Chapter 547: Surprise Attack on the Celestial Wind Sect

The Celestial Wind Sect fully controlled three of the thirteen qi planets around the ancient battlefield, and they were all linked to the same sun, or yang star, as the endless space called it. This made the sect's foundation as solid as bedrock.

Meanwhile, the Fengli Sect reigned over two qi planets that also belonged to the same sun. This foundation allowed them to compete with the Celestial Wind Sect.

The remaining eight planets were far more chaotic than those five. Just like on Fengmo, different forces mingled and competed openly on them. Among the many sects scattered across them, no fewer than forty well-known factions managed to maintain a stable foothold.

The closer a planet was to the ancient battlefield, the more traveling cultivators it attracted and the higher its growth potential.

Jinhua, the planet farthest from the ancient battlefield, was slightly larger than Fengmo and had stronger gravity. That difference was insignificant to cultivators, but it did affect the mortals born on other planets.

Jinhua was so far from the ancient battlefield that only traveling cultivators rarely visited it. However, it did have a large amount of primal qi. Many stayed on it since it was ideal for long cultivation periods.

What made it truly special was that one of the three primal qi passages near the ancient battlefield was on the planet. It was a mandatory route for many unaffiliated practitioners seeking to make a living.

For that reason, the Celestial Wind Sect and the Fengli Sect had established some influence on Jinhua, each with its own cities and markets near the passage. Currently, more than a dozen celestial sects had a territory on the planet, but they didn't normally interfere with one another.

Wang Sheng, who had just slipped away from the Xinghai Sect, chose Jinhua as his first stop precisely because of its primal qi passage. The "nameless sword immortal" reappearing on it after nearly a century would make others assume that he had simply returned from some other region. Moreover, he wanted to see how it differed from a wormhole.

Riding the Shadowless Shuttle, Wang Sheng landed in an empty forest on Jinhua. He found a mountain stream to wash himself, enveloped himself in an array, and then disguised himself.

He first took out a white wooden board and carved a skull mask from it. Afterward, he gathered some soil and used immortal power to spread it across his face, giving him a crude mud disguise. His skin looked darker, and his features appeared more vicious.

He then wore the items that Huai Jing had given him, making his aura indistinct. With multiple layers of protection in place, he felt a little more at ease.

Next, he removed his Daoist robe, changed into a short tunic. He put the immortal armor over it and slung the Kang Star Deity's broad greatsword across his back.

He didn't stand out much now. Many unaffiliated cultivators dressed in a similar fashion. Still, he deliberately messed up his hair to look rougher and more unkempt.

Wang Sheng still hadn't used the mass of Chaos Dawnlight within him, which could enhance the quality of treasures and grant immortal artifacts special properties.

He planned to wait until Yaoyun returned before deciding how to use it. After all, good things should be shared with his own sword spirit first. Once she had taken her share, he would use the rest to strengthen the greatsword and Flying Haze. As the "head of the household," Spiritless deserved the utmost respect.

He had no intention of using the sword that the Xinghai Sect had provided as his primary weapon.

With all preparations complete, Wang Sheng spread out his immortal perception. Before long, he discovered two cultivators in a wooden hut a hundred miles away. They were sharing a happy moment. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

The immortal perception of a True Immortal was powerful. It pierced straight through the array that they had set up, evidencing that they had low cultivation.

Moreover, their techniques were rather traditional and lacked originality—ahem. It was best not to disturb the couple. In such a chaotic world, being devoted to one's other half was beneficial.

Wang Sheng leaped into the air and unleashed Soaring Red Feathers. Now truly moving as fast as lightning, he instantly vanished into the distance like a ghost.

This escape technique had helped his ancestors flee many dangerous situations. Now that Wang Sheng had reached the True Immortal Realm, it finally began to reveal its true power. It undoubtedly greatly increased his chances of survival.

Soon, Wang Sheng stopped an unaffiliated Ascended Immortal, who happened to be passing by, and placed several Immortal Stones into his hands. "Daoist Friend, I wish to ask a few things."

Though Wang Sheng had a white bone mask on, the man didn't see him as too aggressive. He pushed the stones back and forced a smile. "Daoist Friend, feel free to ask."

"Can you point me to the Fengli Sect's city?"

"That would be the large city west of the primal qi passage. It's about six thousand miles in that direction."

"What about the base of the Celestial Wind Sect?"

"East of the primal qi passage, directly opposite the Fengli Sect's city. Each city has banners at its gates, and each sect has a different defensive array. You'll recognize them as soon as you arrive."

Wang Sheng looked as though he had come to a realization. He deliberately muttered to himself, "I must have flown too fast and failed to check."

He thanked the Ascended Immortal and shot toward the horizon in a blazing fireball. Reaching an extreme speed, he disappeared.

Not thinking much of the encounter, the unaffiliated cultivator breathed a sigh of relief. He just felt lucky that he had not encountered anyone dangerous and continued on his way.

At last, Wang Sheng saw the true form of the primal qi passage. It was located outside Jinhua's atmosphere, moving with the planet like a satellite.

From the ground, it looked as if a massive hole, hundreds of miles wide, had opened in the blue sky. Faint primal qi flowed out from within it and also streamed inward from the outside.

Wang Sheng deliberately flew beyond the atmosphere, finding a clear membrane covering the outermost layer of the passage. Looking like the surface of water, it prevented immortal perception from going through it.

