Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 187: Pregnant—With Twins!
Grandma Fitzwilliam pulled Elara to sit on the sofa, then moved a cooler box from the fridge and placed it in front of Elara like a treasure.
The cooler box opened, and inside were bottles of milky white liquid, just like Zion Fitzwilliam showed her earlier that morning.
Grandma Fitzwilliam proudly said, "I raised a few calves, and they just had their babies recently. I collected the colostrum for you. I heard that bovine colostrum is particularly good for the body and can boost immunity. These colostrum bottles were sent here through a cold chain, and all kinds of bacterial activities are very high. You should bring them home, boil one for yourself every day, and drink it. It will be good for your health."
Grandma Fitzwilliam didn’t say why she wanted to help Elara recover health-wise; it was because she heard from Zion that Elara, in her previous marriage, was pressured to have children, and after many attempts with IVF, her body almost collapsed.
She felt deeply pained, thinking how such a good girl could be treated so inhumanely.
That family really had no conscience.
Elara looked at the box full of colostrum, feeling touched. Grandma Fitzwilliam had always cared for her, even considering how to help her recover physically.
Seeing Zion enter the kitchen, Grandma Fitzwilliam finally pulled Elara aside to ask quietly, "Grandma made a real mess, it didn’t affect your relationship with Zion, did it?"
She had been so nervous these past few days, afraid she had messed up her grandson’s important affair and didn’t dare to ask him about the situation. Today, when Zion brought Elara back, she wanted to see how their relationship was going.
Seeing Elara and Zion return together eased her worries by half.
Now she had the courage to ask Elara.
Elara paused, then shook her head with a smile, "No, Grandma, don’t worry."
The other half of Grandma Fitzwilliam’s worries vanished.
Before they arrived, Grandma Fitzwilliam had already prepared dinner herself. Zion brought the food out, glanced at the two sitting together, and said, "Let’s eat first."
Elara helped Grandma Fitzwilliam pull out her chair, then sat down herself.
Grandma Fitzwilliam used communal chopsticks to pick up a piece of meat for her. Elara hurriedly took it, but the rich-smelling meat made her feel a little nauseous. Not wanting to hurt Grandma Fitzwilliam’s feelings, she forced herself to eat it despite the nausea.
After eating, she drank more than half a glass of water to barely suppress the discomfort.
Zion noticed her unwell appearance and asked concernedly, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Elara shook her head.
Just as Grandma Fitzwilliam served another piece of meat, her stomach churned again. This time she couldn’t hold it down. Excusing herself, she covered her mouth and rushed to the bathroom, where she vomited intensely.
Zion hurriedly followed, anxious and worried, "Elara, are you okay?"
Elara quickly waved him off, "I’m... fine, don’t come in."
Zion had to stop at the door, burning with worry but respecting her wishes, "Alright."
After vomiting, Elara felt a bit better; she flushed away the mess, and washed her face and mouth at the sink.
As soon as she left the bathroom, Zion handed her a glass of warm water, "Drink some water."
Elara’s voice was a bit hoarse; after vomiting, she felt a little weak but smiled weakly at him, "Thank you."
Grandma Fitzwilliam was full of guilt, "It must be the meat I bought that upset your stomach. I should’ve bought it myself; asking others to do it isn’t as reliable. It’s all my fault, truly my fault."
Elara quickly said, "Grandma, it’s me who wasn’t feeling well to begin with. It has nothing to do with you, don’t worry about it. Besides, I’m fine now, aren’t I!"
Zion had changed his clothes, and said to Elara, "Let’s go, I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up."
Grandma Fitzwilliam quickly chimed in, "Yes, yes, go get checked at the hospital. Stomach issues are not trivial; some might need a drip."
Elara was a bit taken aback, "Huh? This... is it really necessary? I feel fine now."
Zion said, "Getting checked will put Grandma at ease."
His voice was gentle but carried an unmistakable firmness. Elara knew he was fundamentally a determined man, coupled with not wanting to worry Grandma, she agreed.
"Okay."
Zion had already grabbed her coat and bag. Elara said goodbye to Grandma Fitzwilliam and left with Zion.
