Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 127: She Helped You So Much and You Gave Her the Good Guy Card?
Elara and Zion Fitzwilliam spent a whole day at the hospital and finally left under the strong persuasion of Yvette Sommers and David Hales.
In the following days, Elara visited the hospital daily after work. To her surprise, Yvette Sommers was very enthusiastic each time and took excellent care of her father.
Her father was somewhat incredulous and privately pulled her aside to ask, "Did you say something to Auntie Yvette? She’s changed so much lately. Not only is she tirelessly taking care of me, but she’s also very considerate, just like three years ago."
Three years ago, when Yvette Sommers first started taking care of David Hales, she was just as diligent and enthusiastic.
David Hales always felt a bit uneasy with it.
Elara was also puzzled and thought for a moment before saying, "Maybe she’s afraid that once you’re better, you’ll kick her out. Although she needs tough guys to take care of you now, she earns over ten thousand a month, which is not easy money for her. Or maybe she’s come to her own realizations, or perhaps Aidan has spoken to her. However, why she’s like this isn’t important, as long as she takes good care of you, that’s enough."
David Hales nodded at this; indeed, as a couple halfway through life, actions matter more than intentions.
Elara was reassured once she confirmed that Yvette Sommers wasn’t secretly mistreating her father. After leaving the hospital and returning to the company, she received a call from Zara Dalton, "Elara, are you free tonight? I’ve asked Esther Carter to send me off."
This guy, without knowing what he’s been through lately, sounds a lot more steady.
Elara asked, "The job Zion asked about for you, it’s settled?"
Zara joyfully said, "Yes, it’s settled, I’m flying tomorrow. I’ve hidden this from my parents. When I make a name for myself abroad, I’ll give them a big surprise."
Elara was also happy for him and said, "Alright, send me the address, and I’ll bring Zion Fitzwilliam along tonight?"
Zara hesitated for a moment, "Alright."
He was a bit afraid of Zion, but thinking about having a chance to leave his current life, it was all thanks to him, and he indeed needed to thank him properly before leaving.
After agreeing with Zara, Elara sent a message to Zion Fitzwilliam, and after a while, he called her back.
"Are you sure you want to bring me tonight?" the man’s voice was filled with laughter, low and pleasant. "Won’t it make you all uncomfortable? It’s your last gathering before leaving. You should have fun."
Elara was puzzled, "Why would you make us uncomfortable? Weren’t you getting along well with Zara and Esther Carter before?"
On the other end of the line, Zion Fitzwilliam was silent for a while and then said, "Alright, I’ll pick you up later."
Everyone else understood his identity now, except for her.
Thinking of how Esther Carter and Zara would act timidly and not dare to speak whenever they saw him, Zion couldn’t help but chuckle. He aimed to be more approachable tonight, after all, they were her good friends, and he needed to make an effort to win them over.
Only, being approachable was somewhat challenging for him.
After hanging up, Zion Fitzwilliam paused to think and then called in Assistant Harris.
"President Fitzwilliam, any instructions?" Assistant Harris asked respectfully.
Zion Fitzwilliam asked, "What’s it like to be friends with ordinary people?"
Assistant Harris was taken aback, "Ah?... Could you elaborate? I don’t quite understand."
Zion Fitzwilliam sat there with a furrowed brow, which would make an outsider think he was signing a multi-billion-dollar deal. After a long contemplation, he finally said, "How can I become more approachable?"
Assistant Harris was stunned. Did he hear that right? President Fitzwilliam wanted to be approachable?
He wanted to say that with his status, there was naturally a barrier between him and ordinary people. Forget about being approachable, being able to mingle would be more like it!
Of course, Miss Hale was an exception, but Miss Hale was an exception because President Fitzwilliam was willing to lower himself; he enjoyed it.
Being approachable to others... unless someone was truly precious to him, otherwise, how could he possibly come down from his pedestal?
Zion Fitzwilliam, seeing that Assistant Harris wasn’t speaking, guessed he wouldn’t hear any valuable suggestions and impatiently waved him off, "Alright, go out."
He needed to think it over again.
At six in the afternoon, Elara finished work. As she descended the stairs, she immediately saw Zion Fitzwilliam’s car parked there. He was standing next to the car, without a phone in hand, and was intently looking in the direction of the company building, waiting for her.
Elara felt touched; she had no resistance to this version of Zion Fitzwilliam.
Zion Fitzwilliam waved to her, and Elara walked over quickly.
