World's No. 1 Swordsman-Chapter 564: Celestial Wind Sects War Slaves!
Clearly enraged by Wang Sheng, the wolf fiend fully unleashed his Heavenly Immortal Realm aura. Even with the Dragon Sword strengthening him, Wang Sheng was still an entire major realm below Tan Lang.
This was nothing like the gap between the Golden Core Realm and the Illusory Core Realm. Once one had reached the True Immortal Realm, each minor realm became a towering mountain, and each major realm became a heaven apart!
Even if Yaoyun were here to merge with him, he still would've had less than a ten percent chance of winning against the wolf fiend. But with Heavenly Tribulation Sword Intent and Dual Polarity Sword Intent, he could at least provoke and stall him for a while.
What came next depended on how quickly Lishang could deal with the war slaves.
Lishang transmitted, "Elder Pi! I'll lure away the wolf fiend shortly. Do your best to escape. The Celestial Wind Sect's war slaves are strong, but their auras are only at the late-stage True Immortal Realm. With your swordsmanship, you should be able to escape."
Wang Sheng was about to reply when the wolf fiend growled lowly, turned into a mass of green light, and vanished. In the next instant, he appeared right in front of Wang Sheng and then swung his claws at the sword cultivator's throat.
The Heavenly Immortal was far too fast for Wang Sheng's immortal perception to track him. Moreover, he clearly specialized in close combat. He was vicious and direct, and he had obviously killed countless cultivators with his claws already.
Out of sheer instinct, Wang Sheng shifted backward in midair and swung the Dragon Sword vertically before him.
The wolf fiend's claws hadn't even touched the Dragon Sword yet when golden light surged from the side, blasting him away. Like a comet, he smashed through a mountain-sized planet fragment and was sent flying nearly a hundred li.
Even at that distance, Tan Lang was still within the barrier. His array seemed immeasurably vast.
Lishang spread out her tail as she slowly withdrew her left palm. She then brought her hands together and chanted incomprehensibly, as though she were praying.
A beam of light descended from the endless space, illuminating her. Afterward, brilliant golden radiance wrapped around her, and many mysterious patterns appeared on her long dress. Though her aura remained at the peak of the True Immortal Realm, Wang Sheng could clearly sense an overwhelming pressure coming from her.
Lishang had revealed the true might that she had inherited as Nuwa's direct descendant.
In the distance, the wolf fiend hovered in the air. Letting go of his fury, he calmed down completely and stared coldly at her.
Lishang snorted. "Hmph!"
With her tail swaying gently, she turned into a streak of golden light and shot toward Tan Lang. Meanwhile, coarse black fur sprouted all over Tan Lang as he transformed into a werewolf. He fully unleashed his cultivation, filling his Dao Rhythm with bloodlust and madness.
The wolf fiend howled as Lishang muttered, "Die!"
The two collided, the mere shock shaking and shattering most of the planet fragments within the array. Right after, they chased and clashed across a hundred li in the form of light streaks. Failing to secure a clear and swift victory, the two ended up locked in battle.
Wang Sheng had no time to watch them, though. Five auras had already locked onto him. The wolf fiend had evidently ordered the war slaves to kill him.
Gripping the Dragon Sword, he analyzed which of the five was the easiest to break and kill first. Unfortunately, he had just used Green Lotus Ultimate earlier. The alchemical pills had restored much of his immortal power, but it was still far from full. Moreover, though he had to deal with his opponents as quickly as possible, he still had to conserve enough strength to support Lishang if he wished to survive.
Clang!
The fabric of space itself shuddered as a sweep of cyan light blossomed from Wang Sheng's left. An arrow purely made out of immortal power flew toward him without the slightest warning. Wisps of cyan radiance coiled around the arrowhead, leaving a faint trail through space.
Though he defended himself in time, the attack was simply too fast. In barely a second, he had sensed the fabric of space tremble, his immortal perception had caught the arrow's presence, and the arrow had appeared beside him.
