World's No. 1 Swordsman-Chapter 619: Chaos Breaks Out, Bu Yu Worries
With Meng Wuxue now soaked in blood, Wang Sheng simply stood in the air far too conspicuously.
Many of the immortals still hadn't recovered. Moreover, those at lower cultivation realms had failed to even keep up with the battle. All they saw was the sky filling up with snow. The next thing they knew, the ice and snow had melted away. Meng Wuxue lay in midair with his aura fading, while Wang Sheng remained standing proudly.
As everyone had expected, the outcome of the battle had a significant impact on both sides' morale. The atmosphere among the Celestial Wind Sect's army had clearly turned heavy and subdued.
In truth, the two factions weren't the only ones affected. Even Lishang, who had always been confident in him, and most other cultivators who had just met him never thought that he could win so easily.
Wang Sheng overpowered Meng Wuxue's Earth Dao of the Sword throughout the entire duel. It seemingly confirmed the North-River Sword Sect's long-held belief that Heavenly was the strongest of all the Dao of the Sword, followed by Earth, then Human. Yet the one who won the clash of techniques was Wang Sheng himself, not any specific sword intent of his.
While wondering how the enemy would react, Wang Sheng remained true to his plan; he intended to provoke and draw Long Aotian into a battle in space.
Once the dragon fiend was lured away, Lishang would be able to deal with the rest of the Celestial Wind Sect's immortals with ease. The Fengli Sect's victory at that point would already be eighty percent certain.
But Long Aotian, the cunning and calculating immortal he was, still managed to keep his composure.
"Your swordsmanship is certainly profound, Elder Pi. Bearing witness to it has taught us a lot," Long Aotian said as he glanced at the North-River Sword Sect's several Heavenly Immortals behind him.
His allies had grim expressions, yet none stepped forward.
Hmph! The North-River Sword Sect is nothing but mediocre and useless!
A difficult problem now lay before Long Aotian. Facing him now would leave his army with no one to handle Lishang. If he chose not to act, the situation would fall into a stalemate, and their morale would continue to decline. He looked again at the severely injured Meng Wuxue, causing anger to rise in his heart.
Wang Sheng advanced half a step forward. Considering he had already picked a fight, there was no way he would let this end here. He truly intended to follow Third Prince Nezha's example, who slew a dragon by tearing out its tendons first.
He took another step forward, pushing his intentions far beyond mere provocation.
With no room left to retreat, Long Aotian had no other choice but to come out and fight. However, before he could, a pillar of light descended in front of him, and a middle-aged man in a green robe slowly emerged from within it. Wang Sheng and the Fengli Sect's experts immediately felt a certain pressure.
The man had average looks, but his bearing set him apart from the mundane. His eyes were calm and friendly, yet it felt as though two immortal swords could be drawn from them at any moment.
Yaoyun telepathically warned Wang Sheng, "He's at the peak of the Heavenly Immortal Realm, half a step away from the Golden Immortal Realm. However, he seems to be injured. His aura is not as strong as the pressure he exudes."
Wang Sheng gripped Spiritless and met the man's gaze for a moment.
The man revealed a trace of lament, then cupped his hands at Wang Sheng. "The Dao has no end, and the sword has no limit. Your Heavenly Dao of the Sword and heavenly tribulation are certainly impressive.
"I, Wang Beifeng of the North-River Sword Sect, thank you for sparing my junior brother. To repay this debt, the members of our sect will only injure enemies in the upcoming war. We won't kill unless absolutely necessary."
The North-River Sword Sect's five Heavenly Immortals behind him immediately replied, "Understood."
Wang Sheng thought for a moment. He then told Yaoyun, "He must be Li Tianyao's master."
"We're no match for him right now," Yaoyun said. "His Dao of the Sword realm seems to be slightly higher than yours."
Wang Beifeng stepped forward, immensely narrowing the distance between him and Wang Sheng.
