Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 7: I’m Divorcing Your Dad!
Zion Fitzwilliam let go of him and took Elara Hale’s hand to leave.
Mason Jacobs rubbed his throbbing wrist, watching their backs, his jaw clenched so hard it drew blood.
He’d never been so humiliated in his life!
Cecilia Quincy held his hand with concern, somewhat displeased, saying, "Elara was really too much, how could she raise a hand against you?"
Mason Jacobs’s gaze was deep and he didn’t say a word.
In all of Northgarde, no one had dared to provoke the Jacobs Family.
Elara Hale, this time, you’ve brought this on yourself!
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Once out of the villa area, Elara Hale subtly freed her hand and spoke with a hint of guilt, "Actually, it wouldn’t hurt to apologize to them, it’s not a big deal, but now you’re involved, and the Jacobs Family won’t easily let us go."
Zion Fitzwilliam instinctively clenched his empty palm and smiled, "Don’t worry, I have a friend who’s a lawyer, he’s very capable and can win the lawsuit."
Elara Hale sighed softly, knowing the world of the rich isn’t that simple? The Jacobs Corporation has a whole team of legal experts, each skilled at lawsuits, no ordinary lawyer could be their match.
But now things had come to this, saying anything else was futile, besides, he had helped her after all.
Turning her head, Elara asked Zion, "Haven’t had lunch yet, right? Let me treat you, what would you like to eat?"
Zion Fitzwilliam said, "Anything will do, you still need to head back to work later."
Elara Hale nodded, and they went in, each ordered a plate of stir-fried rice noodles.
The shop was small, with only a few tables and simple decor. Zion Fitzwilliam’s dignified air seemed to light up the entire place.
He got up to pour a glass of water and pushed it in front of Elara Hale, "Drink some water."
Elara Hale thanked him. She hadn’t had water all morning, and after standing in the sun for two hours, her lips were dry and chapped. She raised the glass, sipping slowly.
There was a moment of silence between them, the atmosphere slightly awkward. Zion Fitzwilliam sat with chopsticks in hand, eating the stir-fried noodles with an elegance reminiscent of dining on French cuisine.
Elara Hale found her gaze unconsciously drawn to the watch on his wrist.
She remembered that Mason Jacobs had the exact same one, a limited edition luxury brand not easy to obtain. Mason had paid extra and pulled numerous strings to get it.
A price in the millions, clearly not something a small-time salesman could afford.
"Your watch..." she hesitated to ask.
"Borrowed from a friend, same for the suit," Zion Fitzwilliam replied naturally, "You know how our line of work is, sometimes we need certain items to fit in."
Hearing this, Elara’s doubts dissipated. Sales was different from other industries, entering a circle required a token of entry.
Zion Fitzwilliam finished eating, gently wiped his mouth with a napkin, placed his hands on the table, casually asking, "How did you and Mason Jacobs meet?"
Elara Hale paused, not answering.
Zion Fitzwilliam looked at her, "Don’t want to talk about it?"
"No." Elara shook her head, her eyes reflecting a painful relief, "Three years ago, my parents were in a car accident. My mom died on the spot, my dad injured his spine, resulting in paralysis. The driver fled, and during my darkest time, I met him; he helped me find out the driver’s whereabouts and got the best specialist for my dad, saving his legs." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Zion Fitzwilliam’s eyes darkened, "No wonder a marriage affected you so deeply, turns out he took advantage of your vulnerability."
Elara was taken aback, gave a bitter smile and lowered her head, "I’m not someone who can’t handle defeat, but..."
But Mason Jacobs meant more to her than just love. Meeting him two years ago was salvation, peace, a light in the dark.
Nothing is eternal. People come and go, but the most painful thing is when the person you let down your guard for deals you the hardest blow. It’s not fatal but leaves shadows and lessons, pain when touched.
Elara’s voice choked and she couldn’t continue.
Because she kept her head down, missing the fleeting complexity in the man’s eyes across from her.
Zion Fitzwilliam handed her a tissue, his voice low and seemingly meaningful, "Some people don’t see your worth, while others do. Don’t drain yourself for those who aren’t worth it."
Elara nodded emphatically, holding back her sobs, finishing her meal through tears.
Zion Fitzwilliam looked at her steadily, "Maybe something better is up ahead."
Elara broke into a smile, her lips curving. "Whether there is or isn’t doesn’t matter now, but thank you for your kind words."
After finishing the meal, just as Elara was about to bid Zion farewell, he said, "I need to catch a cab back to the office, we’re heading the same way, want a ride?"
Elara was momentarily taken aback but didn’t decline, "Then I’ll send over the fare later."
Zion didn’t respond.
Once at the company, after getting out of the car, Elara transferred thirty yuan to Zion via WeChat.
Two seconds later, it was returned.
"No need."
Perhaps worried she’d feel uneasy, Zion added another message, "Neighbors should help each other out."
Elara silently remembered this favor.
The afternoon was still filled with training. After work, as Elara was packing her things, she suddenly received a call from Yvette Sommers, her tone brisk, "Elara, come home, your dad and I have something to discuss with you!"
Elara knew that the divorce issue wouldn’t be something Yvette would let go easily, so she decided to go back and make things clear today.
She replied, "Alright, I’ll come over now."
Her father lived in an old company-assigned apartment. Downstairs, a group playing mahjong greeted Elara warmly, "Elara, visiting your dad?"
Elara replied with a smile, "Yes, just checking in."
She went upstairs, and the women exchanged knowing looks, expressions speaking volumes.
Once, Elara marrying into a wealthy family was like a phoenix rising from the chicken coop. Who wouldn’t envy the Hale Family for having such a daughter?
But today Yvette had returned, cursing loudly, announcing Elara’s ousting from the elite, leading to speculations about her misconduct. Otherwise, why would anyone abandon her?
She just didn’t seem the type to settle, no wonder she got kicked out.
The Hale Family’s reputation was thoroughly tarnished by this daughter.
They twisted their expressions, reveling in spreading rumors, deriving immense satisfaction.
Unaware of the gossip behind her back, Elara headed upstairs, back to her own home, and upon entering, saw Yvette packing two suitcases with a disgruntled look. "Just in time, I’m divorcing your father!"
David Hales sat in his wheelchair, looking dejected.
Elara hadn’t expected this commotion upon returning. She paused for a few seconds before softly asking, "Is this because of my divorce?"