He swung the Dragon Sword in a short arc, slicing the arrow cleanly in two. Nevertheless, an invisible force slammed into his left ribs, making his armor flare up.
Wang Sheng was sent flying sideways. Soon, he crashed into a planet fragment several li away, creating a deep crater. He immediately leaped out, showing no sign of injury.
The Kang Star Deity's armor truly lived up to its name.
Still, the arrow was certainly quite strange.
Before Wang Sheng could analyze it, three of the five war slaves rushed him. Meanwhile, the archer stood on a planet fragment and drew the longbow once more.
I need to eliminate that archer first!
If Huai Jing were here, he would probably shout something along the lines of "Take out the enemy damage dealer first!"
Wang Sheng forced himself not to think about the war slaves' origins, which could make him hesitate when he swung his sword. All they were at that moment was his mortal enemies. Since they were already under the Celestial Wind Sect's control, their past no longer mattered.
Besides, there was no way to tell whether they were once a member or an enemy of the Heavenly Court. It was better to focus on the Celestial Wind Sect.
Wang Sheng gritted his teeth. Lightning crackled in his eyes as his four great sword intents worked together. Soon, faint arcs of electricity danced around him.
Right after, heavenly tribulation pierced space. A sweep of lightning shot toward the archer, and Wang Sheng appeared at its tip.
Dozens of li away, the war slave gripped his longbow. His expression was stiff, his gaze empty, yet immortal light surged along the bowstring, forming another cyan arrow.
Wang Sheng swiftly used Lightning Flash again. Just before he reappeared, the war slave let the arrow loose. There was no judgment or thought; it was a purely instinctive shot.
When Wang Sheng emerged from the lightning, the cyan arrow was already right in front of him and flying straight at his chest.
Boom!
His armor flared up once more as he was blasted away again. Even with its protection, his qi and blood still churned violently.
That war slave's Dao of Archery is terrifying.
Wang Sheng immediately considered his options. Having never fought an archer before, he found himself briefly unable to come up with a way to effectively close the distance.
A lean war slave in black armor was already charging at him head-on. Not only did the war slave have a vast and immense power, but his Dao Rhythm was also reminiscent of a surging flash flood.
He lifted two giant, dark-red axes high and swung them at Wang Sheng's sides.
Wang Sheng remembered the willow-fluff-like footwork technique that Li Tianyao had used. Subconsciously, he circulated his Dual-Polarity Sword Intent and drifted backward just ahead of the war slave's axes. His imitation was much simpler and more natural than Li Tianyao's technique.
After evading several waves of the opponent's offense, Wang Sheng seized a gap in the axe swings and suddenly counterattacked. Through the Dragon Sword, he unleashed his Thirty-Six Dragon-Slaying Slashes, sending two crescent-shaped arcs of light straight at the vital points of his opponent's neck.
Instead of evading, the war slave used the momentum of his axes to rotate himself. His two giant axes circled once and neatly cleaved apart the two strands of sword radiance. With unstoppable momentum, they then slashed at Wang Sheng's face again.
The war slave had the same numb expression as the others, yet his Dao Rhythm made Wang Sheng feel as though Mount Tai or a mountain-cleaving giant spirit was pressing down on him.
The two massive axes put Wang Sheng under the illusion that he should not face them head-on. However, he easily saw through it.
"Dragon Slayer!" he shouted, and the oppressive Dao Rhythm instantly shattered.
Wang Sheng gripped the Dragon Sword with both hands. With draconic roars echoing around him, he switched from complex sword techniques to simple ones and met the attack head-on.
A loud clang echoed from their unsophisticated clash.
Two immense forces surged through the Dragon Sword and nearly crushed Wang Sheng, but a Tai Chi diagram phantasm appeared under him. Though only three chi in diameter, it completely neutralized the two forces with a slight rotation.
The giant axes were knocked away, and the war slave tilted backward, making him frown. What appeared to be a contest of strength was actually a detailed application of Dual-Polarity Sword Intent.
