to me, "O... Oh! Qing! You’re still here!"
I blinked at her, "Errr? Yes? I mean... I was just standing there the entire time?"
Sagia also panicked, "Ah... Did... Did you see?"
See? See what? What is she talking about? Is she referring to the screen?
If she is, then the answer is yes.
I was just about to affirm that I did indeed see the screen before Maylene shook her head, "Forget it, Sagia... After all they have done for us... I think it would be rude of us to still hide this..."
Maylene turned to me and took a moment to suck in a breath, "I... Qing... You know about my power, right? And why I am in the position I was in to scavenge?"
"Err... The one where you can move very fast? That’s why you play the role of being the one that goes out to scavenge for materials because you can run from the Anomalies?"
"That isn’t my only power... There’s others amongst us who also have the ability to run faster... But the main reason why I’m the one who scavenges for the colony is because of this..."
She stuck her hand into her bag and pulled out something that looked like a miniature version of the generator that was beside the antenna.
Maylene dropped it on the ground on the other side of the first generator and it started to wobble before it started to expand itself until it was the same size as the normal sized generator.
Olivia stared at the new generator for a moment before nodding at her, "You have the ability to change the size of something?"
She nodded, "That’s right. I can shrink and expand things I touch to a certain limit in size."
I sucked in a breath, "Did you... Shrink yourself... And your entire colony?"
She chuckled, "Ahaha~ I guess that’s also possible if you think about it... But no, this is our natural size and I did not change us. Although..."
I raised an eyebrow, "Although?"
"Ah! Nothing! Umm... Or actually... There is something else but it’s not important at the moment... We’ll tell you once we are more settled in, Qing."
Err... Ok? I guess I should focus more on the biggest issue here which was the fact that she has this ability which she decided to hide from us like it’s a really big deal?
"I don’t understand why you want to hide this though? Is this really that big of a deal?" I asked, genuinely confused.
The bunny girls looked up at me in surprise.
"You... Don’t care about this?" Saria asked.
I looked at Olivia, "I dunno? Should I care? I mean... The ability is useful for sure... And I also understand why you might not want to share the nature of your power with people you just met... But why hide it like it’s something that would change your position if it’s revealed or something?"
The bunny girls all shared a look with each other before turning back to me. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Sagia sighed, "I suppose... It’s our mistake as well... We had been using the common sense of our World on you... I’m assuming there isn’t any conflict in this world?"
I raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean by that?"
"There’s no conflict right? That is... If you don’t count fighting the Anomalies as a conflict."
"You mean like... Fighting between the people in this World?"
"Yes. Everyone is living peacefully together right?"
I grimaced, "Err... Not really... I mean... There aren’t any major wars happening but there’s definitely still minor conflicts around..."
Even though the Mortal Gods of each alliance basically stops an all out war from the different factions... There’s still minor skirmishes happening from time to time under the guise of insurgents or terrorist organisations that everyone knows were sponsored by specific countries.
Additionally, they also engage in covert operations just like what was attempted with me where they tried to assassinate me.
From what I heard, sometimes the Mortal Gods of those countries might even take part in their own clandestine operation away from the public eye.
That revelation seemed to surprise the bunny girls as they looked up at me with wide eyes.
"Then... Are... Are you going to... Send me off... To a war?" Maylene asked, her body actually shaking.
I chuckled, "Oh, no, no... Don’t worry. While our world isn’t exactly completely peaceful, we aren’t at war right now. And even if we are... I don’t think you would have to participate either."
She shuddered, "Rea... Really?"
"I’m more confused on why you would even think that you wo--"
I stopped myself when I realised why.
From the demonstration earlier, it’s clear that the weight of the things she shrinks would also decrease so she’s able to carry them along like toys.
I’m not sure if the shrunken versions would also function just as well as their normal sized variants but... If you imagine her just flying over a place and carrying an entire bagload of miniaturised bombs which she could drop over an area and return them back to normal... The amount of damage she could do would be immense.
But...
I shook my head, "You don’t need to worry. If a war actually breaks out, the Mortal Gods would be the ones on the front lines instead."
At least... That’s what I believe.
I had no delusions to believe that I would be safe in the back lines if another country were to try and declare war on us after all. Even if I wasn’t sent out to the very front, I would definitely be deployed.
Luckily, I don’t think that’s going to happen any time soon.
Maylene let out a sigh of relief, "Tha... Thank you Qing."
I nodded at her until I realised that Olivia had been silent this entire time.
Wait... Please tell me that I wasn’t wrong, Olivia...
