[Vol. 6] Chapter 165: The Key to Summoning the God

Amid the dire circumstances described in the logs, one entry revealed a glimmer of hope.

Destruction Calendar, Year 116, March 9

We’ve made a major breakthrough! Meredith and his team recently discovered, during a dissection of a Beast of Destruction, that these creatures are not truly independent entities. They are connected by some incomprehensible force and appear to be indirectly controlled by certain special individuals. This aligns perfectly with our earlier theories about their collective behavior!

This means that if we can identify and destroy the individual or entity controlling the [Beast of Destruction], we might be able to eliminate all the Beasts at once and liberate this world!

This is a turning point. Tomorrow, Meredith will present these findings at the Starlight Assembly for discussion. If necessary, we may even consider using the power of the [Tower of Babel]. Our strongest and final resource.

The discussions this time were more heated than ever. Many are deeply worried and pessimistic about our proposed course of action. They argue that if we can’t even handle the [Beast of Destruction], directly challenging the mysterious force behind them would be suicidal and could extinguish the last spark of Starlight completely.

…I know this is a risky gamble, but we no longer have a choice.

At most, we have three years before the resources stored in the [Tower of Babel] are completely depleted. When that happens, we’ll be forced to face the endless [Beast of Destruction] and venture into the outside world to search for supplies. But the results of such efforts have been proven time and time again. Only at the cost of countless lives.

In less than four years, our population has dropped from 300,000 to 250,000. Out of every ten resource teams sent out, not even one is likely to return.

How much longer can this dwindling flame of ours endure?

At this point, we have no other option but to risk everything. This is Starlight’s… no, this world’s, final chance.

Destruction Calendar, Year 116, June 28

After three months of painstaking preparation, the time has finally come.

Finding the force behind the [Beast of Destruction] is easier said than done. It’s an almost impossible task. Without succeeding in this first step, everything else would be meaningless.

Using the theory proposed by Meredith and his team, Starlight pooled all its resources to create a device called the [Key to Summoning the God].

This device employs the incomplete technology once developed by the [Harlent Empire]. A critical step in their [God-Making Project]. If not for Starlight bringing together the last surviving talents and rare resources from across the world, completing this device would have been impossible.

I firmly believe that within the confirmed theory of the multiverse, true gods exist in other, unknown worlds. If there is anything capable of controlling an endless horde of [Beast of Destruction], it could only be a true god.

This calamity is divine punishment, retribution from the gods for our arrogance in attempting to trespass into their domain.

But even so, we refuse to go quietly into the night.

Destruction Calendar, Year 116, July 1

The [Tower of Babel] has completed its charging sequence. This magnificent creation of the [Harlent Empire] can draw infinite power from the earth’s veins, transforming it into a pure, indomitable weapon.

We will use the [Key to Summoning the God] to bring forth a true god into this world and beg for forgiveness. But if forgiveness is no longer possible… this device will become our final trump card.

The fate of the entire world rests on this moment. No one knows what we will face in the end.

All we can do is hope that the flame of Starlight will not extinguish.

After this journal entry, many of the subsequent pages bore signs of violent tearing. Not an intentional act of destruction, but rather the writer’s chaotic emotions spilling over. It seemed as though they tore the pages in a desperate attempt to vent their confusion and anger.

Violet already knew how their story ended. What remained unclear was what exactly happened after.

Thankfully, despite tearing through numerous drafts, the writer ultimately left behind a relatively complete account:

…………………………………..

We… saw the “God.”

How laughable. The [Harlent Empire], Starlight… this entire world.

I remember how scholars once proudly declared, over and over, that gods were nothing more than higher forms of life, special beings with extraordinary power. They claimed that, with enough effort, humans could one day reach their level, challenge them, and even create gods of our own.

But that was nothing more than the delusion of a frog at the bottom of a well.

The power of the gods far exceeds anything we could have imagined. The [Beast of Destruction] we’ve been fighting? They are nothing but mere specks of dust, touched by the edges of Its shadow.

When It descended… even the world itself began to collapse. We, insignificant as we are, lacked both the ability and the right to communicate with It.

We gave everything we had, but the [Tower of Babel] crumbled under Its power. Our world’s final resistance was little more than a futile joke. Starlight has been destroyed, and we’ve followed the same path of arrogance and ruin as the [Harlent Empire].

Arrogance.

Mortal beings cannot oppose gods. No matter the method, the outcome is always the same.

The world is withering, and without the protection of the [Tower of Babel], it won’t be long before I die as well.

Though it’s only a faint chance, I’ve stored this journal, which records the final embers of Starlight, alongside the [Key to Summoning the God].

The multiverse theory is indeed correct. I can only hope that, in the distant future, someone will stumble upon this place and witness what remains of it.

To the foreigner from another world, if you can get past the countless [Beast of Destruction] to reach this place, take these with you. Take the last remnants of our world, [Ryznes], and carry the proof of our existence back to your homeland.

The [Key to Summoning the God], though damaged by Its power during the ritual and no longer capable of summoning again, remains the final crystallization of this world’s fallen brilliance. I am not Meredith, so I cannot describe its workings in detail, but if you can fully unravel its principles, it may prove invaluable to you as well.

One final warning. No matter how powerful you or your world believe yourselves to be, no matter the crises you face, or the ambitions you harbor. Never, ever invoke the name that should not be known.

It is the source of destruction, the end of worlds. A calamity incomparably greater than the [Beast of Destruction].

Remember, when you gaze upon It, It has already buried you.

…………………………………..

“……”

Violet closed the journal, her expression turning contemplative.

She had pieced most of it together.

This ruin appeared to be part of what was once the world named [Ryznes], likely its core region. While the journal didn’t detail every event, it revealed enough to make the picture clear.

The devastation that befell this world wasn’t simply caused by the god-beasts Seth created. These beasts, while murderous, couldn’t shake the very foundations of a world.

The true cause was the [Key to Summoning the God] and the unknown god it brought forth at the hands of the Starlight organization.

What struck Violet was the journal writer’s cryptic references to the god’s name, as if erased by some unfathomable force. It reminded her of the times she had used [Information Detection] to investigate certain beings, only to find their true names obscured by a similar power.

The nature of this god, and the reasons for its erasure, loomed as a deeper mystery, one that was far from resolved.
