He read the EXP bar carefully. Level 220 to 221 required 14,800,000,000. Fourteen point eight billion. The previous threshold had been different. He checked the pattern by looking at the 219 to 220 requirement in the panel’s history display.

The 219 to 220 threshold had been 11,200,000,000. The 220 to 221 threshold was 14,800,000,000. The increase between those two adjacent thresholds was 3,600,000,000. The increase between 218 to 219 and 219 to 220 had been 2,100,000,000. The acceleration of the cost curve was not linear. It was steepening faster between each threshold than the previous steepening.

He thought about what that meant at level 225. At level 230. At 240. The system’ s exponential cost function at the highest levels was not designed to be overcome through volume hunting. At some point, the threshold between levels would exceed what any reasonable kill count in a single session could produce, even at 10,000x amplification.

The system doesn’t want me to go further, he thought. But I will!

He looked at the 14,800,000,000 number for a moment.

Then he looked at the Celestial Jade count in the storage token. The Cluster Guardian drops. The Nine Yin Demon Guild’s collection. The ambient jade accumulation from clearing runs that had been depositing jades through the amplified drop system since the event began.

The collection phase was still ahead of him. Long Tianyu was somewhere in this expanse at level 189. There were six more guardian slots in the halo. There were hunters across the ten thousand islands who had been collecting jades for the duration of the event who had not yet met him.

Level 220 was not the ceiling.

But the system was communicating clearly that the path upward from here required something different from what had produced levels 193 through 220.

He looked at the Greater Qilin.

"The threshold cost is increasing faster than the kill volume can sustain," he said. "At 230 it will be worse. At 240 it will be worse still."

The qilin looked at him with its evolved steady awareness.

"Which means the jade collection and the guardian fills need to happen now," he said. "Not because the leveling is finished. Because the next stage of what this expanse has to offer is through those paths, not through continued grinding in the mid-tier cluster zones."

He closed the panel.

Level 220. Strength 6,348. Constitution 5,964. The 10,000x amplification active and applied to everything going forward. Six guardian slots empty. The halo in his inventory waiting for targets that matched the standard Long Tianyu had established as the reference for what an immortal guardian at this tier could look like.

He stood on the cluster island and looked at the expanse ahead.

The mid-tier grinding had taken him where it could take him. Now the expanse needed to be approached differently.

He mounted the Greater Qilin.

"Find the thunder dragon," he said.

The qilin oriented itself.
