Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Level?-Chapter 97[Vol. 6] - No Escape Once You’re Here!
[Vol. 6] Chapter 97: No Escape Once You’re Here!
“Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Blocked at the exit, the blue-clad [Yokai Controlling Sect] members didn’t hesitate to launch a ferocious barrage against the barrier formed by the [Light Protection]. In desperation, they even forced a few enslaved monsters to self-destruct, hoping the explosions could shatter the protective wall.
However, the barrier stood firm, immovable.
Feeling the feedback from her skill, Violet raised an eyebrow slightly.
“So that’s it, you’ve forced the energy in their cores into an unstable, berserk state. No wonder the damage output is so dramatically multiplied. Even if you didn’t force them to explode, these beasts wouldn’t have lasted much longer anyway… Turning living creatures into puppets and bombs? You people never fail to disgust me.”
A summoning circle glowed before her, and a colossal beast materialized in a flash.
“Little Fang, kill them… leave no one alive.”
“Roar!!!”
The golden giant hound leapt into the fray, spinning once and leaving a bloody whirlwind in its wake. Like a tiger in a flock of sheep, [Yazi], one of the nine dragon children, unleashed its terrifying might, fully living up to its reputation as a ferocious beast now that its master had removed all restraints.
No matter what attacks or strange spells the enemies hurled at it, Yazi paid no mind, relying on its innate resilience and exceptional defenses to shrug off every assault. Standing tall amidst the relentless barrage, it swept its claws and tail, leaving the bodies of the [Yokai Controlling Sect]’s enemies torn to pieces.
“What… what kind of monster is this?!”
“Help! Someone save me! Ahhh!!!”
“Where’s the [Apothecary]?! Where did the [Apothecary] go?!”
“Kill it! Kill that monster, or we’re all dead!!!”
“Wait, wait, don’t panic! Maybe we can…”
Amusingly enough, even in this dire situation, some greedy individuals dared to entertain delusions. They secretly attempted to use the [Yokai Controlling Sect]’s enslavement spells to steal Yazi’s contract and turn its power to their side.
This action, predictably, enraged the prideful and savage beast beyond measure.
[Human! How dare you insult the honor of me and my master!]
“ROAR!!!!!”
As the giant beast charged forward, the [Yokai Controlling Sect] members, accustomed to their despicable tricks, tried to control their enslaved beasts to use as shields. They hoped the beast, being a fellow creature of the wild, would hesitate. But Yazi paid no heed. Regardless of what stood in its way, as long as it identified them as enemies, it swiped its claws and tore them apart without hesitation.
The saying goes, ‘the strong fear the reckless, and the reckless fear the ruthless.’ Against a truly merciless beast, even these seasoned villains of the [Yokai Controlling Sect] began to lose their nerve. Their cruelty was no match for the unrelenting savagery of Yazi. They finally showed fear, screaming and scattering in a desperate attempt to flee.
But the mountain’s lone exit had already been sealed by Violet. The battlefield, which they had walked into of their own accord, had become a cage. A death trap where only the strong could survive.
“It’s useless! Our spells don’t work at all!”
“Stop running! Everyone, stop! If we don’t kill that monster, none of us will make it out alive!!!”
“Beast, I’ll fight you to the death!!”
“No! Stay back! I don’t want to die!!!!”
The tables had turned. The hunters had become the hunted. Pleas, cries, and angry shouts filled the air, but what use was that?
Even divine mercy is reserved for those worthy of redemption. What they now faced was the result of their own sins, what one might call *poetic justice.*
At some point, Bai’er and Murong Yun had retreated from the battle. Passing easily through the barrier that posed no hindrance to them, they regrouped with Violet. They watched the seemingly docile yet lethally efficient Yazi wreak havoc amidst the panicked enemies, their expressions conflicted.
It wasn’t that the two of them were exhausted or unable to deal with the surging waves of enemies. Instead, the overwhelming, one-sided slaughter made it clear that their presence might only hinder Yazi. Rather than getting in the beast’s way, it was wiser to conserve their energy for more pressing tasks.
“I finally understand why the Lord and the first Western Saint went to such lengths to prevent this thing from breaking free. With such power, if Yazi ever lost control, there probably wouldn’t be many in this world capable of stopping its rampage…”
“Indeed… that beast lives up to its name,” Murong Yun replied with a heavy sigh.
“Are you trying to compliment Little Fang?”
Hearing the black-haired girl’s nonchalant and playful tone, the Bai’er couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
“What do you think?”
“Hehe, I’ll take it as one! After all, it’s my pet. Being strong is the most basic requirement, isn’t it?”
