Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 203: Rosalind’s Boyfriend Is Connor
Sometimes, an ill-fated relationship truly defies description. Elara Hale thought she’d simply run into Rosalind Jacobs while waiting for her flight, but it turned out Rosalind Jacobs was on the same flight as her.
During boarding, Rosalind Jacobs and her boyfriend stood right behind Elara Hale.
With Zion Fitzwilliam present, Rosalind Jacobs didn’t dare say much. It was only when they got on the plane that Elara discovered Rosalind and her man were seated right in front of her and Zion.
Running into Rosalind Jacobs drained Elara of any excitement she had about flying first class for the first time.
She listened as Rosalind ordered the man around to fetch this and that, keeping him busy, until he, unfamiliar with first class protocol, adjusted Rosalind’s seat incorrectly when trying to recline it. Rosalind berated him rudely.
"Connor, are you deliberately trying to disgust me? Do you think I can sleep well in this reclining position?!"
The man quickly apologized cautiously, "I’m sorry, darling, please don’t be upset."
Relentless, Rosalind snapped at him a few more times before finally letting it go.
Meanwhile, Elara sat straight unconsciously.
Zion promptly noticed her unsettled demeanor and asked, "What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?"
Elara hurriedly smiled and said absently, "It’s nothing, just suddenly remembered something, it’s fine."
She said that, but kept her eyes locked on the man in front.
Zion traced her gaze, furrowing his brow as he leaned in to quietly ask, "Something amiss?"
He glanced in Connor’s direction.
Elara swallowed her saliva and shook her head, "Let’s talk about it after we land."
Earlier, she heard Rosalind call her boyfriend Connor, and if she wasn’t mistaken, wasn’t Jean Dunn’s boyfriend also named... Connor?
With Wi-Fi available on the plane, she hesitated briefly before texting Vera Ford, "Do you have a photo of Jean Dunn’s boyfriend?"
Vera responded quickly, "I’ll check."
After a while, she replied again, "No, Jean Dunn seems never to have brought him around."
Elara pursed her lips and eventually sent Vera another message, "Can you try to get a photo of her boyfriend from Jean Dunn?"
Being on the plane with Connor nearby made Elara nervous about Jean possibly calling and the man discovering it.
Vera sent a question mark in reply, "Why? Why the sudden interest in her boyfriend?"
Elara put her phone on silent, snapped a photo of the backs of the two people in front, and sent it to Vera, along with the photo she previously took of Rosalind and her boyfriend strolling last time for Esther Carter.
"This guy is also named Connor."
Vera instantly understood the situation, "Leave it to me."
About half an hour later, Vera sent back a photo, "I was worried Jean might suspect something, so I told her we planned a gathering with spouses included to avoid mistaking people, prompting her to send me this photo sooner."
"Don’t forget the dinner plan later, if Monday night doesn’t work, let’s schedule a dinner next week; we need to cover this up in front of Jean Dunn."
Elara replied "Okay", then opened the photo.
She froze because the man in the picture hugging Jean Dunn and smiling brightly was exactly the same as the timid man beside Rosalind Jacobs!
Connor... was cheating?
Does Jean Dunn know about this?
She’s pregnant, and their wedding is planned for the end of the year!
For a moment, Elara didn’t know what to say.
Just then, another message came from Vera, "When I called Jean to ask for the photo, she was reluctant at first; it turns out Connor doesn’t like her taking his picture and prefers not to meet people, apart from Jean’s parents, no friends or colleagues have ever seen Connor."
Elara sucked in a breath.
Vera typed for a while before sending over, "You think Connor’s setting her up?"
Elara pursed her lips, "Didn’t we plan a Monday gathering with Jean? We’ll observe closely when we meet then."
Vera sent an ’ok’ hand gesture in reply.
Elara put her phone away and looked back at the two ahead with an entirely different feeling.
Initially, she paid them no mind, treating them as mere strangers, but now knowing the man with Rosalind was Jean Dunn’s boyfriend..., she couldn’t bring herself to look at them.
In Jean’s descriptions, her boyfriend was a particularly proud person, despite his humble origins. He studied diligently to move to Northgarde, being smart, capable, and responsible.
