On the screen, I watched as the assassins all filed into the building, their weapons all ready and raised to shoot at anyone they might see.

They ascended the stairs in a single file and the lead assassin frowned when he saw the rows of doors on the second floor.

"How do we know which one they're in?" The guy asked.

"Just break down the doors to each one and shoot anyone inside. We don't need to worry about collateral damage," The one behind him answered.

They went up to the first door and he tried to open the door, finding it to be left surprisingly unlocked.

The lead guy used his rifle to push the door in, using it to lead the way into the room.

He had his finger on the trigger as he peeked inside, checking around the room to see if there was anyone inside.

He paused before turning back, "The place is empty dude."

"Hmph… Next room then."

As they moved further in, there was a sudden slam coming from the first floor that made them jump in surprise.

When the people below looked back, they realised that metal shutters had slammed down in front of both shutters, effectively locking the assassins inside.

"Fuck! It's a trap! They trapped us in here!" One of them shouted.

The assassins seemed to descend into a panic and a few of them ran towards the metal shutted to start banging their fists against it. ƒreewebɳovel.com

I thought they would actually go into full blown panic mode until one of them shouted at them.

"All of you stop!!"

Everyone froze to look at the guy who shouted at them.

"Can't believe you guys would panic over something like this. We know they are inside here so we just need to kill them and then find out how to unlock the shutters. If they aren't here that means there's another route out so we don't need to worry!"

The assassins visibly relaxed after they heard him and all of them turned their attention to the stairs once again, advancing as a group.

Ragbar clucked his tongue beside me, "Tch… I was hoping that they would be divided and too panicked to work together… Oh well, this only makes things a little more difficult but not impossible for us."

He turned to look at me and I nodded, indicating I was ready.

I turned and left the room, leaving Ragbar alone and letting the door shut behind me. Valiea and the three androids had already moved to their own positions in preparation to ambush them so all I need to do is to get to my own spot as well.

I crept to the top of the stairs and waited there, peeking over the railing to see the assassins advancing towards the second door.

They didn't bother with subtlety since it was clear we already knew they were there, so the guy tried to breach into the room by kicking the door, only to find it stuck in place.

Well… It's a sliding door made of metal so what did he expect? These guys really are dumb.

Not surprising because Ragbar pretty much told me these were just some thugs that the rich people threw some money at and they used that money to buy the gear they have and got overconfident.

You need quality over quantity man…

In the end, that guy still had to open the door using the console at the side of the door before peeking inside, only to find that the room was empty as well so they moved to the third one.

Once again, the third room was also empty and I could tell a few of them were lowering their guards at this point because of the two empty rooms.

So when the guy approached the fourth room, he was completely unprepared for the door to slide open on its own before he could reach the console.

The android that had been hiding behind the door blasted the cannon that it had for an arm at the assassin standing at the door.

His shield flared for a moment before it shattered, allowing the android to fire the second cannon on its other hand to blast the guy flying back.

His corpse flew back to crash against the railing on the stairs before flipping over to fall on top of the assassins that were unfortunate enough to be under there when he fell over.

Then, despite having already checked the first room to be empty, the door suddenly slid open and the second android started shooting at the assassins that were there as well, quickly gunning down two of them before they could even realise they were being attacked.

I have to say, Ragbar and Valiea really designed this place to be a death trap… There's secret doors that allowed them to move between all the rooms including secret stairs leading from the rooms on the third floor to the second floor so they would be able to ambush their attackers at anywhere they choose.

Before those assassins could fire back, the doors suddenly slid closed, preventing them from attacking the androids.

"What's going on?!"

"We're under attack!!"

"Get that door open right now!!"

The assassins were back into panic mode as they got confused over who was attacking them.

Taking advantage of the confusion, the second door in the corridor slid open to reveal Valiea with her four SMGs that she immediately fired upon the first assassin she saw.

The guy didn't stand a chance as he got riddled with holes and fell against the railing, the bullets pinning him to the railing for a moment before he slid down onto the ground.

The door once again slid closed before anyone could fire back at her, clearly frustrating the assassins.

"Break down those doors!!" One of them shouted, and I took that as my cue to appear.

I stepped out to stand on top of the stairs and rested the light machine gun on the railing, pointing the barrel down at the assassins before holding down the trigger.

Yep, that's the weapon I chose to take out from their armoury.

A hail of bullets rained down on the assassins below me, the high calibre rounds quickly overwhelming their defenses and shattering their shields.

I watched as four of them were mowed down like weeds falling to a scythe, the assassins standing no chance against the onslaught.

They shot back at me but my shield held strong against their attacks.

Only when I heard the warning beeps from my personal shield indicating it was about to break did I duck back into cover to avoid the bullets shot in my direction.

Before they could chase after me though, three of the doors opened and the two androids and Valiea quickly opened fire on the remaining assassins, their shields already down thanks to my light machine gun.

Half of them fell very quickly and I saw one of them try to rush towards Valiea to engage in close combat.

The bartender dropped two of her guns to free up her bottom pair of arms to reach out and grab the guy's wrist, preventing him from getting close.

He realised he fucked up when her two upper arms pressed her SMGs against the guy's chest but he could do nothing but watch as Valiea emptied the clip into the guy's chest.

She then kicked him out of the room right before the door slid closed again, preventing anyone from attempting the same thing.

At this point, with only about a quarter of their numbers left, the assassins seemed to have realised that they were probably not going to be able to fulfil their mission so about half of the remaining assassins turned tail to run.

When they reached the first floor however, turrets popped out from the ceiling and started shooting at them.

As if that wasn't enough, drones also flew out from unseens corners and started firing their attached weapons at the assassins that were trying to flee as well, all of them being controlled by the last android hiding in another room.

I didn't have time to check how it was going as three of the assassins decided to charge up the stairs, probably thinking that they might as well try and take me out.

I raised the machine gun to rest it against the railing so that I could hold it in one hand while I reached behind to pull out my shotgun with my other hand.

The first guy managed to reach halfway up the steps before I peeked out and fired my shotgun at him, the shield buster round immediately shattering his shield.

He had only a second to regret his life choices before I pulled the trigger on the machine gun.

His body flew back and crashed into the guy behind him, sending both of them tumbling down the stairs towards the third guy.

Surprisingly, the third guy actually managed to avoid them by jumping over them as they rolled down, the guy continuing his climb up the steps without hesitation.

For his confidence, all got was another shogun blast from me that broke his shield before he was also peppered with a hail of bullets from my machine gun, throwing him back down to join the other two idiots.

The remaining assassins were cleaned up by the others and in less than five minutes since the assassins got up here, they were all dead or dying while bleeding out.

So… Can I loot now?
