Chapter 28: First day at school

Jessica’s POV.

The grand entrance to Langford University had always left me in awe. Despite never having set foot on campus, the university’s majestic appearance on TV had captivated me.

I knew that if I were to further my education, Langford would be my top choice. Its exceptional reputation and impressive alumni network, boasting of renowned jewelry designers, solidified my resolve.

Jewelry design had always been my passion, but I had no idea it was ingrained in my DNA. As I later discovered that my Silverwood family’s involvement in the jewelry business was more than just a coincidence - it was my birthright.

The talent coursed through my veins, and I longed to pursue a career in jewelry design. However, my adopted parents’ had killed my dream before it began.

Later, when I married Liam, I thought continuing my education would be seamless, but who would have known that I traded my peace, mental heath, and talent to be his wife? Because, while I was still his wife, I lost my zeal to return to school.

But those days are behind me now. I’ve found my morale. I’m ready to forge my path in the jewelry industry, and nothing will stand in my way.

With renewed purpose, I squeezed the strap of my backpack and stepped through the university’s gates, eager to explore this new Chapter of my life.

As I walked through the entrance, I took in the beautiful scenery. The campus stretched before me, with modern academic buildings, state-of-the-art research facilities, and performance spaces.

I made my way to the registration building, my heart racing with excitement and a hint of nervousness. As I approached, I noticed a small crowd of students waiting ahead of me. Taking a deep breath, I joined the queue.

The line moved swiftly, thanks to the online registration process already being completed. We were merely here for confirmation and to collect our student packages. Before long, it was my turn.

I stepped forward and greeted the registrar, exchanging pleasantries as I handed over my confirmation documents. The registrar efficiently verified my information, handed me a sleek package, and welcomed me to Langford University.

The package or kit, as it was called, was supposed to hold my student ID, locker keys, student handbook, school map, and everything else.

With the box in hand, I felt an official sense of belonging. Walking out the building, I opened the box to take out the school map, that was when I bumped into someone. I yelped as I lost my balance and fell backwards.

As I stumbled backward, time seemed to slow down. But before I could hit the ground, a strong hand grasped mine, pulling me into a steady embrace. I found myself nestled in the warmth of a muscular chest, my face inches from a rugged jawline.

"Whoa, easy there!" a deep, soothing voice whispered in my ear.

I pushed back, my cheeks flushing as I regained balance. "Oh, I’m so sorry!" I exclaimed, freeing myself from the unexpected hug.

As I took in his appearance, I gulped. He was extremely handsome, tall and sturdy. His dark hair was ruffled in an imperfectly perfect style, which framed his face, giving way for his underworldly good looks to be admired.

The first few buttons on his black shirt were opened, showing me a glimpse of his chest, his sleeves were rolled up his strong arms, revealing his protruding veins and dark inked tattoos. He wore a black stud in one ear, and a lollipop dangled between his teeth.

His aura screamed bad boy, but there’s something about him that drew me in. Perhaps it was the hint of vulnerability behind his piercing gaze or the subtle curve of his lips, suggesting a wicked sense of humor.

"No harm done. Are you okay?" he asked, flashing his charming smile and revealing a soft dimple on one cheek that made him irresistibly attractive.

I nodded, still feeling the warmth of his touch, my heart stirring. I cleared my throat. "Yeah, thanks to you." freёnovelkiss.com

We stood there for an awkwardly pleasant moment, our hands still clasped together. Then, he released mine, and I took a step back.

"I’m Max," he said, his voice low and smooth.

"I’m..." I hesitated, my mind still reeling from the sudden encounter. "I’m Jessica," I replied.

"Nice to meet you, Jessica," Max said, his smile widening. "Welcome to Langford University. I see you’re getting settled in."

He nodded toward the box and papers that had fallen to the floor. I lowered my myself to pick my things up and he joined me, asking;

"You’re a jewelry design major, right?"

"How did you know?" I asked, surprised. The things on the floor didn’t say anything about my major. He was holding my map and I had the closed box with me.

"I overheard you talking to the registrar," Max admitted with a chuckle. "Plus, I’ve seen that look before – excitement mixed with a dash of nervousness."

I laughed as we rose, feeling at ease with this guy. "Guilty as charged."

"I’m a year three student," Max shared, "studying the same course as you, and also the president of the Jewelry Design Club."

My eyes widened with surprise. "Really? What a coincidence." I was intrigued. I had thoughts to join clubs and communities to help with my progress and I never thought that the first person I’d see, on my first day in school, was the president of the club himself.

"I know, right?" Max chuckled. "I guess fate wanted us to meet. We’re always looking for fresh talent and enthusiasm in the club."

I nodded eagerly. "I’d love to join. I was thinking of exploring clubs and communities to enhance my skills and network anyway."

Max beamed, his smile was charming, just like his looks. "Perfect timing! Our next meeting is tomorrow at 3 PM in the Art Building. I’ll send you the details."

He pulled out his phone and waved it in my face, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "I think communication would be easier if I have your number."