Golden light flared beside Wang Sheng. Lishang had come over from behind and stood at his side, vigilantly watching Wang Beifeng.
After watching Lishang a few times, Wang Beifeng approached Meng Wuxue, who was covered in blood. Sighing softly, he wrapped him in immortal power and fed him an alchemical pill. He then turned and brought Meng Wuxue back to the Celestial Wind Sect's group.
Wang Sheng could sense that the man was quite arrogant.
Using voice transmission, Wang Sheng told Lishang, "Vice Sect Master, you will likely have to deal with that man later. Since this is ultimately a battle between the Celestial Wind Sect and the Fengli Sect, you shouldn't risk your life against him. I myself only came forward to kill Long Aotian."
The battle intent in Lishang's eyes visibly subsided as she transmitted back, "I didn't expect you to fight with such determination today. Honestly, I was starting to think you've lost your mind over the Fengli Sect's sect master."
"Focus on delaying him. I'll go issue the challenge now. Long Aotian will certainly respond, and once he does, I'll draw him into space and kill him as quickly as possible."
"Do not push yourself too hard."
"Don't worry." Wang Sheng spun Spiritless. "With Yaoyun here, a mere dragon fiend is nothing to worry about."
Lishang frowned and was about to say more when Wang Sheng strode forward.
With a fierce gaze, he shouted, "Long Aotian!"
"Hmph!" Long Aotian stepped forward. Now that Wang Beifeng had come forward, he somehow no longer felt concerned. "Do you really think I cannot kill you? There is no room to fight properly here. Do you dare battle me in space?!"
Instead of responding, Wang Sheng simply turned and flew past the planet's atmosphere.
Long Aotian shouted, "I'll be back once I've killed that brat!"
He took to the skies with overwhelming momentum. After flying a hundred li, he threw back his head and roared, transforming into an enormous azure dragon. He then reached into space with one of his claws.
The Xinghai Sect's immortals tensed up. Lishang also frowned as she stared in the direction that Long Aotian had flown toward.
Meanwhile, the Fengli Sect felt quite "grateful" toward Wang Sheng. He had come to assist them, killed one of the enemy's top-tier experts, and then drew away its strongest combatant. Had they been unaware that he had a deep bond with his Daoist partner, they would have thought that he was doing all this out of infatuation with one of the Fengli Sect's immortal maidens.
Draconic roars and sword cries echoed as Long Aotian quickly shrank into a tiny point of light. The fabric of empty space itself trembled nonstop, and the Great Dao hidden behind it continued to hum and shake.
Long Aotian and Wang Sheng were already locked in a fierce battle.
Using voice transmission, Yu Xizi told Wang Beifeng, "Master, maybe the powerful being back then gave us a warning because of that sword cultivator?"
Wang Beifeng sighed softly. "Everyone, put a quick end to this."
The North-River Sword Sect's immortals behind him responded at once. An elder of the Celestial Wind Sect lifted a banner and threw it forward.
The banner grew as it caught the wind, eventually becoming a hundred zhang long and wide. It transformed into the Celestial Wind Sect's banner and descended toward the planet.
Tens of thousands of celestial soldiers let out a thunderous shout. They then broke into a charge, turning into countless streaks of light.
Wang Beifeng swept his left hand across the space before him, summoning a sheathed treasured sword. He grasped the scabbard with his right hand, drew it with ease, and then looked at Lishang.
Lishang also drew a serpent-hilted sword. She held firm against the pressure that Wang Beifeng now released.
The two strongest combatants on the battlefield stepped forward and vanished almost simultaneously. In the next instant, they reappeared hundreds of li away.
The two charged, collided, and flashed backward. Right after, they pushed forward again. The clash between their overwhelming immortal powers repeatedly unleashed shockwaves as they flickered farther and farther from the planet.
There was no other choice. If they fought in the middle of the fray, the aftershocks alone would cause devastating casualties to both sides.
Failing to control the resulting shockwaves of a clash between equally powerful fighters was no different from killing their own subordinates.