In the front passenger seat were two bottles of wine and a delicately boxed cake, which made Elara pause. She was about to close the car door and move to the backseat when Zion had already moved the items to the back, explaining, "I bought these on the way, didn’t have time to put them away. Just sit in the front."
Elara curiously asked, "Why did you buy these things?"
Zion Fitzwilliam, holding the steering wheel and driving calmly, replied, "Since it’s a send-off, it should be ceremonial. I picked up a cake to celebrate."
Elara laughed, "That’s so you. Esther Carter and I would’ve never thought of doing something like this. Zara really needs to thank you."
Zion Fitzwilliam just smiled without saying anything.
When they arrived at the private room, Esther Carter and Zara, upon seeing Zion Fitzwilliam, instinctively stood up respectfully. They were stunned when they saw the wine and cake he brought. Was he really this ceremonial?
Without having changed clothes or washed their hair, wasn’t this disrespectful to such a big shot?!
Zion Fitzwilliam was puzzled as to why the two suddenly became so reserved. Hadn’t he bought wine and a cake; wasn’t that approachable enough?
Even when he got closer, they instinctively stepped back three paces. Even Elara noticed something was off, "What are you two up to?"
Zara and Esther Carter laughed awkwardly; how could they explain? Could they say it was because they hadn’t washed their hair in three days and were afraid of offending the big shot?
She might dare to listen, but they didn’t dare say it.
Luckily, after they sat down and started drinking, the alcohol gave them courage, and the atmosphere gradually warmed up.
Zara raised a glass to Zion Fitzwilliam, "Brother, no more words, but thank you for this." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
His gratitude was genuine. Growing up, not a single thing was within his initiative to strive for. His path had long been drawn by his parents, allowing no deviation. Coming out was his biggest rebellion of a lifetime.
He had considered other paths, but once he deviated from his parents’ requirements, he’d be forcibly dragged back to the "right path," and this time, he not only escaped the marriage with the Sommers Family but also embarked on a path completely different from his parents’ expectations.
If it weren’t for Zion Fitzwilliam’s help, he would never have had the chance to take this path.
Calling Zion his second set of parents wasn’t an exaggeration.
Zion raised his glass and clinked it with his, genuinely wishing, "Wish you all the best."
He didn’t share Zara’s depth of emotion. Firstly, such matters were just a trifling errand for him, just a few phone calls. Secondly, he was doing this for Elara. Elara cared about Zara’s life, and he just didn’t want her to worry.
Esther looked at Zara, saying, "Finally showed some backbone, not bad. This time you handled things like a man, but what about your parents? They’ll go crazy when you leave, won’t they?"
As Zara poured herself a drink, she replied, "I don’t know, the Sommers Family might find it a bit difficult, but it shouldn’t be a big problem. My dad has worked in this field for so many years, although he hasn’t achieved much success, it’s not easy to topple him."
Elara asked, "Not telling them before you leave? Contacting them only after you go abroad?"
Zara gave a bitter smile, "I didn’t even dare to charge the tickets on my credit card, afraid they’d notice something. If they found out, I definitely wouldn’t be able to leave."
Esther laughed like a quail and nudged Elara, "Do you know how he got the money for his ticket?"
Elara was equally puzzled; Zara usually relied on his family’s credit card to get by, without using a credit card, where did he get the money for a ticket?
Esther suppressed her laughter and explained to her, "This kid smashed his childhood piggy bank."
She burst out laughing and Elara followed suit, "To push him to this extent, that’s impressive."
Zara, feeling humiliated by the laughter in front of the great Mr. Fitzwilliam, protested indignantly, "My piggy bank, untouched since I was ten, bought a forty thousand dollar ticket. Is that so funny?"
Esther and Elara’s smiles froze on their faces.
Someone’s ten-year-old piggy bank could hold forty thousand dollars and wasn’t touched for over a decade!
Meanwhile, the two of them, one was earning a meager twenty thousand salary in a tough job, and the other was making pocket change through acting.
At that moment, two thirty-year-old old girls, gently shattered.
Zion sensed the awkward atmosphere and quickly raised his glass, "No matter what, we wish Zara all the best in her future endeavors."
Zara was moved to tears, "Great Mr. Fitzwilliam, with such words from you, I have no regrets."
He didn’t realize his slip of the tongue, but Esther did, kicking him hard under the table. Once he realized, his face turned pale as he sheepishly checked the expressions of Elara and Zion, only relaxing when he saw no unusual reactions.
Midway through the meal, Elara went to the restroom, and Esther followed her. Emerging from the bathroom, Esther washed her hands while curiously asking, "How far have you and your Mr. Fitzwilliam gotten?"