In the car, she still felt a bit embarrassed, "Grandma made such a big meal. She probably spent all afternoon on it, and we didn’t even take a bite. It must’ve hurt her feelings."
Zion, however, said, "Nothing is more important than your health. If the food really had spoiled, even eating it would only harm your health."
Elara silently nodded. That’s indeed how it should be.
Zion turned to her with a meaningful gaze, tentatively asking, "Were you feeling unwell earlier today?"
Elara shook her head honestly, "I said that to prevent Grandma from blaming herself."
Zion nodded, saying nothing more, but his fingers bulged on the steering wheel, suggesting he was nervous.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital.
Zion had investments in this hospital. He took Elara directly to the gastroenterology department. After a blood test, they had to wait a while for the results, so they sat waiting in the lounge. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Before long, a doctor entered with the test results.
"No gastrointestinal inflammation, nor any detected intestinal virus, but several indicators are elevated. Generally, elevated indicators suggest a possible pregnancy. I haven’t prescribed any medication, but you might want to visit the gynecology department for a check-up."
After speaking, the doctor looked puzzled at the two who showed no reaction.
Elara and Zion were not unresponsive; they were shocked.
The words ’possible pregnancy’ were like thunder in a clear sky, exploding in their minds.
Zion admitted that on the way here, he had his suspicions, but the thought was so fleeting he dismissed it.
Is it actually possible?
Eventually, Zion was the first to recover, took Elara’s hand, and grabbed the results from the doctor, thanking him and then leaving.
Elara was in a daze, her mind blank.
Wasn’t she unable to conceive? Could just one time with Zion and... she became pregnant?
Is this really possible?
Maybe the doctor was wrong? Since he’s a gastroenterologist, he might not understand gynecology. Besides, didn’t the doctor also say that the elevated indicators only suggest a possibility, not a certainty?
Maybe there’s something else wrong in her body causing a false pregnancy.
She wandered aimlessly, unaware that the person holding her hand was drifting more than she was.
In his lifetime, Zion had never obediently registered or queued in a hospital. Today was the first. Reaching the obstetrics and gynecology department, he realized how crowded it was: pregnant women with large bellies and their attentive husbands, all very busy and packed.
After registering, he found a quiet corner, carefully let Elara sit down, already treating her like a fragile porcelain doll.
Elara, with a wry smile, tried to pour cold water on his enthusiasm, "Don’t get excited yet. I’ve had tests before, and it’s indeed hard for me to conceive. The doctor did say that barring accidents, I wouldn’t be able to have children. This might be a false pregnancy. We’ll know once the results are out."
Zion nodded in agreement, "It could be false."
But his every move was cautious, already earnestly wanting to take care of her.
Elara sighed and stopped speaking; after all, once the test results came out, he would calm down.
After waiting for over half an hour, it was finally their turn. The doctor glanced at Elara and asked, "Are you pregnant?"
Elara hurriedly replied, "No, no, I’m not. I’ve been feeling unwell in my stomach today and vomited. The gastroenterologist said there were a few indicators that were high, suggesting a possibility of pregnancy, and advised me to get checked here."
She handed over the previous test results.
The doctor glanced at them, then asked, "When was your last menstrual period?"
Elara was taken aback.
After thinking for a moment, she uncertainly said, "I think it was about three weeks ago..."
A steady voice from the side interrupted, "Last month on the second, it should be 34 days now."
Elara looked at Zion in astonishment.
How did he know the date of her menstrual cycle?
This was too outrageous...
The doctor gave him an approving look and after recording it, issued a test order, "Go get a blood test first."
Zion led Elara out of the examination room.
There was also a long queue at the blood test area, and Zion stayed with Elara the whole time. He was tall, handsome, and had a good demeanor, attracting occasional glances from others.
Zion was in an unusually good mood today, ignoring the odd looks and patiently made sure Elara was comfortable before going to queue himself.
After waiting for over half an hour, it was finally Elara’s turn. During the blood draw, Zion, worried she might be scared, gently covered her eyes with his hand.
Elara’s heart trembled, and for an instant, she could only hear her heart pounding wildly.
She wasn’t actually afraid of getting her blood drawn; as a child, maybe she was, but she had grown stronger as she matured, handling many things capably.