Now that the four top experts had paired off and fought, the remaining dozen or so Heavenly Immortals started tearing into each other as well. No one knew who struck first, but they were already in a furious brawl before the immortal armies even reached each other.
Waves of immortal light surged above the Fengli Sect's planet, and killing intent filled its sky. Over ten Heavenly Immortal Realm pressures also bore down wildly, deeply shaking the unaffiliated practitioners on the planet. Moreover, due to their shallow cultivation, the younger disciples of the Fengli Sect couldn't help but be afraid.
The celestial body's primal qi rushed toward the depths of the sky. Though it should've been a bright day, the sunlight coming from above the Fengli Sect had grown exceedingly dim.
Some unaffiliated practitioners looked up, finding what seemed like more than ten colossal divine spirits locked in brutal combat across the heavens.
Soon, countless streaks of light flew in from space and tore through layers of immortal light. The dark clouds also stirred overhead, transforming into even more beams of light and attacking the invading forces head-on.
The celestial sects' armies finally clashed, marking the beginning of the war!
In the top floor of the treasure pavilion at the Fengli Sect's main peak, the sect master sat naked in a pool of water. Layers of arrays and the pavilion's walls separated her from the fight.
Slowly opening her eyes, she gazed at the battle high above her, yet she showed no reaction. A trace of coldness simply appeared in her eyes before she closed them again.
Seemingly preparing for something, she still had no intention of taking matters into her own hands.

Rear courtyard of Earth's cultivators, Xinghai City.
A faint, drifting melody from a flute echoed through the area. The surrounding array barriers stopped its notes from getting out.
The music soon became slightly disordered. Seated in the pavilion, the ever-graceful Mu Wanxuan stopped playing and gazed at the small pond, her bamboo flute still in her hands.
She thought of the one she loved, wondering if he was safe.
Clashes between celestial sects were an everyday occurrence in the endless space. Unfortunately, now that her junior brother had been caught in one, all she could do was wait in the shadows for news.
Huai Jing pushed open a nearby window. As he yawned, he happened to notice Mu Wanxuan's dim expression. He scratched his head as hesitation flickered in his eyes.
Mu Wanxuan usually came across as gentle and simple-minded. She rarely wore such an expression.
"Bu Yu," Huai Jing called, "are you worried about Fei Yu?"
"Mm," Mu Wanxuan replied. With a forced smile, she turned toward the arhat and bowed slightly. She then sat down to prepare tea.
Huai Jing jumped out through the window and reached the pavilion in two strides. He then intoned Buddha's name, sat across from her at the stone table, and poured himself a cup of herbal tea.
After drinking it in one go, he remarked, "Relax. A bit of wind and waves will not capsize a ship as great as Fei Yu."
Mu Wanxuan softly said, "Drink tea."
She then dropped two ice cubes into her own cup.
They had considered many things before coming here. Unfortunately, they still forgot to bring Mu Wanxuan's favorite: carbonated drinks.
Huai Jing asked, "Bu Yu, do you want to grow stronger?"
Mu Wanxuan stopped and frowned at him. "What do[1]?"
Huai Jing smiled. "I know of a way to make you more powerful. However, since it is rather troublesome, just consider it as a suggestion. As you know, I have a golden body."
Mu Wanxuan nodded lightly.
"In your previous life, you were also a true deity of the Heavenly Court. As far as I know, you were originally..."
"What?"
"A primordial spiritual root, the Eastern Heaven's divine tree. But because the divine tree was too powerful, the primordial divine spirit it nurtured could never take form. Your revered master, Emperor Qinghua, had no choice but to separate you from the tree and grant you a human body so that you could begin cultivation anew."
Huai Jing paused, then smiled faintly.
"It wouldn't actually be difficult for you to become stronger. You only have to find that divine tree."
Mu Wanxuan froze in her seat and found herself lost in thought for quite some time.
1. "What can I do?" She was feeling helpless. ☜