Yet the man in front, cowering before Rosalind like a sycophant, showed no trace of the proud man Jean described!
Elara hesitated but eventually opened her phone’s camera, zoomed in, and recorded a video.
She saved the video carefully, figuring it might come in handy someday.
Though Zion watched her peculiar activities, vaguely guessing the situation, he didn’t meddle and simply watched her enjoying herself.
After they landed and got into the car meant to pick them up, Zion asked, "Do you know that guy?"
Elara nodded, then shook her head.
She briefly explained Jean Dunn’s situation to him.
Zion hit the nail on the head, "He aims for inadvertent inheritance, same deal as that Andrew Chambers."
Elara was stunned, "Huh? How do you know..."
Andrew was her former boss who once pursued her, only to later get involved ambiguously with another girl from the office, leading the girl to suicide, and Andrew to be fired.
She later realized Andrew’s poor background had him seeking a Northgarde local single daughter to eliminate years of struggle.
But all that was from when she first started working; back then, she was unfamiliar with Zion Fitzwilliam, so how would he know?
Zion Fitzwilliam just smiled without speaking.
Elara Hale vaguely understood something, "You’ve been paying attention to me?"
Zion Fitzwilliam looked at her, "Didn’t I tell you earlier? I’ve loved you for many years."
Elara Hale didn’t know what to say, she silently turned her head away.
The car was arranged by Zion Fitzwilliam’s father, Damian Fitzwilliam. Elara Hale didn’t know where they were headed, until the car stopped at the entrance of an estate, and she saw Lucy Taylor rushing out while holding a dog, acting like a servant to support her arm.
Elara Hale was startled, wondering what she had done to deserve such a beautiful woman helping her.
Lucy Taylor said unhappily, "I told you, you’re pregnant, how can you not be careful at all? Getting off such a high car just like that, Zion is the same, doesn’t know how to protect you a bit?"
Elara Hale was embarrassed, feeling that calling her aunt or mom was inappropriate, so she just said, "I’m fine."
Lucy Taylor disapprovingly looked at her, "I’m telling you, you can’t be careless about being pregnant, even if you don’t care about the child in your belly, you should think about yourself. What’s in your belly is like a ticking time bomb, can’t be bumped or touched, must be careful in the future."
Elara Hale could only nod, "Okay, I’ll be careful from now on..."
Zion Fitzwilliam got down from the other side and walked to Elara Hale’s side, naturally wrapping his arm around her waist, helplessly saying, "Mom, Elara is not a child, don’t nag her."
Lucy Taylor was about to angrily confront him, but when she turned and saw Damian Fitzwilliam coming, she pouted and started crying, pointing at Zion Fitzwilliam, "Honey, look at your son, he’s bullying me!"
This made Damian Fitzwilliam’s heart ache, he hurriedly wiped away her nonexistent tears, "Alright, alright, I’ll scold him, we won’t cry, don’t cry."
Lucy Taylor whimpered a couple of times in grievance, probably finding it pointless too, she pulled Elara Hale into the estate while saying, "Things have come to this, I can’t separate you and Zion anymore. Regardless, you’re pregnant with his child, so you’re his child’s mother, we won’t deny this. Later you two should complete the wedding, the wedding dress must be worn before the belly becomes big, to look good."
Elara Hale opened her mouth but said nothing.
Previously she hoped Lucy Taylor would recognize her, now that Lucy Taylor does recognize her, she hesitated.
If Lucy Taylor found out, she’d probably scold her, right?
Lucy Taylor explained to her, "Actually, at first, I didn’t want you to marry Zion, not for any other reason, mainly because I felt your background was too low to bring him any advantage."
Elara Hale quickly said, "I understand."
Lucy Taylor glanced at her, "What do you understand? My worries were justified because I’ve been down this path. You know the old man originally was training Damian as the successor, right? Damian, whether in ability or vision, is far above his two brothers and was the best candidate for the successor."
At this point, she suddenly got a bit prideful, boastfully saying, "My husband is amazing, really amazing."