Yet his unconscious gesture still moved her deeply inside.
After the blood draw, both of them sat in silence waiting on a chair.
Zion checked the report machine approximately every ten minutes to see if the results were ready.
Finally, after two long hours, he got the results.
He couldn’t understand the professional data, but the final diagnosis indicated early pregnancy.
This meant that Elara was indeed pregnant, carrying their child!
A burst of ecstasy welled up from deep within him. Zion felt as if this report was his lifeline, the timely arrival of the child just when he was about to be abandoned by Elara.
What a considerate and precious child.
Elara sensed something was off when she saw Zion grinning like a fool, quickly snatching the report from his hands.
Then she stared at the words ’early pregnancy’, falling into a prolonged silence.
Zion noticed her uneasy expression and promptly said, "We must keep this child."
Afraid she might still be unconvinced, he specifically mentioned her health, "You’ve previously been diagnosed with infertility, and now you’re pregnant. This child is a gift from heaven, lose this child, and you might never have your own children again in your life."
Elara clutched the report, feeling baffled and incredulous.
"How... how is this possible?"
She had always been diagnosed with infertility; during her two years of marriage to Mason, she suffered immensely just trying to conceive. How could she get pregnant with Zion after just one time?
They returned to find the doctor with the examination report, and upon reviewing it, the doctor’s first question was, "Are you going to keep this child?"
While Elara was still dumbfounded, Zion quickly responded, "Yes!"
The doctor gave him a look of appreciation and issued another note, "Go for an ultrasound to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and also check the condition of the embryo."
For the first time, Zion realized how complicated the normal process of seeing a doctor in a hospital could be.
Yet he tirelessly ran back and forth; during the ultrasound, he stared intently at the screen but couldn’t see the baby, asking, "Where’s the baby?"
The doctor’s question made everyone laugh, "It’s only a few weeks old, just a fertilized egg about the size of a date pit. Look, here it is."
Zion looked at it for a long time but couldn’t make out the ’thing’ the doctor was indicating in that chaotic mass of light and shadow.
Elara thought he looked so silly, completely unlike his usual gentle and steady self, and even his words seemed much more childish.
The doctor chuckled, "Both embryos are very healthy. Congratulations, it’s your first time being parents, right? Usually, the first pregnancy is more novel, but by the second, it doesn’t matter as much."
Zion instinctively retorted, "No matter how many times, each one must be taken seriously..."
But he was taken aback mid-sentence.
The doctor seemed to have mentioned...
"Two embryos?"
Elara and Zion incredulously asked simultaneously.
The doctor put away the device and took some paper to help Elara wipe her belly, "Yes, you’re having twins. Later on, it might be more tiring for the mother, and the father needs to be extra considerate."
Elara felt weak at the knees as Zion supported her while walking out.
Back in the consultation room, the doctor glanced at the ultrasound report, offered a few more congratulations, and advised on some precautions and the date for the next prenatal checkup, thus concluding the appointment.
Elara followed Zion out of the hospital in a daze.
She stopped in her tracks, and with some difficulty, said, "Zion, I need to think about this child..."
Zion suppressed his inner apprehension and nodded, "Okay, the decision on childbirth... is yours."
He pursed his lips, unable to hold back from adding, "Of course, I hope you can have the child. For that, I am willing to make any sacrifice."
Elara remained silent for a while, then asked, "If I have the children, and we end up getting divorced, won’t I be unable to take either of them with me?"
She understood the importance placed on bloodlines in high society. Zion is the heir of the Fitzwilliam Family, and his bloodline wouldn’t be allowed to wander away.
Faced with her question, Zion uncharacteristically paused for a long time.
After a while, he finally answered, "Yes, if we divorce, the Fitzwilliam Family would not allow you to take the children, but—I will bear the pressure for you because this life comes from your body and rightfully belongs to you."
A trace of emotion swept through Elara’s heart, "Then... I will give you an answer tomorrow."
She turned to leave, but Zion was too afraid to let her go alone and quickly held her back, "Where are you going? I’ll take you."
In his mind, Elara was now akin to carrying a bomb, needing to be handled with care, like a porcelain doll, leaving no room for any accidents—after all, she was carrying two bombs.
