Chapter 1343: Want Some Western BBQ?

I actually ended up giving all three of them a flick on their foreheads as I reminded them that I wasn’t some helpless damsel that needed to be rescued.

We ended up deciding that we would end the exploration here today and left the Dungeon to return to the surface. π•—πš›πšŽπšŽπ°π—²π—―π—»πš˜πšŸπšŽπ—Ή.π•”π¨π•ž

This time, when we got out of the Dungeon, it was already early evening time.

Surprisingly, Katsuki was waiting outside the Dungeon when we emerged, like she already knew that we were planning on leaving at that exact time.

She bowed, "Welcome back Mistress. It is almost dinner time, shall we head back?"

I looked up at the sky that was tinged orange with the light of the setting sun, wondering just how much time we actually spent in just this Dungeon alone.

We obviously didn’t finish it unlike the other Dungeon we went to first since we spent way more time fighting monsters than advancing through the Dungeon.

I looked back at my three companions, "I suppose we should retire for today?"

The three of them agreed.

"So what’s for dinner?" I asked.

"Emilia has made arrangements for dinner at the inn, Mistress. Shall we head back?"

Seeing that we already decided to end the Dungeon exploration here, there’s no reason not to so that’s what we did.

I was actually thinking that it would be another normal dinner with the girls but I got back to a rather distinct smell wafting through the air.

It was a distinct meaty and smoky smell that also had the scent of spice wafting through the air, a smell that was enough to make your mouth water.

"Is that... Oh my gosh, it is... That’s barbecue isn’t it?"

Katsuki nodded, "It seems like it’s a cooking method unique to the Amraps here, Mistress. They have been slow cooking and smoking it over a wood fire since yesterday actually."

Oh wow... It really is the western barbecue... I think now I can even specifically pinpoint where exactly the Off-Worlder who came here originated from.

Not that I’m complaining because this really smells amazing and my mouth is already watering from the smell alone.

When we reached the inn, I found that the eating area was actually outside the inn and they’ve set up a sitting area in front of a large metal barrel laid on its side with flaps that opened up.

Within the flaps were the source of the mouth watering smell as I spotted ribs and briskets that have been smoked to mouthwatering perfection.

That wasn’t the only smoker as I spotted another metal barrel off to the side but the flaps were closed shut. It was definitely being used since I could see fire at the bottom peeking out from one of the smaller flaps and smoke was rising out from a small chimney at the end of the barrel.

There were a few Amraps whom I assumed were part of the inn’s staff that were busy seasoning the meat that they had made, all of them charred and smoked to perfection.

Lured in by the smell, I couldn’t help but watch as the dark skinned Amrap in charge of cutting the prepared meat into slices expertly chopped up what looked like beef briskets into smaller slices.

She had jet black hair that looked more like a lion’s mane with how it cascaded around her shoulders and she was wearing the really stereotypical cowgirl outfit with an apron tied in front of her.

Heck, she was even wearing knee high leather boots and a white, wide brimmed hat was also resting on her head.

She spotted me and gave me a soft smile before she cut up a small piece to pass it to me.

No words were exchanged as I took it with a nod of thanks before popping it in my mouth.

I bit into the meat and the juices flowed out, filling my mouth with the taste of its smoky meat flavour.

The bark around the outside of the meat had broken apart with a gentle crunch and I was greeted with the softest meat I’ve tasted in a long while, the flesh practically falling apart in between my teeth and the taste of pepper and salt spread throughout my mouth.

The fat quite literally melted on my tongue and despite my inexperience with this specific cuisine in general, I could tell that this was definitely made with care and patience.

Katsuki was definitely not exaggerating when she mentioned they started cooking this since yesterday. They must have started cooking it late at night just to be ready to serve this evening.

I’m not sure if they specially prepared this for us but looking at the piles of meat they have prepared... I think they’re expecting a lot of customers here.

If this was the quality of the meat they have, I wouldn’t be surprised that the entire village ate here so they would have to feed everyone as well.

They not only had smoked briskets and ribs but it looks like they also made bread and... Ahhhh!!! I see cookies!! Those are definitely cookies!! And is that pudding!!! Oh my gosh!! They really are!! I’m going to eat good tonight!!

I found the rest of my girls had already secured a seat in the corner closest to the inn and Emilia in particular was waving me over.

I went over to them and took a seat, my companions also following behind me to take a seat around the table.

Emilia grinned at me, "I see you like the food, Boss?"

For some reason, she looked quite smug about it like she was the one who cooked it.

I nodded, "It’s really good, I’m quite looking forward to it actually."

Odeta looked around with interest, "When I was here, I don’t think this method of cooking was that well received."

Emilia grinned, "Oh, I found the person who started this actually~ They were only making it for personal use so they didn’t think about doing it seriously. I invested in them and now this is becoming the official Amrap specialty! The wood that they use to smoke the food is especially crucial for this!"

I spun towards her, "Wait... You’re telling me the person who invented this is still around?! Are they also the one who gave the idea about the ranching and the clothes too?!"

Emilia looked surprised by my question and nodded slowly, "They’re a family actually. According to them, they came from further south and arrived here several years ago to settle here. That’s when they started introducing the things they learned from, and I quote, ’down south’ to revolutionise the Amrap communities."

I frowned, "Don’t you think that... You know..."

"Oh, that they are Off-Worlders? We know~"

I blinked at her, "Wait... You know?"

She nodded, "Our company employs several Off-Worlders Boss~ There’s no way I’m letting all that extra knowledge and information go to waste! If I don’t snatch them up, other people will! Even on the train idea that you pushed, I got some other Off-Worlders working on it too!"

I... Actually completely forgotten about the train idea...

"Where’s the family now?" I asked.

She gestured at the Amrap who had passed me a piece of the brisket earlier, "That’s the youngest daughter. The one at that smoker thing or whatever it’s called is the second youngest daughter. The middle daughter is in the kitchen right now."

I narrowed my eyes at the youngest daughter and used [Screened] on her.

I noticed the animal handling skill and I connected the dots instantly.

"They own the ranches too?"

Emilia smirked, "Oh Boss... We own the ranches."

I blinked at her for a good few seconds, "Wait... I thought... They were already doing the ranching early on even before this?"

Emilia nodded, "That’s correct, Boss. But they were only doing it on a really small scale. The animals they were tending to were only wildlife that they tamed around here. We helped them expand and brought in the animals from Lehcarouc Kingdom, Boss~ We basically bought over them and helped them expand to the size they are now~"

I looked around before whispering to her, "Umm... Are the people fine with this? Like... Are we ruining tradition and culture here?"

Right then, the black haired Amrap came over to us with an entire tray of food and plopped it right in the middle of our table.

"Right y’all! Food is served! Please enjoy!"

She then strutted back to the cutting station, her hips wiggling back and forth hypnotically as she walked.

Emilia gestured at the food, "With this kind of thing being introduced to them, no one is complaining, Boss~"

Ok, fair enough.

But now I’m wondering... Just how far does your influence reach now, Emilia?
