Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 831 - 821: The Person is Gone
Chapter 831: Chapter 821: The Person is Gone
"Dad, Dad, what’s wrong with you?" Li Hongxing shouted anxiously.
Li Hongjun was closer and had already darted over at the moment the old Mr. Li collapsed, catching the falling figure.
Wang Dan also rushed over quickly, looking at the old Mr. Li with his eyes tightly closed, his face pale, and a slight tremor in his fingers as she felt under his nose for breathing, then she let out a gasp of alarm.
"Shut up, you worthless woman, it’s all your constant nagging. If anything happens to my dad, just wait and see how I’ll deal with you," Li Hongxing finally lost his cool, his eyes reddening as he cursed his wife.
Wang Dan didn’t dare to argue back. Old Mr. Li’s life and death were unknown; she had just checked his breath, which seemed to be there, but also not, and she had no idea what to do. If she really caused Old Mr. Li’s death with her pestering, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself; even the spit from others could drown her.
Li Hongjun put his strength into both hands, lifted up the old man, and placed him on the kang bed.
But none of them knew medical skills and couldn’t figure out what was really wrong with him.
"Big brother, we can’t just let him lie here. You need to hurry up and hitch up the donkey cart; we need to take Dad to the hospital," Li Hongjun said.
"Okay, I’m on it," Li Hongxing replied and ran towards his house immediately.
"Big sister-in-law, open the kang cabinet and take out a quilt. We’ll need to spread it on the donkey cart," Li Hongjun continued to instruct.
"Yes, yes, I’ll find it now," Wang Dan was also a bit flustered, mainly because she had never encountered such a sudden emergency.
As it was nearby, it only took a few minutes for Li Hongxing to come back in, "Hongjun, the cart is ready."
Without needing instruction, Wang Dan carried the quilt she had found and went outside to cover the cart before the old man was brought out.
Lastly, Li Hongjun carefully lifted Old Mr. Li from the kang again and walked outside.
"My, what’s all this about? What’s happened to the old master? It wasn’t you lot that beat him, was it?" Mrs. Zheng had heard noises from this house a while ago but knowing that the second son had come back, she dared not approach.
Still, with the door banging loudly, she couldn’t resist standing in the courtyard, wanting to see what exactly was going on.
Li Hongjun didn’t even acknowledge her, he really had no time to deal with her, as he carried Old Mr. Li out and gently placed him on the donkey cart.
"You don’t need to come with us, big sister-in-law; my big brother and I will take Dad to the hospital. If anything comes up, I’ll call the team from there," Li Hongjun said, then signaled to his big brother to hurry on their way.
Wang Dan was worried but said nothing; she went inside to get things ready, feeling that this time the old man seemed to be severely ill and might need to be hospitalized. She better start packing in advance.
Meanwhile, the Li brothers, riding the donkey cart, headed for the city. It was dark before they finally reached the city’s hospital, where the regular doctors had already left, and only the emergency department was available.
After a series of checks at the hospital, the conclusion was that Old Mr. Li had suffered a stroke.
"Don’t you know that elderly people at such an advanced age shouldn’t get too emotional? Even if there are major issues at home, it’s best to keep it from them. Their bodies can’t handle it." The doctor shook his head to indicate that there was nothing more to be done at the moment, as there were no better methods or drugs to treat the stroke.
After being tossed around in the hospital, Old Man Li had regained consciousness, but he had mild stroke symptoms, with the left side of his body numb, and he kept insisting on going home to see his wife, refusing to stay in the hospital.
"Dad, calm down a bit," Li Hongjun tried to keep his temper and speak gently. "The doctor said you’ve had a stroke. Even though it’s just a bit of numbness on one side now, if you don’t get treatment and pay attention, it could get worse. What would you do if you end up not being able to get out of bed? Besides, you’re not in a condition to see Mom right now. You should focus on getting better before anything else."
Actually, he really wanted to ask his father, now you remember to see Mom? Where were you these past few days? When you were fixing chairs for the Xue Family, why didn’t you think about where Mom was? Now that she’s about to pass away, you start crying and making a fuss wanting to see her. Are you even sincere?
Wuuu, I’m sorry to your mother, I really am," Old Man Li cried like a child, his face covered with snot and tears.
Li Hongxing cried along with his father.
"Hurry up and stop your tears. I’ve already said that the old man shouldn’t get too worked up right now. If he gets stimulated again and has another stroke, it won’t be a joke," the doctor scolded impatiently, seeing the whole family weeping.
"Yes, okay, doctor. We’ll be careful," Li Hongjun pulled his older brother up to stop him from crying. The two managed to control Old Man Li’s emotions after half an hour, and he finally fell asleep.
The two brothers discussed and decided that one would watch over him while the other would find a hostel outside to rest; they’d switch in the middle of the night. They planned to call home the next morning to have their sister-in-law bring some daily necessities.
The doctor had just said that Old Man Li’s condition wasn’t stable and that he needed to be hospitalized for observation for a few days.
Li Hongjun took the first-half of the night. At one in the morning, Li Hongxing came to take over his shift.
Li Hongjun woke up at five in the morning, ready to go out to see where he could buy breakfast for his older brother and father. But just as he finished getting dressed, someone knocked on the door so fiercely it seemed like it would shake apart.
"Hongjun, Hongjun, you’re in there, right? Something’s happened to our parents; you need to get up quickly," Li Hongxing’s voice came from outside, tinged with sobs.
Li Hongjun quickly opened the door and asked, "Big brother, what happened?"
The two rushed back to the hospital, where Old Man Li had already been pushed into the operating room. Waiting outside, besides Wang Dan, was the same Officer Zhang they had met in the afternoon.
It turned out that Qiu Shuping had an incident in the detention center, discovered by her cellmate when they went to use the restroom at night. By the time the guards checked on her, Qiu Shuping was already breathless.
The detention center had a doctor who, after an examination, found no external injuries or signs of being beaten on the prisoner’s body. Therefore, the conclusion was that the homicide was ruled out; the inmate had died suddenly, which is to say, she was literally scared to death.
With such a serious incident in the detention center, Officer Zhang was of course notified immediately. He also felt it was necessary to inform the family, so even in the middle of the night, he drove the police car to Taoshu Village.
Unable to find anyone at the old residence, he informed Wang Dan.
Upon hearing that the old lady had been scared to death in detention, Wang Dan was also terrified. As a daughter-in-law, she couldn’t make decisions by herself and didn’t know what to do, so she had no choice but to ask Officer Zhang for help. He drove her from the village to the city hospital to inform the Li Family members.
After Wang Dan relayed the news to Li Hongxing, the husband and wife duo wept outside the ward, truly at a loss for what to do.
The commotion eventually disturbed Old Man Li inside the ward. After incessantly questioning them, Li Hongxing couldn’t hold back and told him about the old lady’s death from shock. The news made Old Man Li collapse once again, and that’s how he was taken straight into the operating room.
