What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 812: Facing The Insurgents
"How many are there?" I groaned.
There was a pause before Renata answered, "The scanners are showing eight ships, Daddy... Four B Class Heavy Fighters and Four B Class Heavy Interceptors..."
"Oh... That doesn’t sound too bad..."
"Eh? Um... A new ship just jumped in... That’s a D Class Freighter, Daddy..."
I frowned, " A freighter ship? Don’t tell me they’re here to trade?"
"Ah... It seems like they have repurposed the freighter into a ship carrier, Daddy... They’re launching their entire wing of fighters and bombers right now..."
Shit... Those right ships that jumped in first must have been the scouting group sent to make sure the place was clear before their improvised ship carrier jumped in...
"Are you serious?!! Why the heck are they even attacking this place?!" I cried out.
Yumiko tapped her cheek, "If I may guess, Mistress... I believe they might be after the new generation Exo-Knights. Perhaps they believe that if they can get their hands on them, it would turn things around for them."
I made a face, "Are the tenth generation Exo-Knights supposed to be that good?"
"I’m not sure that it would be able to fight an entire fleet by itself since that’s not what they’re designed for... But a skilled pilot could probably manage to pull it off. What I believe is that they’re just trying to get whatever advantage they could even if they aren’t sure it would be an advantage or not."
So basically... They’re desperate... Got it...
"How is the security team doing then?" I asked.
Renata paused again before she answered, "Umm... They are mobilising but it looks like they are vastly outnumbered by the insurgents, Daddy..."
Guess we have no choice then...
"Ready the Verlandi, I’m launching out to help the defense. Will you be able to undock this ship and help out as well, Renata?"
"Of course Daddy! Leave it to me!"
"Contact the station and let them know that we will also be sortieing to aid them in the station’s defense!"
"Already done, Daddy!"
I turned to Yumiko, "Do you want to stay here or go with me?"
"What help would I be if I were to go with you, Mistress?" She asked.
"The Verlandi has a railgun turret that can be manually controlled so if you want to be my gunner for it, you can have that."
"In that case, please allow me to accompany you, Mistress!"
I nodded at her and the both of us rushed towards the hangar where my Verlandi was stowed.
The ship also started to move as Renata detached the ship from the station, engaging the engines to start moving the ship within firing range of the enemy ships.
I entered the hangar with Yumiko following close behind, my ship’s hoarding ramp already lowered and waiting for me.
I ran inside the ship to find a yellow haired Renata waiting for me inside.
"The ship is ready to go, Daddy!"
Thanks Renata~
I gave her a quick kiss before I rushed to the cockpit, taking a moment to point at the console where Yumiko should take a seat to control the turret in question.
I flipped the switches to start it up as I retracted the ramp and fired up the generators on the ship.
A quick inspection of all the systems showed that all systems were ready to go.
"Ready to launch," I announced into the comms.
The hangar bay doors then opened as the docking arms prepared to drop us out of the ship.
"All green, Daddy! Good luck!!"
The docking arm dropped us and my ship fell out of our ship before I engaged the thrusters, speeding away from the Iridescence.
Checking the map, it looks like Renata wasn’t kidding about the security team being outnumbered as I was looking at a sea of red as opposed to just a handful of blue dots on the map.
Looking out the windshield of the cockpit, the same situation was reflected in front of me as a whole mass of fighters and bombers that were currently making their way towards us.
It seems like the freighter wanted to remain outside of the station’s defense platform’s firing range so it was staying far away from the current ’activity’ that was going to happen soon.
The security forces of the station were also staying close to the station instead of rushing forward to meet the enemy, trying to stay within the protective range of the defense platforms so that they would at least have a chance in this fight.
Of course, with odds like this, a defensive battle would be preferred if we wanted to stand a chance.
"Yumiko? Status?" I asked without turning back.
"All systems are green, Mistress! We’re ready to engage!"
I pushed the thruster level forward and my ship shot off towards the defense line, joining the patrol ships that were forming up to face off against the insurgents.
A call immediately came through and I tapped on the screen to answer it, revealing a guy wearing a pilot’s suit complete with a full faced helmet appearing on the screen.
"Are you the Mercenary that is here to help us?" He asked.
I nodded, "Tera of the Teran Mercenary Company. Here to assist."
"We could use more than just a-- Holy crap! Is that a Verlandi?!! Guys!! That’s a fucking Verlandi! Holy shit!!"
Oh wow, been a while since I’ve seen that reaction.
I cleared my throat, "Ahem... Yes, it’s a Varlandi... You can marvel at it after we deal with these insurgents."
He quickly composed himself and cleared his throat, "Ahem... Yes... As I was saying... We need more than just a single ship to help but I guess we’ll take whatever we can get... We’ve already notified the local military force but they seem to be jamming our signals so it might take a while before we can hack their jammers and get our distress call through."
"What are our chances?"
"Not good... They should also be mobilising the Exo-Knights as well but I don’t know how helpful they will be here..."
I raised an eyebrow, "Hmm? I thought those things were supposedly on the level of fighters and bombers anyway? So they should at least be a good enough addition to our defense?"
"Yeah... But unless they go and take the time to arm them... They don’t have the firepower to take down that Freighter... Also... I heard the pilots were called away to test another simulation so it might take a while for them to sortie..."
Wait... I just realised... You’re telling me the test pilots are also working as the security team on the station? That sounds awfully inefficient?
Then again... They probably never had a threat this big until today...
"Good thing we have a big ship on our side as well then~" I mused.
Right as I said so, The Iridescence showed up behind us, looming over us like a protector as it turned on its broadside to bring its guns to bear.
The guy looked up as my ship came into his view and it must have been a glorious sight for them too as the turrets rotated into place.
"Damn... Even a Broadsword Combat Freighter? We might actually stand a chance then."
Hmm hmm~ That’s right~ 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Their improvised ship carrier might be a D Class but its main purpose was originally to haul cargo and not meant for combat, meaning in a direct confrontation, it would be really weak.
Our Iridescence, on the other hand, is a combat freighter. It’s designed to be able to penetrate through warzones and battlefields to get cargo to where it needs to go while also holding its ground against combat ships of similar or even bigger classes.
So in a straight up fight, we’re beating that ship hands down.
The other side definitely knows this, which was why the moment my ship appeared, they actually pulled back even further, as though it was already getting ready to run if things went south for them.
The large wall of small ships was still speeding towards us and while we were outnumbered, we were certainly not outgunned.
I tapped on the screen to call up Renata while muting the call with the security team leader, "Renata? How are the guns?"
"They’re all ready, Daddy! But umm... Just saying... I’m not as good as Sister Lea in handling them so..."
I waved my hand, "It’s fine. Any fire support is good fire support, you don’t need to feel too pressured."
"You got it Daddy! I’ll do my best! They’ll be within firing range in thirty seconds!"
I turned to the security leader and unmuted the call, "They’ll be within firing range in thirty seconds, should we fire?"
"Hold on a moment... Ahem... Unidentified ships! You are inside a private space! Turn back now or you will fired upon!!"
I’m guessing he must be broadcasting this message to the insurgents.
He paused for a few moments before speaking again, "Unidentified ships! This is your last warning! Proceed any further and it will be considered an act of hostility and we will proceed to engage with lethal force! I repeat, turn back now or we will shoot!!"
No response.
Thirty seconds have passed.
He turned to me, "Fire."
I turned to Renata, "Fire."
"Wheeee!! I’m firing!!" Renata giggled cutely before she pulled the trigger.
Let’s see some fireworks!