Though she said this casually, Bai’er was only partially aware of the truth. Back when Yuan Qianqiu sealed Yazi, it wasn’t solely due to its ferocity and violence. The main reason lay in the destructive aura it emitted, a sinister energy born from the [Destruction] factor. This aura could naturally spawn countless malevolent entities.
If Violet hadn’t used a special method to conceal that power, even without Yazi actively attacking, prolonged exposure to its core energy would have caused the [Yokai Controlling Sect] members to mutate. They would have birthed grotesque and unnatural creatures from within themselves, becoming horrifying monsters in a state worse than death.
This was Yazi’s true terror.
“Ah… no, don’t come any closer! AAAHHH!!!”
*Slash!*
With a swift strike of its razor-sharp claws, the last terrified blue-robed man was cleaved in two, his scream abruptly cut off. Standing tall atop a mountain of corpses and rivers of blood, the golden beast shook its bloodstained claws and walked calmly back to the black-haired girl.
[Master, as you commanded, none remain. I gave the beasts as clean a death as possible.]
“Mm-hmm, great job. Thank you for your hard work.”
The creatures brought by the [Yokai Controlling Sect] to besiege the Peach Blossom Sage, except for the Mole King, were nothing more than puppets. Just like the [Black Mamba Venom] of the [Tidal Deep Valley] encountered before. They were beyond salvation, except by the use of resurrection magic.
Thus, rather than hesitating or showing pity, it was better to grant them a swift release.
After patting the now-shrunken “big golden fluff” on its lowered head, Violet issued no further commands. Instead, she dissolved the [Light Protection] barrier stained with blood and turned her gaze toward the distant stone pavilion.
There, one of the last two invaders, the Mole King of the Mole Gang, lay pinned helplessly under the single claw of the black flood dragon. Though it possessed power known as a [Seeker of Immortality], it was insignificant before the peak masters of the Cangyun Twelve Peaks. The true pinnacle of power in this world.

Meanwhile, high above in the clouds, the deafening clash of thunder and lightning had also quieted. A tall figure clad in golden armor, with the body of a human and the head of an eagle, descended slowly, wings beating rhythmically, to land by the Peach Blossom Sage at the spiritual spring’s stone pavilion.
Moments earlier, it had been that very figure in the sky unleashing bolts of thunder, decimating a large portion of the [Yokai Controlling Sect]’s forces, followed by an intense aerial duel with the enemy leader, one of the [Seven Heavenly Demon Lords], the [Apothecary].
“…Ran away, didn’t they?”
Violet turned her gaze to another part of the mountaintop beyond the clouds. A faint presence was retreating rapidly, disappearing without a trace.
As if noticing the same thing, Xiao Kong nodded.
“It seems they preemptively set a spatial anchor at a distant location. The moment the situation turned against them, they activated it to escape. This person likely carries a decent-quality spatial artifact. The choice to fight in the sky was probably a strategy to bypass Peach Blossom Peak’s spatial barrier.”
“[Apothecary]… Hmph. The [Seven Heavenly Demon Lords] aren’t that impressive in terms of power, but when it comes to running away, they’re second to none. Even a monkey should learn from experience by now, wouldn’t you think?”
Violet sneered dismissively before raising her hand. In her palm, radiant golden light coalesced into a dazzling spear. White-platinum arcs of electricity crackled at its tip, brimming with lethal potential like an arrow poised at full draw.
“[The Immortal Apothecary Saint]… let’s see if that title holds up. Are you really unkillable?”
*BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!*
Six pairs of pristine, divine wings unfurled majestically behind the black-haired girl. Glowing runes beneath her feet surged upward, flooding the spear with overwhelming energy. Its aura expanded like a roaring geyser.
The [Spear of Judgement], one of Violet’s most commonly used holy-light attacks, was typically a sixth-tier spell. But as the prototype of the holy spear wielded by her Light Incarnate itself, its power could be amplified. Under Violet’s deliberate enhancement, its force soared to rival an eighth- or even ninth-tier spell. A strike imbued with the terrifying might of divine wrath.
*Swoosh!*
Without making a throwing motion, Violet casually released her grip. The spear transformed into a streak of lightning, tearing through the sky with a thunderous sonic boom. It left a piercing trail that split the heavens and clouds, vanishing into the horizon.
“Violet…”
“Oh, it’s nothing. Just annoyed at what that guy pulled earlier. Don’t mind it. Let’s regroup with Ling Feng.”
Glancing briefly at Xiao Kong, who seemed momentarily stunned, the black-haired girl retracted her six wings.
With an indifferent shrug, she strode forward and swept away the scattered limbs and corpses across the ground. Bai’er and Murong Yun exchanged a helpless glance before following her as she headed toward the stone pavilion.