Wang Sheng naturally didn't give his opponent a chance to catch his breath. While the other two shadowy figures were still some distance away, he closed in on his target.
He switched to a one-handed grip, yet the greatsword still felt weightless in his hand. He simultaneously reached for the war slave's armor with his left hand and flourished his sword, swinging it at his opponent's neck.
After a few simple exchanges, Wang Sheng could finally secure a small victory.
However, with his sword only three cun away from the war slave's neck, a cyan arrow appeared and struck him from the side again. He didn't even get to grab the war slave's armor.
A tremendous force surged out from Wang Sheng's immortal armor, which had spread the explosive release from a single point to a wider surface.
Feeling as if a fast-flying mountain had hit him, he was blasted away once more. He had missed the perfect opportunity to kill the axe-wielding war slave.
Wang Sheng quickly stabilized himself, turned around, and glared at his target. However, at that moment, the other two war slaves reached him.
One had disheveled hair, an indistinct look, and a longsword with a cyan blade. When he swung his weapon, his sword energy stretched hundreds of meters long.
The other combatant, an armored female immortal, lifted a jade flute horizontally to her lips and played it. Since sound couldn't travel through space, Wang Sheng couldn't hear any music, yet he suddenly felt as if he had sunk into a quagmire. A strange Dao Rhythm coiled around him, made him dizzy, and blurred his vision. The world even seemingly spun.
The Dragon Sword's spirit telepathically shouted, "Be careful, Sword Master! She's playing a devilish melody!"
Returning to his senses, he heard the Dragon Sword unleash waves of draconic roars, eliminating the sense of restraint he felt. Unfortunately, the delay was long enough for the sword energy to reach him. His spiritual perception warned him that it was far more destructive than the cyan arrows.
Meanwhile, the war slave who wielded two giant axes once again charged at him.
Wang Sheng immediately used Lightning Flash, crossing a thousand meters sideways through the space and temporarily freeing himself from the three war slaves' encirclement.
Right after, he quickly flew toward the empty part of the area. Heavenly tribulation began to gather around him as he locked most of his immortal perception onto the archer. The instant the archer's fingers on the longbow loosened, Wang Sheng used Lightning Flash again to evade the arrow.
When he burst out of the lightning, he immediately switched to Soaring Red Feathers. The Golden Crow spread its wings and sped toward an area filled with planet fragments and debris, momentarily losing the three shadowy figures.
He planned to circle from the side and deal with the archer first. After all, the archer's arrows would've already killed him had it not been for his armor and tribulation-tempered Dao Body.
Now that he was a True Immortal, Soaring Red Feathers made him faster than ever before. Still, he constantly took cover, changed directions, and zigzagged unpredictably.
For a time, the war slave failed to track Wang Sheng. He shot three arrows and missed all of them. Meanwhile, Wang Sheng rapidly closed in on the war slave's position.
These war slaves are really difficult to deal with. A longbow, a giant axe, a longsword, and a flute... Wait, that's only four. Where's the other one?
Scanning the area using his immortal perception, Wang Sheng noticed a shadowy figure sitting not far behind the archer. With his head lowered, he seemed to be chipping away at a piece of deadwood using a carving knife.
Is he waiting for the right time to attack, or is he using some strange artifact?
He mentally took note of the fifth war slave.
Wang Sheng calculated the distance between him and the three war slaves chasing him, then the time it would take for him to reach the archer with his Lightning Flash. He also planned when to combine his Heavenly Ziwei Sword Intent and Pure Yang Sword Intent into a technique that could kill his target.
The Golden Crow flew in. Wang Sheng then burst out from the flames and used Lightning Flash.
In response, the archer calmly put his bow on his back and raised his right arm to the side. Right in front of his palm, a long spear appeared out of thin air, which caught Wang Sheng slightly off guard.
The moment he gripped the spear tightly, his Dao Rhythm underwent drastic changes that made it incredibly sharp and unstoppable. Meanwhile, the war slave behind him just kept carving in silence. He didn't even raise his head.