Elara Hale couldn’t resist showing a smile. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Lucy Taylor pouted, sighed, and said, "Unfortunately, he insisted on being with me, rejecting the woman the old man arranged for him. The old man looked down on me, straightforwardly saying that if Damian insisted on being with me, he must give up the successor position, and Damian agreed."
She was somewhat sad, "He originally had a bright future, but for me, a wild girl, he gave up everything. At that time, I was really afraid he’d regret it later and worried that we’d become tired of each other if we lived together, but he turned out to be really good, never changed over the years."
By the end, she became happy again, gesticulating happily, proudly saying, "The man I chose is excellent, my eye for picking men is top-notch!"
Elara Hale didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, thinking Lucy Taylor must have been well-protected by Damian Fitzwilliam over the years to maintain such a naive and lively appearance.
Lucy Taylor said, "Don’t blame me, I just don’t want you and Zion to turn into me and Damian. Zion is my son, I know how outstanding he is, I don’t want you to hold him back."
Elara Hale nodded, she never minded, she was aware of it all along, and she worried about the same as Lucy Taylor.
Lucy Taylor smiled, "But thinking about it now, it doesn’t really matter. Anyway, you’re pregnant, and if necessary, we can train another successor. The key point is that the old man has passed away, so no one will interfere with you guys."
Elara Hale felt uneasy inside, maintained a smile, and nodded.
She couldn’t say much to Zion Fitzwilliam’s mother.
Lucy Taylor didn’t notice her discomfort, continued pulling her forward, introducing, "Look, that’s the large waterwheel Damian just built for me, the pool is newly dug too, isn’t it beautiful?"
Elara Hale saw the large waterwheel not far ahead, probably powered by electricity, continuously rotating, with water cascading down from it.
The pool was beautifully made, with irregular shapes, surrounded by stones, and beyond that, lush green grass.
Upon approaching, she noticed the pool bottom was waterproofed, with many beautiful small fish swimming around and lots of pretty water plants.
Lucy Taylor proudly boasted, "Beautiful, right? I saw a video about this kind of waterwheel recently, got curious about how it works, and Damian personally made one for me. Look, I can even pedal a bicycle on it."
Elara Hale followed her gaze and indeed saw bicycle pedaling equipment installed around the waterwheel.
Lucy Taylor said, "Since you’re pregnant, I won’t let you up there. It’s really fun. Come play after you give birth."
Elara Hale subconsciously glanced back.
Only to see Damian Fitzwilliam and Zion Fitzwilliam walking over from the front, both dressed in casual wear, looking very much like the elite.
Damian Fitzwilliam wasn’t fond of smiling, hard to imagine such a stern man would tenderly coax his wife when she pretends to cry or build such a large waterwheel just for her words.
In short, it seems mismatched, loving one’s wife is incongruous with Damian Fitzwilliam’s temperament.
She saw Damian Fitzwilliam pass by a small fenced area, casually grabbing a food box hanging nearby to feed the chicks inside some millet.
The chicks crowded around to snatch the millet, and Damian Fitzwilliam gently said, "Alright, alright, don’t fight, everyone gets some."
Then he scattered two more handfuls of millet inside.
Raising his head, he saw Zion Fitzwilliam standing nearby, his smile instantly faded, and he continued to walk forward sternly.
Elara Hale watched this unfold, inexplicably feeling sorry for Zion Fitzwilliam.
The parents each love themselves, but not him.
Beside her, Lucy Taylor noticed Elara Hale’s gaze and cheerfully said, "Those are the chicks I raised. Damian said they could be eaten come the New Year. Then I’ll bring some over for you to nourish yourself. Doesn’t the TV say pregnant women should have chicken soup?"
Elara Hale gratefully declined, "Thank you, but I don’t like that stuff."
Lucy Taylor wrinkled her nose, "You don’t like it, huh? Actually, I don’t like it either, it’s too greasy. But besides chicken soup, I don’t know how else to help you replenish your body."
She’s the mother-in-law, having seen many issues on the internet about the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships, instinctively wanting to maintain a relationship with this daughter-in-law.
After struggling for a while, Lucy Taylor happily said, "Then shall I just give you money instead!"