After waiting for a while, faint ripples appeared on the membrane. A female cultivator dressed in green robes slowly squeezed out from the center. She glanced down at the planet below and descended toward a certain location.

Wang Sheng turned his attention back to the primal qi passage.

It certainly wasn't a wormhole or any celestial body Wang Sheng recognized. Moreover, even a hole with a diameter of several hundred miles was actually tiny on the scale of the universe.

According to a book in the Xinghai Sect's library that Wang Sheng had once read, primal qi passages had existed since the Ancient Era. Their numbers grew during that era, connecting the primal qi of many planets.

Since they allowed primal qi to flow to a realm that cultivators could not directly reach, the passages became a convenient way for people to traverse space.

After watching the passage for a while, Wang Sheng decided not to enter. Focusing on his real goal, he turned around and landed at the western gate of the Fengli Sect. He paid one Immortal Stone, received a wooden pass, and entered the busy city.

Wang Sheng followed the simple map on the back of the pass, quickly finding the large Laifeng Pavilion. As he stepped forward, two female immortals in long gowns greeted him.

These Fengli Sect disciples were only responsible for welcoming guests, and cultivators who came here generally knew that they were not to be bullied. Most treated them with proper respect.

Training the heart this way was actually quite effective.

"Please come in, Daoist Master."

In a slightly hoarse tone, Wang Sheng replied, "No thanks. Is Lan Huilin here?"

The two young disciples froze. They clearly didn't know who Lan Huilin was.

A woman behind them laughed. "You've got to be joking. Senior Sister Caiwei is the sect master's personal disciple. Why would she be in a place like this?"

"She's an old friend of mine." Wang Sheng took out a letter from his robes and handed it to one of them. "Please give this letter to her. Thank you."

"I see. Please don't worry. We'll make sure it reaches her."

He nodded and walked straight to the east. Several female cultivators watched him go with confused looks.

After a short while, he passed through the eastern gate, stepped onto a cloud, and headed toward the city of the Celestial Wind Sect. He considered calling down a tribulation cloud, but realized that the people in the city were innocent and did not have to be dragged into this. Moreover, he was worried that his lightning wouldn't be strong enough to break the city's shield.

Hence, he blended into the crowd instead and looked for the Celestial Wind Sect's local base.

It wasn't hard to find. After all, it was a large compound right at the center of the city, and it had a sign that read "Celestial Wind Sect."

As he closed in on the gate, a squad of soldiers blocked his path.

"This is a restricted area. Turn back."

Wang Sheng replied calmly, "Oh?"

He slowly raised his head and then stepped forward. Gripping the greatsword on his back, he drew it and swung it vertically. Not only was his attack far too fast, but it was also imbued with a powerful and dominant Dao Rhythm.

The sword radiance flashed briefly, yet by the time it was gone, Wang Sheng's greatsword was already planted in the ground before him.

Stunned by the sword's rhythm, the six soldiers blanked out. The two directly in front of Wang Sheng were covered in cold sweat, their faces twitching uncontrollably.

Just a moment ago, the sword had passed right by their bodies. The feeling of being so close to death was already damaging their Dao Hearts.

The sign soon cracked at the center, then broke completely.

One of the soldiers looked over his shoulder. As though the entire gate could not bear the weight of Wang Sheng's gaze, the entrance and the walls crashed inward loudly. The two halves of the sign were buried under the rubble.

Wang Sheng flatly ordered, "Scram."

He unleashed True Immortal pressure. Countless stars seemingly shone behind him, and a purple star that ruled over all others slowly rose into view.

The pressure intensified, making the six soldiers run away in panic. They didn't even think about fighting back.

Inside the compound, several True Immortal auras erupted, one of which belonged to a late-stage True Immortal stationed here.

One of them furiously shouted, "Who's causing trouble out there?!"

Eight people rushed out from different parts of the compound. More than a hundred soldiers also immediately assembled.

Instead of answering, Wang Sheng kicked the tip of the greatsword upward, leaped from the rubble, and gripped the sword with both hands. His immortal armor glowed brightly.

His sword cried nonstop, as though it knew that he wanted revenge for the desecrated body of its original master. To his surprise, its power surged immensely.

The Star Deity's skeleton seemed to appear before him, and its power seemingly echoed in his heart.

He unleashed the Thirty-Six Dragon-Slaying Strikes and the Ziwei Heavenly Sword Art. Several fierce sword energies tore through the area, hitting two True Immortals who had recklessly charged in. They spat out blood as they were sent flying backward.

Immediately after, he unleashed profound techniques through the greatsword. Though they were in broad daylight, stars suddenly filled the sky.

Astral power gathered around the sword in Wang Sheng's hands. Sword radiance and phantasms then transformed into shining starlight, swallowing the enemies ahead.

No one in the greatsword's way managed to stand against it.

The groups of soldiers had no time to run. Caught in the starlight, they were cut down in the blink of an eye.

Rivers of blood flowed all over the Celestial Wind Sect's base.

Treasures in several streaks of light hit the starlight. They were imbued with the full force of True Immortals, yet they simply bounced off Wang Sheng's armor. He didn't even slow down in the slightest.

Enraged, the strongest of the True Immortals joined forces. They charged into the sword radiance and unleashed their own immortal arts. Every technique was delivered at full power, every spell cast with the intent to kill.

However, not one managed to withstand the greatsword or break through the light of Wang Sheng's armor.

Moments later, the tens of thousands of cultivators in the city watched and listened as a river of starlight surged into the sky from the center of the city.