Elara paused for a moment, "What do you mean by ’how far’?"
Esther was incredulous, "You’re kidding, right? You two have a real marriage certificate. Don’t tell me there hasn’t been any of ’that’ yet?"
Elara caught on to her meaning, blushed immediately, and said a bit awkwardly, "Where is your mind wandering? We have a marriage of convenience; he likes men."
Esther looked at her with a teasing smile, "Stop kidding. If he likes guys, I’ll give you my head to kick around like a ball. You’ve lived together for half a year, haven’t you noticed anything suspicious?"
"Suspicious about what?" Elara’s heart started racing involuntarily.
"Think about it. If he wasn’t interested in you, would he be so eager to help Zara?" Esther was nearly rendered speechless, "Ever since your divorce, how much has he helped you? Elara Hale, don’t be so ungrateful, it’s been six months!"
Even though Esther’s words were unsettling, Elara still explained, "He’s helping because he’s a good person, really loyal."
"You believe that?" Esther looked at her incredulously.
"I do." Elara frowned, earnestly explaining, "Zion is very kind, he’s good to everyone."
Esther looked at her like she was a fool, "Someone helped you, helped your dad, and your friends, and you just give them a ’good person card’?"
Elara inexplicably began to feel annoyed, not wanting to continue this topic, "Stop thinking about irrelevant stuff, let’s head back."
Esther grabbed her, squinting, "Your reaction isn’t right. Tell me honestly, do you have..."
Elara lowered her head like a guilty child, "...maybe... a little."
After a pause, she hurriedly explained, "But that’s only because he’s an amazing person, I should really not like him, just admiring him from a friend’s perspective..."
Esther crossed her arms and started tapping her foot, wearing a ’go on, keep talking’ expression. Elara’s voice unconsciously softened, but she insisted, "It’s definitely not that kind of feeling."
"Fine, if you say it’s not, it’s not." Esther’s expression was fully understanding, feeling for her friend, once bitten by a snake, she’s now afraid of ropes, she added, "Actually, Mr. Fitzwilliam himself is quite a good option."
Elara nodded, internally adding: if he wasn’t gay.
Esther opened her mouth but finally said nothing. If she were to break that window, the great Mr. Fitzwilliam would probably kill her.
However, seeing the overall development between them was positive, she felt at ease.
Elara returned to the booth casually, but her mind kept replaying Esther’s words: If he were interested in guys, I’ll give you my head to kick around like a ball. Someone helped you, helped your dad, helped your friends, and you just give them a ’good person card’?
It’s often said those involved are blind, is it possible that Esther’s words held some truth?
Realizing what she was thinking, Elara quickly suppressed such thoughts. Dreams may be unrealistic, but such an absurd dream shouldn’t occur.
Is she money for people to desire her, how can she be so narcissistic?
Although she appeared calm, she unknowingly drank a few extra glasses. When the gathering was over, Elara was already a bit dizzy. Esther disliked her state and supported her, handing her over to Zion at the venue entrance, saying meaningfully, "Mr. Fitzwilliam, we are entrusting Elara to you."
Drunk and handed over, you can do as you please.
Zion gentlemanly placed his arm on Elara’s elbow without any inappropriate gestures, nodding in response, "Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her."
Esther clicked her tongue.
Thought to be a perfect couple, turns out they’re both blockheads.
She was about to clarify when Zara quickly covered her mouth and smiled at Zion, "Mr. Fitzwilliam, take care."
Watching Zion’s car drive away, Esther bit Zara’s hand hard. Zara screamed and let go, covering his hand and cursing, "What the hell, are you a dog!"
"Why did you cover my mouth?" Esther looked poised for a fight.
Zara was speechless at her, "Didn’t you notice how careful Mr. Fitzwilliam is with Elara? He’s not that kind of person!"
Esther gave him a sidelong glance, "Do you know men better or do I? There’s no such person in this world, if there is, it’s just because the temptation isn’t enough!"
Zara was exasperated, "I am a man, are you arguing with me about knowing men?"
Esther laughed with her hand covering her mouth, looking mischievous, "Your group isn’t typical men; strictly speaking the men you know could be rounded off to equal women."
Zara was somewhat persuaded, "That might actually be true..."
Zion took Elara home, and when they got out of the car, Elara was weak and half-leaning on his shoulder. Zion paused his breath, his heartbeat uncontrollably sped up, his Adam’s apple rolled a few times before he spoke restrainedly, "Can you stand up?"
